This is completely true. Test 15 players should not play the 2nd leg. But BCCI rules will ban the Indian players itself. For BCCI, IPL is more than WTC. I hope all the WTC player teams are knocked out and they focus on the WTC like the T20 WC. Many people questioned why IPL final players are not in XI but world cup was the answer. I hope the same returns for WTC.

Here's my take.
I think Ashwin said once, "I can with bowlers" as he constructed his all time XI. One factor, is how many years before the next mega auction is -- if its 5 years, I might go and build a squad for the future. Also, yes, this is a business but also we are looking at enhancing Indian cricketers for the bigger stage in international cricket. Are there special Indian cricketers with whom I can build a brand with? Ex. Gautam Gambhir for KKR.
KKR seems to be a franchise that places emphasis on team unity (ref: GG take on Ryan). I also agree with Keshav Maharaj, teams needs good characters and leaders. You can afford to have 1 or 2 selfish players but they cannot disrupt team dynamics.
I am surprised that Mitchell Starc was not considered -- he is a handy lower order batsman as well. He is getting old. I am sure he will be motivated to prolong his IPL career and if makes a commitment to improve his batting, I'll snap him up
So my retention list, Mitchell Starc, Venkatesh Iyer (if has recovered well from his injury and can bowl well), Varun Chakravarti, Sunil Narine, Andre Russel (if the last 2 give a commitment to play for the next 2 years). I know giving up Shreyas Iyer and Rinku Singh is anathema, but I think I have a good core in bowling and 4 of them can bat. VC might need to take a leaf from Ashwin to improve his batting skills (can he and is he willing to do that?).
If Pooran goes into auction which LSG might do, KKR could go for Pooran as a finisher?
I would pick one uncapped Indian. Sometimes, building a relationship for the future ain't a bad thing. CSK, KKR and MI place a huge value on relationship with players (money does not seem to be an issue). We have not addressed explicitly in retentions.
