why am i watching this at night? I think my screams woke my parents up
LOL 🤣🤣
i CACKLED at "it's the soft-close drawer you guys!!!!!"
Never have I seen a more hilarious yet TOTALLY APT description
Ahahaha so glad we could make you laugh 😂😂
We want a part 2 !!!!!
✌🏻✨✌🏻✨
I sent your video to Jessica Xuan (I shot pictures of her years ago at Dutch National and we keep in touch, I was SOOO happy to see her in this video) she loved it, she said you're really sweet girls and that it made her day ^-^
Aw, thanks for sharing the video! That’s so cool. Glad she got to see it :)
Where is y favorite Giselle pas de deux part two?
Marianela Núñez and Carlos Acosta's performance in Don Quixote is my all-time favorite. They portray the characters with such authenticity and skill. Marianela's gestures, especially when she turns back and blows a kiss, are simple yet so playful and fun. No one else captures the essence of Kitri for me quite like she does.
SAME lover her as kitri, it was how i fell in love with ballet
I just wanted to inform you girls of how much I appreciate this channel! There are hardly any ballet channels on TH-cam and yours is informational and fun that it’s welcoming to every dancer and every non-dancer. I’ll admit : the first time I saw your videos I was like, “Wow! They are so young and know so much about ballet! But, how many ballet topics are there before you run out?” And let me say again, “Wow!” Y’all come up with the most unique, beautiful, and EXQUISITE(😉) ideas and topics!!!
Thank you for all that you do to let others know the baeuty and challenge of ballet ❤
Thank you so much for the kind comment. This made our day! ❤️
Diana Vishneva's Carmen was my addicting ballet moment. So much character, it was like she wasn't even dancing, just moving like that naturally.
Definitely, so much character!
Yes!!! Mine too. I wasn't dancing yet, and her Carmen was one of the first ballets I was floored by. The first dancer I became enamoured with, too.
One of my favs in recent times is Steven McRae as the Mad Hatter in the tea scene; he is absolutely incredible, and his artistry comes through so much in that character!
Also, Frankie Hayward as Juliet, the kiss scene in the balcony pdd gives me butterflies every single time!!
Random thought: it would be fun to have a video of you guys reviewing ballet scenes in movies (whenever I see Oberon I can never not think of The Rock in The Game Plan 😂)
Omg yess the mad hatter is amazing!! Steven owns that role ✨✨ thanks for watchinggg 😆😆✨✨
Yes, especially Stephen McRae’s exit flourish on the teapot scene…*swoon*!
Marianela’s lame duck diagonal in Odette’s variation is my favorite thing in the whole world. 🤯 There’s also Claire Calvert’s INSANE pirouette when she takes her leg a la second with a crazy balance during a rehearsal 😱
omg what video of claire??
I feel like the Jemima Puddleduck was the ballet version of a rick roll
Ulyana lopatkina Dying swan, her arms are so amazing, mesmerizing and full of feelings. Also her Raymonda the clapping variation is amazing. Legend Mikhail Barishnikov Basilio with the cups, so much fun, so perfect with the music.
RAYMONDA CLAPPING VARIATION MY BELOVED you're so right. that is my FAVORITE of the raymonda variations
Natalia Osipova does the imposssible! I have so many *moments* from her performances. It's not just her "Giselle," but her Kitri, her Juliet - everything! Big shout out ladies for the Ballet Nerd merch 🥰! I adore my stuff! THANK YOU!
Part 2, please, please, please!
Glad you enjoyed this! 😆😆✨✨
I also have made it my mission to see how many times Jordan and Eden say the word "exquisite".
A never-ending mission, truly 😅😅
@@balletreign I honestly lost count at this point lol
this sounds like a fun drinking game
@@laurenlolly omg lol 😂😂😂
I am looking into the future, and I see Cloe Misseldine as one of the coming big stars. That girl has got it!
my addiction is osipova/vasiliev in the flames of paris pdd. absolute fire!
That one always leaves us breathless 🫶🏻🫶🏻
This was great! Do a Part two. Also, maybe do a look sometimes at secondary characters. I loved all the usual suspects in this, but especially appreciated Ethan Steifel and Jessica Xuan.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed! We will def be doing a part 2 ✌🏻✌🏻
Part 2 required!!! Can't believe I didn't see Jemima Puddleduck coming lol.
we got you lollll 😆😆🦆 thanks for watching, stay tuned for part 2!
I have a faint memory of seeing a ballet video of Beatrix Potter characters, but I can't remember where it was from
Steven McRae as the Mad Hatter!!!.....chef kisses.❤🔥🤌
I personally like Kimin kim in Corsaire it's like incredible how high he can jump and how neat he gets in the ground. Also, Marianela Nuñez's gamzati and Tamara rojo nikiya
All FABULOUS choices!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you for discussing Yuan Yuan Tan. She was one of the greatest ballerinas of the last 25 years and, as famous as she is in China, I feel as if she didn't get nearly enough appreciation in the US or Europe. Her and Damien Smith were magic together.
She’s definitely over her prime now
Yes! JESSICA XUAN from Het Nationale Ballet Amsterdam!!!!! Love her!
Thank you for this! The clip of Marianela could make you cry - she absolutely embodies the legato phrasing of the music, and her balance (which in lesser feet could look like trickery) is the perfect interpretation of Giselle's ethereal being as a spirit. I really felt like she was continuing the line of the first great ballerinas of the Victorian age, who may well have had stage engineering to get the same effect (thinking the use of actual wire flies to get that weightlessness that was used back then). I love Marianela; she never overdoes it, she's always perfectly placed, and you know she isn't acting, she IS Giselle. I'll shut up now and enjoy the rest of the obsession :) PS one of my favourites on YT is a very old video of Maya Plisetskaya in the Raymonda pas de deux; it's my own obsessive moment.
Aww thanks so much for watching! We appreciate u sharing your thoughts and personal favorite ballet moment 👏🏻👏🏻✨✨
Marianela is BY FAR my favorite Kitri as well. She just embodies that fire and spirit so well...there might be dancers with higher jumps etc. but nobody shows that kind of joy...it is truly enticing.
@@Simplenotionyes,marianela is the best Kitri! and her Gamzatti like a fire
Part 2 please! This was amazing. I have nothing else to say.
So happy you liked the video! Stay tuned for part 2 ✌🏻✌🏻
I would love to see a ballet appreciation video on “After the Rain” please ❤
Loooved thoose moments, guys!!My personal favourite is Svetlana Zakharova in Pharaoh s Daughter! Her musicality is (like you girls would say) exquisite! I’ve watched many other amazing ballerinas dancing the same variarion.. but there’s no one like Svetlana.. ❤❤❤
Svetlana is always beautiful ✨✨ thanks for sharing your fav ballet moment! 😆😆
For me, it's Marianela Núñez in the Kitri variation. The way she stomps on pointe from below, the playful little mouth gesture at the little frappé, the raised eyebrow when she turns around and blows a kiss, and ending with that strong, sustained balance and triumphant smile before exiting. I watch it on repeat and never get tired of it.
For me it’s Margot Fonteyn’s Odile… the choreography is so unique. I still remember saying “The menenge is in the MIDDLE?!? She closes with Italian fuattes??” 😂
Natalia Osipova is absolutely captivating in every role she dances, I still see her as the “definitive Giselle”
Mine is Nureyev's 1962 Le Corsaire. I just can't take my eyes off him. Also Alessandra Ferri's Romeo and Juliet balcony scene with Eagling or Corella. Just mesmerizing. I could watch and replay Osipova and Baryshnikov all day long!
We demand part 3 already!
Alice in Wonderland, queen of hearts pas de… cinq (??). Solo? I’m not sure what to call it. It’s the rose adagio… parody? But I ADORE it 💕💕
Hello! Not sure if you’re gonna read this but you guys are such an inspiration to me, I’m 13 and starting ballet. I feel like I might be a little to late and I can’t really find a good place to train but I’m gonna try my best because my dream is to dance professionally with Boston ballet! Just wanted to say thank you guys so much for being big inspirations and helping me with your ballet videos❤
ALSO Steven McRae's entrechat six sequence in Giselle is amazing 👏
I see this as the start of a long-running series. Don't think you'll ever run out of material hehe
Part 2!!! Part 2!!!! ❤❤❤
Stay tunedddd 🎉🎉
the way i KNEW it was gonna be puddle duck
I feel so lucky that I actually got to see Jessica Xuan perform this variation in Raymonda a couple of months ago! She is one of my favorite dancers from Dutch National Ballet and I'm so happy that I get to go very often!
The operative word for this session: Exquisite!!!
✨*exquisite*✨
Ryoichi Hirano's an incredible actor. Have you seen him as Leontes in The Winter's Tale?
He’s ✨incredible✨
As a kid I had the novel about Galina Ulanovova's life so I looked up her performances that were recorded and her Giselle is what really made me fall in love with ballet. I've seen that full version dozens of times, it's just magical.
started with natalia??? are u fr?? FAN GIRLING HERE SOO BAD!! 😍😍😍
I read the title of this video and just knew Osipova's Giselle Act 1 variation would be included. That specific recording of hers is the reason I started to get into ballet again! Legitimately, could not stop replaying it for over a year since first chancing upon it. Such an outstanding dancer technically, with her amazing acting that truly sets her apart for me. A full package, me thinks! ❤
My toddler and I watch your videos during lunch. She was wiggling around and saying "dance, dance, dance!" during most of the video, and then at the end, for the bonus clip, she just started saying "DUCK!"
AWWW 😭😭 so much love to our baby ballet nerd 🫰🏻🫰🏻✨✨
@@balletreign She's just getting into Beatrix Potter, too, so when I told her the duck was Jemima Puddleduck, she got even more excited. :D
my ballet nerd "roman empire" has to be marianela's 32 fouettes from that ONE recording of liam scarlett's swan lake (2018). the way she doesn't travel a single INCH...her incomparable strength, the smile at the end...so so good
Love all these selections and i'll put in a vote for Marianela Nunez's Gamzatti... particularly her temple variation, that pirouette that she floats out of with such control. (I believe it's the same performance as Tamara Rojo's *exquisite* roll down from pointe in Nikiya's death!) th-cam.com/video/Y0toq-CtFLk/w-d-xo.html around 2:08
Also Lopatkina's Swan Lake pdd when she comes out of the first pirouette and her arms and leg develop so exquisitely into the pose! We always talk about developpé of the legs but watching that made me realize we need the same quality of developpé in the arms! th-cam.com/video/0SKgGF4v8_c/w-d-xo.html around 2:05
the kitri variation by marianela uffff, I had a pic of that one as wallpaper for months
I'm so glad Don Q was mentioned!
And the bonus clip is 💯😄
My most watched ballet clips are Don Q Kitri's Variation specifically Nunez.
the monus has my heart
Loved this video! My personal favorite is Carla Fracci as the dying swan ❤
Jemina Puddle duck I caaant 🤣🤣🤣
Omg love😍 just to add another to the list is Beckanne Sisk former ballet west and current Houston ballet principal in Giselle. She was able to roll all they way up to pointe from flat arabesque, please watch it, it’s absolute perfection😭😭😭
hirano definitely woke something up in me
yes we all want a part 2
Coming TOMORROW 😆😆th-cam.com/video/HMCFWvQqlv8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qEJufLfC7lUvU61t&list=UULFgft2wXT8rk2J4d9rbQ1hiQ
This here fangirl applauds your selection! I can't fault you because I've sighed and pressed the rewind button on the ones you have shown so many times myself - especially the Don Q production with Osipova/Vasiliev, the Don Q production with Hirano Ryoichi by the ever more wonderful Carlos Acosta, the Giselle 'moments' ... with Marianela - truly a queen - and Natalia Osipova.
It's these small moments which make out the character and move one even when one doesn't notice them at first.
Btw - I'm giving my inner ballet nerd full rein at the moment, looking and watching different danseurs in 'Spectre de La Rose' ... can't not make up my mind as of yet which one is my top performance ...
I love your videos!!! You're the TwoSet Violin of Ballet ❤
Thank you so much and please keep up the great work 🎉
Thank you so much! 😆😆❤️❤️
I loved this format!!! We need a part 2 🥹. Could you pls spotlight Lopatkinas dying swan, that moment where she basically turned into a real swan (u already showed it in your intro)
MORE PLEASE! Thank you.
AAAAAAAAAAAA, we need part two (actually half of your videos need part two :')
Part 2 pleeeeeaaaase❤
Thank you for those *exquisite* moments !
Mine are Iana Salenko arms during the Coda of Tchaikovski variation and Marianela Nunes balance during odette variation !
Love your channel, thank you, and yes, yes, yes to Part 2. But just wanted to add Reece Clarke (Royal Ballet) as Espada. He was superb - part Gaston, part Superman, totally gorgeous!
Couldn't agree more. Great post.
Thank you so much! Bravo/brava to all the dancers ✨👏🏻
Great channel ladies! For me, one of my favourites is Irek Mukhamedov about 40 mins into Spartacus in the last scene of the first act with the Bolshoi Ballet. Irek does six incredibly high jetes and in each one switches legs mid air. Wow moment.
lol when she smashed the like button
Yay!! Also, the clog dance and the ribbon dance in La Fille Mal Garde. This theme could go on for a while ....
All of LFMG has our hearts ❤️❤️
Saved the best until last! 😄 I loved this - please do a Part 2. I also love watching Zenaida Yanowski and Marianela Nunez as Odile - the characterization by both of them is fabulous, and my "addictive moment" is Nunez's final arm flick at the very end of the coda - utterly triumphant!
Wonderful video...I love Romeo and Juliet Pas de deux with Baryshnikov in the film the Turning Point. Flames of Paris with Osipova and Vasiliev. Spartacus Pas de deux with the senior Vasiliev.
Part 2 pleeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzz
Yes yes yes!!! All magical moments of ballet and many many screams to the screen! For me one of my top ballet moments: Julio Bocca and Alessandra Ferry in the Romeo and Juliet balcony scene. To this day is unmatched. And Osipova makes me cry with her Giselle 2nd act every single time.
Loved it all!!!! Thank you so much for Jemima Puddle Duck. I used to watch the Beatrix Potter Ballet every time it came on TV when I was little. I want more. And maybe a historic version too...? For those of us who grew up watching Margot Fonteyn, Mikail B., Evelyn Hart, Karen Kain, Frank Augustyn, Rudolf Nureyev and Veronica Tennant. Yes, I'm Canadian and there is ballet up here too.
Welcome and thank you for watching! Much love to our Canadian ballet nerds 🇨🇦 🇺🇸
Thanks!
Aww thank you so much this means so much to us 🥹🥹
@@balletreign A pleasure!
Absolutely obsessed. Yes I've been in love with Ethan Stiefel's dancing since Center Stage! All the dancers in this video are incredible. Please make Part 2!
✨Ethan Stiefel ✨🤩🤩 thanks for watching, stay tuned for part 2! 🫰🏻🫰🏻
my addicting ballet moment that got me to want to absolutely see romeo&juliet, is yasmine naghdi and matew ball's balcony pas de deux!! i love nureyev and fonteyn's too but both have a different vibe due to the eras, but naghdi and ball's having introduced me to it makes it so its dear to my heart
Coppelia Act III PDD with Nuñez and Muntagirov 4:00, where she melts for a moment. Actually I'm addicted to the whole PDD, but then I'm addicted to Marianela even when she's not dancing! Nice color coordination, BTW.
I like your channel so very much ❤🙏
Aww thank u! So happy to have you with us today 🫰🏻🫰🏻✨✨
7:20 This was a trademark of Viengsay Valdes while in her prime. It was astonishing how long she could hold such a position "on pointe," but at the same time, one always had the nagging suspicion that it was just for show. She usually had her male partner stay "in touch" until she was perfectly balanced at which point he would retreat and leave the spotlight on Viengsay. But rarely did these "stunts" really fit into the ballet flow.
Having said that, Viengsay Valdes was an incredible technician - her fouettes were incomparable...
Nureyev and Fonteyn … the best ballet partnership in my lifetime …..especially Giselle and Romeo and Juliet
Part two plssssss
Promising title 😄🫶🏻
✨✨✨
More please!!
Capes...
I wonder if I took my favorite steps from a bunch of different pas de deuxs with vaguely similar vibes and frankensteined them together what it would look like
One of my addictions is watching Alina Cojocaru’s Tchaikovsky pdd, there’s sth about her phrasing at the beginning that’s so mesmerizing, as well as Aurelie Dupont’s pirouette at the end of the same pdd (both are highlighted by specific cuts on youtube, Alina Somova’s dream scene is also super satisfying to watch
I'd love to see you two do a commentary on Sarah Lamb and Steven McRae in Mayerling.
Ryoichi = Espada = machismo!
No but that part in mayerling with osipova and hirano in the royal ballet where he lifts her and she comes down around him?!??!?!?!??!?!? Please I need that moment in part 2
Anyone else watching this while sewing point shoe ribbons?
Hiiiii! Love your videos so much! I would love it if you do a commentary on Romeo and Juliet!
Great video! Would love a part two!
would love a part two! this video is so fun
wutup chicas, do a part 2 for sure my fave is probs sylvie guillem x massimo murru petite mort. i also like darcey b temple destruction
thank you!! incredible video
COOPER NIELSON????? LOL j/k. Love Ethan!
My top Ballet moment is Eric Underwood as The Caterpillar in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by The Royal Ballet.
Please make this a series!
Please link the videos in the description box!!!!!!
One of my top moments:
Prokofiev Pas de Deux
Bridgett Zehr and Zdeněk Konvalina / The National Ballet of Canada
**Choreographr : Christopher Wheeldon
Honestly, there are so many moments in this piece… in general, I saw this and realized what is STILL possible in classical ballet… for example: the quick lift/transition 2:24, the turn sequence at 3:29, the pose at 4:03, arms at 8:14, turns at 8:33, and so much more! ❤
Thanks for sharing your moments!! ✨✨✨
@@balletreign ps - I forgot to say: thank you so much for highlighting Yuan Yuan Tan! She is one the greatest! 🙏💖
Pleaseeee part 2!!!
7:15 out of topic, but these few seconds sound like Mari's theme to me
BRAVA!!!! To the awesome goose! 😊
The QUEEN Jemima 🦆👑
