NOTE IMPORTANTE: Comme mentionné dans le livre, le bending tone était déjà utilisé de longue date par les vibraphonistes, tant en musique contemporaine que jazz (George Crumb, Gary Burton...). La "nouveauté", s'il y en a une, fait référence à la méthode de mouvement qui accompagne la tenue simultanée de deux baguettes de gliss ET de quatre baguettes en tenue Steven's.
IMPORTANT NOTE: As mentioned in the book, the bending tone had already been used for a long time by vibraphonists, both in contemporary and jazz music (George Crumb, Gary Burton...). The "novelty", if there is one, refers to the method of movement that accompanies holding two gliding mallets PLUS four mallets in Steven's outfit simultaneously.

Hi,
For this recording, I used the ball of a Malletech Bob Becker BB34 but you could use any other if the plastic is not too hard and too heivy. My book gives more informations about the best specification:

A question from a non-percussionist. Would a similar technique be possible on a marimba? Or would it not sound or simply be too quiet to hear?

Hi,
I would not recommand the bending tone on marimba. First, you will probably crack the bare and two, the result won't be really insteresting. However,
you can easily use this 3th mallet to change de sound or to use effectively to play hard mallet on and ather instrument. For exemple, in the Takemitsu Raintree, you have to play the keyboard and crotales both in the same musical line.
