    That's what is so amazing about Janis is her style and versatility. Her range was vast yet so distinctive. Her vocals are just so unusual yet mesmerizing. She had a mezzo- soprano range of voice. I'm thrilled you find her fascinating. I've listened to her since 1971.

    Good reaction. Yes, she's best served Live. The mark of a true artist.

    I doubt George Gershwin could ever have imagined his great song being performed like this, but I hope he would have been receptive to what I think is the best version of his classic. Catfish Row could be a mean place, and Janis makes it clear just how mean and gritty. Amazing!

    Her version is widely considered to be the definitive version of the song.

    Janice is my all-time favorite female performer Just that unique raspiness she has is out of this world but I’d recommend checking out “Maybe” and a fun song she performs with Tom Jones on his show called “Raise your hands” and she has so so many more songs huge rabbit hole!!

    Wow! I agree, - live performances are a good place to start, especially with magnetic personalities like Janis. I was lucky to meet her after a concert in about '67 in Cleveland. She was very hot and had just begun headlining concerts. We showed her a day-glo poster with her name and picture in fluorescent green - she was thrilled; she hadn't seen it before and asked if she could keep it. She just loved having fans near her.

    If memory serves, this was on W. German TV, and the crowd would not have known her at all... still you heard their response, LOVED IT like any sentient human would. Janis, Joe Cocker and Robert Plant: the three Blues Rockers at the top of the food chain since 1967 for me (well, Plant a bit later, 1969)... and at 50- odd years later I still adore her and her enduring soul. Great job, you. Peace from Canada.

    Hi, it's Susana, new sub here from NSW Australia. Firstly, my condolences regarding your Dad. I know how heartbreaking that is, but I was 54 when mine passed. You're very young to loose your Dad.
    I found your Janis reactions and anyone whom is a fan is my kind of people. I don't remember her in the 60s because I was a little kid. It's so sad she died at only 27. Along with Jimmi Hendrix and Jim Morrison from The Doors(plus others), belong to what's known as the "27" club.
    I recommend, Move over, Cry Baby and Me and Bobby McGee by Janis.
    I also feel you need to react to O
    my favourite group and the best rock group ever(in my opinion), the mighty Led Zeppelin. If you have, my apologies. Led Zeppelin don't just play rock as in classic rock, also blues rock, folk, and funky styles.
    Check out their most well known songs, Whole lotta love, Rock and Roll, Immigrant song and Since I've been loving you. Their live at MSG 1973 performances are the most popular. I know you'll get addicted like I did 40 years ago. Anyway, all the best. You seem very sweet and appreciate good music

    Summertime was written in 1934 by George Gershwin for the opera Porgy and Bess (which you might read up on and listen to someday). There are thousands and thousands of versions to this song.

    • @robinwells3
      @robinwells3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you get into it, there’s a great Porgy and Bess movie with Sydney Poitier, Dorothy Dandridge, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Pearl Bailey. I thunk there’s a more recent one as well.
      And you might(?) also like Miles Davis’ Summertime.

    • @J.Fro90
      @J.Fro90  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice, I never saw Porgy & Bess but it's been on my to watch list just out of my love of movies of the time & era, I've heard lots of covers of the song, but I know it's a whole lot more.
