Due to it's location, the climate is much warmer than the rest of the country in winter and it is right next to the Sierra Maestra mountain range - Caveat: the hotels there do require some extensive modernization (more so than the other ones we have been to in other parts of the country)

We visited Puerto Vallarta, Querétaro, San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato on our trip. We were in Mexico for 3 weeks total and enjoyed all of these locations. You forgot to mention that people all try to overcharge you, short change you and there is poop and piss smell everywhere, bad service, slow service, no shopping, no theaters, on and on and on.... Go elsewhere, your money will be better spent.
