@@forestpumpI heard Cooper say that the current Tory policy with the border force only focusing on the boats in the Channel, whilst Labour would work with over European agencies. The immigration problem is a European problem as so I believe with need to work together to smash the gangs and stop the trafficking.

I only caught the last 20 minutes of this on the radio this morning. James Cleverly saying "oh you always give her the last word" sounded like a whiny child complaining that his sister had been given one extra fish finger at the dinner table. I was embarrassed for him!

- Most illegal immigration is caused by war and poverty. The only war that we should fund is a war against poverty and war.
- legal immigration existed for years. Before Brexit, it was not counted, many Europeans came to the UK over the years and they were not counted as immigrants. The post figures are high because everyone is counted. Businesses will keep recruiting from abroad because "there is not enough skilled workers in the market", and that is what politicians should focus on, to be fair. Finding ways to measure needed skills, then make short term decisions and long term plans to solve the issue.
Can you answer me one question please. If most illegal immigration is caused by war/poverty why is it that the majority of people coming on boats (illegally) are only male and that they throw their docs and phones away before they reach the shoreline?
I fear illegals with real issues are going to be made an example of by Starmer and co

Allow asylum claims in France and process them. Any claims failing and you can deport them. Also allow them to work, pay tax, pay for their own food and accommodation whilst the claim is being processed.
That does not solve the issue. The EU's outer borders are porous. They need to get a grip!

Are you saying. Let asylum seekers work? So you are suggesting a work visa scheme where anyone can enter the country and if they 'claim' asylum then they will automatically have the right to work?
@@johnrussell3961The EU has failed. Even Barnier said that the EU should have listened to issues raised in the UK and points to France's current political state. They have had years to sort this out.
The Bibby Stockholm is only capable of housing 500 people how can that help close almost 150 hotels. Government figures claim that 20,000 fewer asylum seekers are now housed in hotels. This is down to plans such as the barges and large scale bases such as former military bases, government figures state that these bases are operating at under half of their official capacity - The NAO points out that costs to set up the sites have seriously increased. From 5 million pounds per former RAF base to 49 million pounds for Wethersfield and 27 million pounds for Scampton.? Additionally, the national audit office claims that spending on housing asylum seekers is increasing rapidly. My question would be: if not on barges or the bases where are they housing asylum seekers and why has the cost risen so rapidly?

Where's all the taxes saved from Austerity and the £BILLIONS of taxpayers' money wasted and missing the the tories' PPE procurement scandal, Track & Trace, etc? Most likely in private off-shore tax havens.
That money could've been spent on maintaining schools and hospitals so there wouldn't be a lack of resources which have lead to longer queues, schools and hospitals close to collapsing... That money could've been used to build housing.

Many of these folks arriving by rubber boats have been sleeping rough for some time through various countries, why not continue that scenario and leave them in tents where they land, they can then get jobs buy food and support themselves or not. They don’t get the level of support in France that they expect in England and that’s the reason they want to risk their lives to reach our shores.
It's a pretty low standard to set themselves that they will _reduce_ migration. I reckon they'll use the Sunak strategy and say "the numbers are down from when they were up".

Immigration levels are dependent on so many factors that setting a definitive target is ultimately futile. It simply needs to be proportional to economic needs and controlled, with an allowance for those immigrants fleeing persecution and the threat to life.

Just on one point, I think people have forgotten how hard rocks are 😁 and I thought a bit of colour cheered them up a bit. Why does immigration seem to be the only thing spoken about in any debate. Yes it’s a hot topic but I’ve not really heard anything about how either party is going to tackle domestic issues like child poverty, education or COL crisis???
