Thanks for featuring our century-old devotion to Senyor Sto. Niño de Plaridel, Alden! To also add, the fluvial procession is also done to commemorate the arrival of the image 100+ years ago. Tradition states that it was left by a merchant couple after they were battered by wind squalls at sea. That area where the fishing boat docked is believed to be where the image was left to an old couple. The procession back to the church commemorates the transfer of the image from the chapel where it was left to his present-day church where He was enthroned as the patron, replacing San Roque. Indeed, His fiesta celebration every 3rd Saturday (not Sunday unlike in Cebu) is a showcase of the spiritual and cultural aspects of Tigbawanons.
