- This is a performance excerpt from Jamie McHugh's restaging of Anna Halprin's Circle The Earth at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Dance Department in September 2016. Circle The Earth is a community ritual consisting of 9 sections last produced in 1991 by Halprin and assisted by McHugh in Marin County, CA. McHugh, a longtime protege of Halprin's and an alumnus of UW-Madison, returned to there for a 2 week residency honoring Halprin's legacy in September 2016. Founded in 1926 by Margaret H'Doubler, the UW-Madison Dance Department was the first university dance major in the United States. Halprin was a student of H'Doubler's from 1938-42, and went on to make dance history.
