Gods, they really are even better live than recorded. Somehow. I saw them in early 2011 and they were just as good then. I haven't listened to them much since then, and now I'm really wondering why the hell not. Seriously, they were my favorite band.
This is one of the few bands that can sound exactly like or better than the studio recording when live. The level of precision they all have is pretty staggering. It's crazy thinking how many concerts they've played.. Lots of bands just put out albums and then tour for a few months and that's it. Guster plays non stop (At least they used to, not sure if they've taken breaks) and it shows. Their live shows are amazing. This is what masters of music sound like. I saw them in the early 2000s in Charleston when they opened for John Mayer (he was at the height of his fame then) and guster put him to shame.
I agree. I've been to one of their concerts, and I noticed the same thing. Even if they didn't have all their instruments for every single song, their rhythm was almost perfect along with their diction and intonation. Truly a pleasure to watch and listen to.
It’s not that rare, but Guster couples that trait with this authenticity and connection with the audience. Every Guster show I’ve been to has been a treasure.
Everything they do sounds much better live. Best example. Listen to Come Downstairs and Say Hello live, then listen to the studio version. It sounds pedestrian in comparison
I discovered Guster back in the early 90's when they'd play live on WDST Woodstock NY radio station. I've been floored and blessed for 3 decades listening to this talented group of musicians. Thanks boys!
I'd like to personally thank Drew Monson for turning me on to this remarkable band. These lyrics transend lifetimes. "Will I get better or stay the same?"
For me it was the opposite. I stumbled upon Drew’s video and watched it because I loved Guster so much. I really liked drew so I watched more on his channel
We saw this tour in St. Louis with the famous Michael Landon and the squid picture. Best concert I have ever been to. The addition of the violin and cello made each of their songs even better. Props to the ladies in the string section. Guster rules!
Beautiful and heartfelt. First saw Guster live in 1999 and just recently saw them play with the Omaha Symphony. Ryan seemed as honored to be there as I was. What a terrific bunch of guys. Love you Guster! ❤️ (The Omaha Symphony wasn’t to shabby either 😉)
Yes I agree.. It also gives me a restless feeling.. Like of transcendental purpose. I tend to be a very static person but this song has always really motivated me. It's about harsh truths and growing up.
If that's all that you will be Then you'll be a waste of time You've dreamed a thousand dreams None seem to stick in your mind Two points for honesty It must make you sad to know that Nobody cares at all I want to be where I've never been before I want to be there and then I'd understand Know I'm right and do it right Could I get to be like that How to know what I don't know Nothing more to gain Will I get better or stay the same? I find I always move too slowly Can't lift a finger Can't change my mind I never knew till someone told me that If that's all that you will be Then you'll be a waste of time You've dreamed a thousand dreams None seem to stick in your mind Two points for honesty It must make you sad to know that Nobody cares at all And all the people who've seen it all before And all the people who already understand Know they're right and done it right Could I get to be like that? I don't know and I don't know It's harder everyday Can't lift a finger Can't hurt a fly I find I always move too slowly One thing's for certain I'm insecure I never knew till someone told me that If that's all that you will be Then you'll be a waste of time You've dreamed a thousand dreams None seem to stick in your mind Two points for honesty It must make you sad to know that Nobody cares at all Nobody cares at all They never cared at all
Supposed to be watching Guster tonight with the Boston Pops.. I was so excited.. ah well.. pandemics happen, this helps get through for now. There will be other dates :)
Hey gangster this is Noah y'all sing a song about me at Georgia Southern University in 2007. Just wanted to say that I really appreciated you singing this song in. Macon. Saw you in England to that same year but I was drunk as a skunk with my little baby sister. Hey tell Joe we miss him. Love y'all keep doing your Springsteen shit. Hope y'all aren't too famous to review comments. Warren 2020 baby!
Just brilliant. This song is life-changing, and I'm twice the age now that I was when I first heard it - so I can say that!

Real musicians sound better live. Fuck that auto tune bullshit. Real vocals, real instruments. Real musicians!!!
I dont exactly agree with you. They sound great of course, but I hear a difference from the records. Great fan though

Most of the time a band speeds up songs when playing Live... But I love the way this one grooves when slowed down a little bit. So good.

I love that I can listen to this.. but hate I couldn’t of been there.. I’ve wanted to see them live since I discovered them.
I've seen about 200 different bands in my time and guster is one of the best live bands ever keep on rockin boys
Guster makes my heart happy
Would love to hear this one live someday.

I don't know why but this song was like my favorite freshman year in college...I did change the lyrics to be less depressing a little though lol
I just don't understand how this doesn't have more views. So good.
I blame it on the violin player.
They’re watching Drake or something. We’ll have this though.
Che bello! In Italia sono completamente sconosciuti. Una vera sfortuna. I love Guster!!!
Such an awesome band. Completely underrated!! Drummer is drumming and doing bongos!! Beautiful song. Beautiful arrangement!!!

Best song ever, it makes my eyes well with tears on account of how beautiful it is.

Grandi Guster!!!
On a cold wet Spring day, we liked these guys music so much, we named a ski run after them. Take that Beetles.
How have I not heard these string versions before now. LOVE Guster's music, love this version!!!!!
I work at a Cheddars restaurant and Guster found a spot in the music rotation somehow. Too cool!!!!

Guster is for lovers!
If that's all that you will be
Then you'll be a waste of time
You've dreamed a thousand dreams
None seem to stick in your mind
Two points for honesty
It must make you sad to know that
Nobody cares at all
I want to be where I've never been before
I want to be there and then I'd understand
Know I'm right and do it right
Could I get to be like that
How to know what I don't know
Nothing more to gain
Will I get better or stay the same?
I find I always move too slowly
Can't lift a finger
Can't change my mind
I never knew till someone told me that
If that's all that you will be
Then you'll be a waste of time
You've dreamed a thousand dreams
None seem to stick in your mind
Two points for honesty
It must make you sad to know that
Nobody cares at all
And all the people who've seen it all before
And all the people who already understand
Know they're right
and done it right
Could I get to be like that?
I don't know and I don't know
It's harder everyday
Can't lift a finger
Can't hurt a fly
I find I always move too slowly
One thing's for certain
I'm insecure
I never knew till someone told me that
If that's all that you will be
Then you'll be a waste of time
You've dreamed a thousand dreams
None seem to stick in your mind
Two points for honesty
It must make you sad to know that
Nobody cares at all
Nobody cares at all
They never cared at all
i'd love to know more about the 10 thumbs down. The song is fantastic, and they absolutely nail it in this live version.
