Journey Through Palestine - Travel Documentary

  • Palestine means a lot of different things to many people, and may not be the most obvious travel destination. It is often associated with conflict and political unrest, overlooking the fact that it’s also a beautiful and fascinating region, with a vibrant culture, incredible historic landmarks, spectacular natural scenery, inspiring religious sites, tasty food, and friendly, welcoming people.
On this journey, I’m traveling through the Holy Land, a region important to the three main monotheistic religions, and known today as Israel and Palestine.
In this first episode, I’m exploring the West Bank, the largest and most accessible part of Palestine. From stunning natural scenery to intriguing historic sites. From the busy streets of Ramallah to the narrow alleyways of Nablus’ old city. From religious landmarks in Hebron and Bethlehem to the ancient ruins of Jericho. Along the way, I meet some of the people that call this land home, and sample the local cuisine.
I’ll do so from a traveler’s perspective, focusing on the positive stories and things to do. But here and there I also mention the conflict between Israel and Palestine, since it has impacted the lives of many people in the region. For those interested in the politics and modern history of the region, however, I recommend to read, watch, and listen to as many different sources as you can.
This is my first long trip after the pandemic started, and I’m grateful for the chance to travel again. It’s also my second visit to the region. While much of the footage is from the end of 2021 (including the ‘vlog style’ parts), I’ll also use some background material from 5 years earlier.

Here’s a brief overview of the content in this video:
We start this journey in Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus Christ, with its impressive Church of the Nativity at its core. After visiting the church, I explore the streets around it, meeting people and eating food in the bustling bazaar. There are many other places worth your time in and around Bethlehem, including the Milk Grotto, an olive oil factory (press), Shepherd’s Fields, and the Mar Saba monastery, surrounded by arid mountains.
Hebron is the next stop, a city in the South of Palestine, and (among other things) famous for its glassblowing factories, and also the Tomb of the Patriarch, or Ibrahimi Mosque. The streets around this place are divided between the local Palestinian community and Israeli settlers. As a tourist, you can visit both areas. At the end of the day, my guide Salwa takes me to a traditional Palestinian restaurant, where we eat some delicious food.
We continue this trip in Jericho, regarded as the oldest city in the world. Located next to the Dead Sea, it’s also one of the lowest cities on our planet, and can get very hot in Summer. Other sights to visit around Jericho include the Dead Sea, Nabi Musa, Qasr-al-Yahud, and St George’s Monastery, built into a cliff in Wadi Qelt.
Getting lost in the narrow alleys of Nablus’ old city was among my favorite things to do. There’s a surprise waiting for you around every corner, and perhaps the best one was the Al Aqsa kunafeh store, which is said to make the best version of this Palestinian dessert, which is popular around the Middle East.
We finish this journey in Ramallah, a young and dynamic city, attracting people from around the region to find work and get educated. It’s a commercial hub with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, and provides a different perspective on this part of Palestine.

Right, but Palestinians are still being killed in the West Bank too. If they get the chance, Israel will focus on them next after they're done with Gaza...I pray it all stops soon and justice is served.

Zahir Muhsein was a Palestinian leader of the pro-Syria As-Sa'iqa Ba'athist faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization between 1971 and 1979.
In an interview with Trouw Magazine, 31. March 1977 he stated....."The Palestinian people do not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct "Palestinian people" to oppose Zionism. Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity exists only for tactical reasons. The establishment of a Palestinian state is a new tool to continue the fight against Israel and for Arab unity.
Hamas Minister of the Interior and of National Security Fathi Hammad, aired by Al-Hekma TV on March 23, 2012. Stated.....
.....we all have Arab roots, and every Palestinian, in Gaza and throughout Palestine, can prove his Arab roots - whether from Saudi Arabia, from Yemen, or anywhere. We have blood ties. Personally, half my family is Egyptian. We are all like that. More than 30 families in the Gaza Strip are called Al-Masri ["Egyptian"]. Brothers, half of the Palestinians are Egyptians and the other half are Saudis. Who are the Palestinians? We have many families called Al-Masri, whose roots are Egyptian. Egyptian! They may be from Alexandria, from Cairo, from Dumietta, from the North, from Aswan, from Upper Egypt. We are Egyptians. We are Arabs.
Salma Fayumi, a resident of Kafr Qasim (Palestin/Israel), demonstrated her cooking prowess on the show "Master Chef." Fayumi proudly showed off her Kushari dish that she prepared, "Egyptian cuisine made of rice and lentil." "My family came from Egypt, from Faiyum, and I am Salma Fayumi from Faiyum," the cook from Kafr Qasim said.
If Palestine were an Arab state, at any point in recorded history, why was there no mention of them? Because there never was an Arab Palestinian nation, nor any nation called Palestine, ever.

Palestine (in English: "Palestine") - an ancient foreign name for the Land of Israel derived from Philistia, the official name of the country during the British Mandate period.
Palestinians - Arabs who were residents of Mandatory Land of Israel (Palestine-AI; in Arabic: Palestine) and their descendants

To all my Muslim brothers, who claim to love and respect the word of God, there are many of you who oppose and do not recognize the right of the Israelites to the Holy Land.
Many of you claim that the Jewish children of Israel do not belong here, and they have no right to return to the Holy Land.
How do you say such a thing when the prophet himself says in the Quran at least 4 times .
that this land was given to the Israelites.
On the other hand, the Quran does not say even once that the Holy Land was given to the Arabs or Bnei Ismail.
So anyone who truly believes in the prophet and the word of God, must accept and acknowledge this right.
Especially when the prophet also says that the Israelites will return to their land.
      ‐------------‐----------------------------------------------------
      Surah 5
21 “O my people, enter the Holy Land which God has assigned for you, and do not turn back, lest you return as losers.”
      Surah 7
137 And We made the oppressed people inherit the eastern and western parts of the land, which We had blessed. Thus the fair promise of your Lord to the Children of Israel was fulfilled, because of their endurance. And We destroyed what Pharaoh and his people had built, and what they had harvested.
      Surah 10
93 And We settled the Children of Israel in a position of honor, and provided them with good things. They did not differ until knowledge came to them. Your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection regarding their differences.
94 If you are in doubt about what We revealed to you, ask those who read the Scripture before you. The truth has come to you from your Lord, so do not be of those who doubt.
95 And do not be of those who deny God’s revelations, lest you become one of the losers.
      Surah 17
104 After him, We said to the Children of Israel, “Inhabit the land, and when the promise of the Hereafter arrives, We will bring you all together.”
105 With the truth We sent it down, and with the truth it descended. We sent you only as a bearer of good news and a warner.
So , tell me my Muslims brothers, if you really respect your Quran that you call him words of Allah.
How can you deny the Allah words.
If Allah said that this land is promised to Israel.
      You must respect that.
You can not be good Muslims if you don't fulfill the hole Quran.
Today many Muslims around the world saying that we Benei Israel, never been in the Holy Land, and we have to get out of it.
So, just if you think so, you must know that you don't real Muslim.
You can not pray to Allah, and don’t accept his words.

It is wonderful to see the streets and Market Places so full of colours, chatter and of life with a steady energy that is both calm and vibrate. These are the place's that Palestinian's have built and rebuilt after so many bombardments despite having to live under occupation with at times little to no resources they are a Country with strong resilient and determined people who work together through every violent attack so beautifully and have the courage of great warriors. Even now As Gaza is going through a Genocide and each day more and more pepole in the West Bank are murdered by the occupiers the work tirelessly to help each other. They are people that history should always remember. my only wish for this year is for all Palestinians to live in freedom and in peace may their Nation be restored as it once was.

There has never been a state called Palestine, Palestine was the name of a region! When the Romans conquered Israel and expelled most of the Jews, they decided to change the name of Israel to Palestine to destroy any connection to Judaism and changed the name of Jerusalem for a time to Cathelina. They named Israel Palestine in honor of the Philistines, who were from Europe and came to try to conquer Israel and lost. That happened 600 years before the religion of Islam was born. The name Palestine has always been a name identified with the Jewish people. You can see old maps, coins, place names registered in Palestine and nearby registered in Hebrew Eretz Israel. Israel is mentioned in Roman writings, ancient Greek books, ancient English literature, and more. Always in his name like Israel and Palestine. Today's Palestinians are descendants of 7th century Muslim conquerors combined with descendants of immigrants from Arab countries who arrived during Ottoman rule. The Arab population in the area adopted the Palestinian identity in 1964! And the State of Palestine was officially declared a state in 1988! They are the conquerors not Jewish. Jewish people are indigenous to this land, Israel is Jewish homeland

Scrape the surface anywhere in the Golan, Judea, Samaria , ANYWHERE in present day Israel and beyond and the archaeologic evidence is astounding. Then of course there is the historical facts abut the Jews and where they come from.
The Jewish people had been scattered since the babylonian period. Then came the Greeks then the Romans (who rented JUDEA to "syria palestina" as an insult to the Jews. Why you may ask? Because the Philistines were the biggest enemy of the Jews and the Romans knew that history.

If we look at real history its also clear the Palestinians were never the real owner of the land it was always one of the empires that controlled the area. And regarding living peacefully i just remind you that not the jews attacked the arabs in 1948 the jews wanted to live in peace together on this land but they were answered by war. Its not because of the jews that there is no peace on this land.

In 1974, the late Syrian President Hafez Assad said: It would be appropriate to tell the responsible Israeli authorities that we see Palestine not only as an integral part of the Arab nation, but as a part of Southern Syria. He repeated himself at a conference in Amman in 1987, "A country called 'Palestine' has never existed." "The emergence of the national Palestinian personality serves as a response to Israel's claim that Palestine is Jewish," King Hussein of Jordan said. Still, the prize goes to Arafat, who in 1970 candidly told reporter Arianna Palazzi: "The question of borders does not concern us ... From an Arab point of view, we should not talk about borders.
