      My black and tan weenie dog had a large litter of puppies earlier this year. Most of them came out either black or brown like the mom n dad, but one puppy came out a 'blue' dachshund, with grey and tan fur. We kept him and one of his black bros, and I like to joke that he often gets "pretty privilege" bc he acts much more like a punk/bad boy than his brother does but we still love and spoil his bad blue butt. XD;;

@nyastalgiakitten People seem to forget that forgiveness isn't souly for the person that wrong them. It's mostly for you. Holding a grudge was something my parents' generation did more than mind and it destroys you from the inside out. Bitterness, anger, hatred, resentment; those things tear away at your mind and your health slowly overtime and, believe it or not, make old age much more difficult than it needs to be.
Forgiveness if divine because it takes a mature mind to understand that the other person's life isn't at all affected by your lack of willingness to forgive. It's for your own sake.
And then you forget. There is no rule that says you have to include that person in your life in any way. Forget they exist because it might benefit you. Protecting yourself isn't a crime.

When I was in kindergarten there was a girl who had looked “ugly” (her front teeth were crooked and she had a breathing issue) and my class would say she had a something like cooties. But they called it the “(name) touch” and avoided her. Some of them would tease if someone accidentally made physical contact with her or dared people to. I wasn’t one of them. My own teeth were a bit crooked but not to the same degree so I never had a problem with her. No one would partner up with her except me. She later moved away after a few years from bullying.
Time skip to middle school and she came back to our school for a bit. She kinda looked the same but she had good grades. She later came to me and thanked me or being her friend for the time she was at my school. I felt really glad that I never gave into that prejudice.
I never had pretty privilege but my school often bent over backwards to not include me in their top students because I didn’t have a look. 😂 One of my teachers got so mad because she wanted me in her elective class but they put these two students that flunked out instead.

I was that girl in my elementary school. It wasn’t quite to the degree that the girl in your story experienced, thankfully, but I do distinctly remember how other kids didn’t want me around them and didn’t want me to touch them. I hated group projects because of how the other students would be upset to be paired with me. I remember thinking that this was normal and just accepting that something was wrong with me to cause my peers to treat me this way. I only even became aware that I had this warped mindset in middle school when I noticed that being treated like I was “normal” was a surprise. In my case it wasn’t my appearance that made other kids think I was “gross” but rather my behavior. I have severe ADHD so I was a wild kid who did not behave properly.

It’s sad that I’m not the only one who’s heard the “--- touch” at my school. Happened to a girl named Kayla in 5th grade. She had a limp because one leg was longer then the other by like an inch. Me and my friend Courtney were friends with Kayla, but unlike your story Kayla wasn’t a good person 😭 she still didn’t deserve the bullying she got though, especially for something that she can’t control at all

Same thing happened to me. Only I didn’t get to move away from the bullying and it kept going until middle school.
People would ask me out as a ‘joke’ or want to be my friend as a ‘joke’.
That shit really fucked up my self esteem.
No one ever apologized and no one ever stepped in.
So imagine everyone’s surprise when I came to high-school pissy, jaded and not taking anyone’s shit anymore, and they had the absolute GALL to deny the bullying.

I saw a comment about wanting Agatha to come back as a pop star and with a glowup. While I like the idea, her coming back with a glowup may just continue to reinforce the idea of pretty privilege. If the new show goes a step further and allows her to be a pop star with her natural looks that might be more impactful then her having a glow up. Not everyone glows up and should be able to be comfortable in their own skin while still being able to be talented.

As a kid I remember that once they were selecting people from every class to represent the school in a panel organized by the ministry of education, when they got to my class everybody thought it was gonna be me or another girl since we were president and vicepresident of the class and had the best grades , aside from the fact that we always talked during public events for our class, but no, they selected another girl that had terrible grades, never participated in anything and was pretty much one of my friends that went to school to chill with friends , we didn’t really care but the rest of the class got mad in our behalf and asked the teacher why not us , and he straight up say “you ladies are very smart but they will be recording the event and making interviews so we need someone that can represent us well on that, look at yourselves and look at her, is obvious who would look better on camara “ and then he went on to define all the ways we were “wrong” and she was “right” , I was too fat and my friend was too dark he say, I was only 14 but I never have felt so humiliated in my life , he even told me after everyone left “ hey don’t feel bad, just eat less and you can get pretty too, your friend has no fixing she is gonna be dark no matter what she does”, I still think about this to this day, and the older I get the more I see that his words were a reflection of reality

Great video bro! Pretty Privilege is absolutely real and what I find annoying about these shows is how they cover certain topics such as pretty Privilege or Colorism. Why couldn't her character just be a normal looking girl instead the characters always fall into the nerd aesthetic with these popeyed glasses, big teeth, long faces, long noses, and the characters just look monstrous and is not realistic. What's even stranger to me is that Nerds like Agatha are always depicted as these kind, nurturing, and forgiving people in the face of being mistreated and harassed by people. That messaging just comes across as being a doormat or being above your abuse, which is toxic as heck Agatha should have paid Lacienga dust especially after all the things she did and said about her. I need them to get some more writers and flush out these themes a lot more.

I think people who think pretty privilege doesnt exist are people whove always been conventionally attractive and have never had to see the other side.
I was considered ugly af all growing up, i was skinny and short with a round face and chubby cheeks. hella pale with red hair. I got bullied horrifically (which only ended after my best friend in middle school took her life due to the bullying. The bullies who werr constantly telling her to end herself never got in trouble, but they stopped going after me, likely because they feared if it happened again, they might not get off scott free), teachers and school admin often singled me out as a problem kid and stupid because of how i looked. They put me in remedial english in my 10th grade year despite being top of my class in english all throughout elementary and middle school. I had to fight it with my parents, and they only let me take 10th grade regular english in grade 11. I had to juggle both 10th and 11th grade english and i still had my english teacher tell me at my graduation that i was one of the best writers she ever taught. She also taught advanced english, which the admin wouldnt let me take. Because they had put me in remedial english that first year.
A few years after i graduated, my figure had filled out, i lost the baby fat in my face (i still have a round face, but you can see my cheekbones now. Apparently in my metis side, the women usually have a very round face until adolescence, then thin out throughout adulthood, then get the round chubby cheeks again once we hit meopause). I get compliments all the time now. Im 25. Ive had older people tell me im the most beautiful girl theyve seen, i get compliments on my hair, my clothes, my makeup. Every job interview ive had since i turned 20 has ended with me being hired. When i was still ugly, i got a lot of rejections. Guys who relentlessly bullied me and called me ugly and hideous and laughed at me with their friends started sliding into my dms and trying to hit on me. Girls who used to bully me and spread rumours and trash me behind my back follow me on social media and comment how beautiful i am. No attempt at apologizing, either. Of course. I assume because now that i fit their standard of beauty, they think i totally understand and would do the same, and agree with them for traumatizing me (i got jumped. A lot. I had boys beating on me, girls beating on me, it wasnt just mental/emotional). It honestly makes me sick.
It really bothers me that im only taken seriously now that im considered conventionally attractive.

7:30 that reminds me of this one black Opera singer i saw years ago. She was a baritone, and they only brought her up to make fun of her. They didn't even listen. Her voice was absolutely gorgeous and all they did was make fun of her for not being a traditionally feminine eye candy entertainer.
I stopped watching talent shows after that. I was only a baby, but even i knew what absolute disgust felt like.

I remember it being America's got talent or something else that was similar, there was a very rude British man with stubble and it was either New York or San Francisco.
She lost in the first round, so even after all this time I can't find her when I look it up. Just a bunch of famous people or hundreds of articles about people who won.
I remember her wearing a dark jacket, she was very masculine in appearance and had a buzz cut and glasses. And when I say her voice was deep, I mean "Phantom of the Opera" deep. Other than that, I can't tell you much. I'm pretty sure it was around the same time Tyler Perry was still loved and Shrek was still freshly made.
I wish I could help more, but that's as far as I can remember or find about her. I pray she is doing well. Perhaps someone better at sleuthing can find her again.

I was depressed alot because i never understood why none of the guys wanted me but they liked the other bigger girls. As i got older and hit high school , i finally understood why i was different and treated like a outcast, i was never pretty enough or had others stuff like name brand shoes or the latest hairstyles. To myself i felt so ugly because i would ask myself if i had a bagin body and latest syles would people have liked me more. Today i love who i am.

Unfortunately pretty privilege does exist. This apprenticeship I did over the summer cast all traditionally beautiful and skinny women as the leads over the more experienced and less traditionally beautiful women who were more suited for those roles.
It’s just an unfortunate fact that this exists and it’s based on what’s on the face than real talent.

Could it be that pretty privilege in the show itself never showed Agatha again because of her looks 😢 furthering the cycle of favoring pretty people (especially for women characters). As in, if you aren’t attractive enough to give more screen time? To make a 3 dimensional character? Separate from just being “ugly and talented.” I could be wrong, but I was curious other people’s thoughts on the matter :)

For me ive struggled with the opposite of this...
When I was young I was an outcast (and still am) but would come to a mini youth group for kids and I would try to make friends. The thing is with fellow girls, even when they are arguably just as pretty as I, they still see me as competition. So that lead to talking behind my back, and making up their mind that they didnt like me because they were jealous. Untill this one girl finally let me hang out with her and we became best friends. I wish I could say thats the end but their feelings towards me still linger, and no matter how many times I forgive her on her bitter wrongdoings to me, I dont deserve it because im already too pretty :/
    TLDR:
Girls can be envious and make your life miserable no matter how funny, nice, or forgiving you are lol

I dealt with pretty privilege when I was hospitalized for a month for and eating disorder. No one would talk to me and when they did something wrong or shady, I would call them out and it would be my fault that they did something wrong. I had short hair, really bad acne, big glasses, and all the color was coming out of my hair, so it didn't look great and desperately needed a haircut by the end of my stay there.
I also don't understand social cues very well because I have a developmental disorder. They would all treat each other really well and let each other get away with saying and doing some really messed up stuff, but blame that stuff on me. They'd also fake having medical conditions that I had to guilt me into feeling bad for them.
This one girl, we'll call her Sunny, was talking about group 2 (and they were all 13 - 14 years old, and we were all 15 - 18) and saying that they were shady, terrible, and other things that they weren't. They were acting like kids with mental health issues. So, I called her out and told group 2 what she said so they coukd ask the TAs to handle it. Sunny came over and said that I stressed her out so much that I gave her a "grand ball seizure" which you can very obviously tell… she didn't. I told her it's a "mal" and not "ball" and that would mean she would have convulsed on the floor. She describe the seizures as the ones that I used to have, complex partial seizures.
Despite me clearly telling her everything that she did wrong and calling her out for lying, it was somehow my fault. The only difference was that she was blonde with long hair, clear skin, defined lashes, big lips, blue eyes, and a straight nose.
They all treated my poorly because I wasn't conventionally attractive and Sunny for special treatment, became group leader, bullied several group 2 kids to tears, and everyone loved her.

Can definitely confirm pretty privilege is a thing. In HS, I was the "ugly best friend". I grew up poor and an only child. I didn't know how to do my hair as I was the only one with my hair type. Didn't have access to beauty products or nicer clothes. It wasn't until I left for college that I started learning how to take care of my hair and appearance. It was a COMPLETE 180. I even remember a dude offering to drive me home when I was standing at the bus stop with an umbrella. I got so much more positive attention for others, even people who wouldn't really talk to me in HS. It's unfortunate, but looks do matter in how we're treated.

    • @rdkirk3834
      @rdkirk3834 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@TonyTurner Yes, that was true of Motown. Barry Gordy often had a certain type of image he intended to present. Even then, "pretty" wasn't always it. Aretha Franklin wasn't pretty, for instance. Neither was Gladys Knight. But they presented a style and a look that was very much cultivated by Motown, not always based on "prettiness." People also forget about other companies producing black artists, such as Stax and Atlantic, which were nowhere nearly as concerned about "look" as Motown.
And, of course, I'm not talking only about black groups. White acts were often only "average at best" in terms of prettiness.

One thing I found unrealistic is that Lacienga didnt won based on votes. I do believe Lacienga would have won even if Wizard Kelly didnt rigged it. Many of these competition are not won based on talent but based on popularity. American Idol season 8 is an example. The final two were Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. Kris Allen won which shocked a lot of ppl including Kris Allen bc Adam was more of talented of the two. Many ppl believe Adam lost not based on his talent but bc he was gay and Kris was more attractive.

Fun fact I know a girl who auditioned as a contestant for the voice. She was told to come up with a sob story and when she refused to she was told to drop out. Which she did eventually. But it was always just so messed up to me that you needed a sob story to actually do what you trained and practiced for.
Talent can often time mean nothing in the gaze of physical attractions. But it never dies. It lingers and keeps on keeping on. Sometimes to be showcased to the world and other times to die alone.

I made my first friend over pretty privilege. My best friend in preschool had tics he couldn’t control, and people deemed him undesirable for it. My naive tail thought they were playing games with him whenever they ran from him, but all it took was one look back to see he wasn’t happy with how he was treated. What’s worse was… when I was gonna ask him what was wrong, they told me NOT TO!
Bro was crying and they said not to. That made it evident to me I had to. Even as one of the ‘dumber kids’ in the class, I knew it was messed up. So I asked him anyway-how he felt-and he said, “You guys hate me”. Now that’s what broke my heart… glasses and tics and suddenly he was a game to them. Well, I wasn’t playing anymore.
We stayed friends for years after that. Even though we don’t talk anymore, I pray he’s well where he is. Cuz he accepted me, as I did him. 🙏🏽 Hope this inspires y’all in a way.
We weren’t popular, but we were chill. I was happy he was my first best friend. 👏🏽👏🏽❤️‍🔥

Her looks are the only thing that's "socially awkward."

This is just really sad, 😞 😢 especially how they treat people.

agatha wasn't even that ugly: were her teeth messed up? sure. that's what the braces are for. is she super awkward. yeah, but so what? are her face and body a bit long? maybe but she'll likely grown into it. yeah, she's not exactly a super model but she's not flat out ugly either.

I'm wondering if there would ever be an episode where Oscar chooses LaCienega over Penny for something similar just because she's pretty. Like say Penny had to get braces. And she looks "ugly" in her opinion, friends clown her and whatnot and LaCienega has perfect teeth. They have school picture day or something and Oscar pays the photographer to photoshop LaCienega's smile over Penny's to avoid looking like a nerd??

I don’t really know when i started doing this but sometimes I’ll look at these kids who fit these beauty standards. Ofc it’s like oh they’re kids but some just naturally look better than others. In no way am I being weird towards them but I see them and wish I could’ve looked like that or known that my life would’ve been more successful if I was much more attractive. I don’t fit a certain beauty standard. I have a rounder face and while some like that, I’ve learned to hate it and I still struggle with it to this day. I look at all these people, especially girls my age and always notice how pretty they are. I often have to cover my face whenever someone has their phone out because the chances of them taking photos of me are probably higher because of how I look and who I hang around (but that’s not a big part of this)

Id love to see agatha come back too, kind of feels like a waste to have her only show up in this episode as far as I can tell

To be honest even when I was little I thought Agatha was pretty, she doesn't look that bad- But then again I've never really fallen for the trope of overexaggerating a character for a larf-

Well yeah, pretty privelege exists but it is what it is. Same thing with drinks, people will legit spend more on a drink that looks nice over a drink with the same ingredients that looks plain.
