- Join us as we visit Ljubljana - the capital of Slovenia and a charming city full of artists, museums, galleries and green spaces.
During our visit we stayed in the heart of the city center at Ljubljana Center Apartments. It was the perfect location - just steps away from the Ljubljanica River and surrounded by restaurants, shops and more.
There are many bridges crossing the river including the famous Triple Bridge which connects Ljubljana's historical, medieval, town on one bank, and the modern city of Ljubljana on the other. From north to south other bridges include the Dragon Bridge, the Butchers' Bridge, the Fish Footbridge, the Cobblers' Bridge and the Hradecky Bridge.
Beside the Ljubljana Central Market and Town Hall, there is the Ljubljana Cathedral which is also known as the St. Nicholas's Cathedral. It is easily identifiable due to its green dome and twin towers.
The Ljubljana Castle is located on the summit of Castle Hill which dominates the city center. It has Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance architectural elements. You can ride up on a funicular, spend hours exploring and even do an "escape the castle" adventure game as we did.
The food scene in Ljubljana is amazing! There are so many restaurants, cafes, and bars all throughout the city offering some of the most delicious options we have found in Europe!
We had a great time here and highly recommend a visit to this beautiful city.

Eating young horse meat, I don't think I could handle that. Horse is my spirit animal also. Slovenia is the place to visit. Definitely will visit Slovenia, Czechia, Poland, and many of the Central European nations.
As a local of Ljubljana I can say it's a city I'm falling more and more in love with, with each passing year that I find new appreciation for its architecture and history. I'm really glad you had a nice time here.

I live there, the locks are just for luck for example on new year a lot of people would comme there and pur a lock on it and than through the cey in the water. It always was something special there. We do it every new year.

Thank you for showing the Philharmonic Hall. I became familiar with it about a year before GUWB when I stumbled across their youth orchestra quite by accident. It's all on TH-cam and very well presented, and the Slovenian President is often shown in attendance. Seems, like much of Slovenia, it's very traditional. Later.............David

Sometimes Slovenes tend be too grumpy and complain too much over bogus and irrelevant things, rather than develop the awareness of how precious is this sunny side of the Alps. Free education available to all is surely a big plus. Ljubljana in particular has developed almost beyond recognition in the last 15 years thanks to a very ambitious mayor. Cleaning up the river to the point of being able to swim in it again, is quite a task though. Maybe the most demanding of them all. I hope he doesn't run out of breath trying. I hope you received proper hospitality from the locals and that your experience was nothing but a great one. Welcome to come anytime in the future. In case you haven't visited the Soča Valley, it is a good reason to come back. ;)

@@GrowingUpWithoutBorders It has changed a lot. The entire old part of Ljubljana was renovated and closed to traffic. :)
They put locks on the Mesarski most and throw the key into the Ljubljanica river as a symbol of love. None of the mountains go to 3000 m. The highest one is 2864 m high, but you cant see it from Ljubljana. I am from Slovenia, I was born and I live in Ljubljana and I am also whatching this from here in quarantine.

Well, to reply on this one. You can actually see Triglav from some places around Ljubljana. And the highest of those mountains you were looking at are around 2500 meters high.
The statue on that same bridge- "the freddy" is actualy representasion of lokal mith figure which was later implemented by the guy who hs the statue just by the Three bridges. It's called "Povodni mož" and is a rier spirit that comes to a dance and takes the most vain girl there to a river. They danced all nihgt and she was never seen again.

Yet another incredible, beautiful city! I love that so much is pedestrian-only. Putting this city, and Slovenia itself, high on my list of places to visit. That square is actually called Prešeren Square after the national poet who wrote our anthem, and not the square of the republic which is a different square in the city. Also a fun fact about the trees in front of the church. They were supposedly planted to block the view from the church on a topless bust of Prešeren's muse Julija that overlooks his statue. The highest mountain in Slovenia is Triglav (three peaks) at 2,863.65 metres (9,395.2 ft), so a bit short off 3000m =) A good video with nice production value, keep it up =)

That's Presenov Square (by three bridges) then there is nearby a Kongresni Square (in front of Slovene Philharmony and University main building ) and later on Square of Republic in front of a Pairlament ... should have gone to "Soca river" to see the filming place of The Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian River God Scene

Metelkova reminds me of Christiana area of Copenhagen, though Christiana has become real touristy now.
We haven't visited Christiana yet but if it's similar I'm sure we'll love it.
Metelkova is the place where live young people who are on drugs. Metelkova is a shit hole in Ljubljana.
Les recommend you to go to Cabo San Lucas it's a very good place to go
