The Beatles have something for everyone, The Beatles at their worst wrote some of the catchiest pop songs, and at their best wrote some of the most significant songs for a generation that still remain timeless

I did not know that story about Eric Clapton playing guitar on this because Harrison was a freaking guitarist but that's kind of cool. My favorite track is Eleanor Rigby but that's just me. Few weeks ago I asked my pop what Beatles song did he think was my favorite? When I told him Eleanor Rigby was very surprised. Those guys were pumping out so many freaking hits. I'll admit it was long long before my time but my pop was a kid. Eleanor Rigby because I like the lyrics and the double meanings. Thanks for helping me out with that do trivia that I can do it somebody about Eric Clapton on guitar on this track. If they do not have a Beatles board trivia game, they should. Sometimes it's just cool to play something like Monopoly and the old school way. If they do have a Beatles trivia board game that is cool, but if they don't one of you guys use the idea and get the patent because I'm pretty freaking sure that it would sell just because of the Nostalgia of a board game but then of course the Beatles and that Nostalgia and and everybody like trivia usually. Then me 10% in the mail LOL

The Beatles songs that sounded “different “ were by George Harrison. He knew what’s up with the world... very spiritual man. His first solo album,”All Things Must Pass”is amazing. I got it in high school, but didn’t really get into the lyrics until I was older. George has become my favorite Beatle. George wrote and performed the biggest love song ever”Something “...also great is “Here Comes the Sun”,and “Think For Yourself “from Rubber Soul album. My 2 favorite Beatles albums are “Rubber Soul” and “Revolver”. One of their BEST songs is “Rain”, which was the “B” side of “Paperback Writer”. When I was about 9 yrs old I purchased “Paperback Writer”, and once I played “Rain” my allegiance changed. “Rain” is a very overlooked song... unbelievable bass, and the first time backward masking was used.

Back then, commercial success and fame were the result of the artistic output, creativity and passion. It was art first. Now it seems that celebrity, fame and money, are the goals, artistry just seems accidental. Today's "artists" hide their lack of talent with "production values", 25 dancers, light shows and fireworks

There was no TH-cam, no internet, the only way we heard new groups was through the radio and what a wonderful way to hear new music and be introduced to so many different artists! By far, the Beatles were the group that influenced my life the most. Enjoy your reactions so much.

Bravo. I’m 73 . I was in high school when the Beatles started the so called British Invasion and I have always felt I was a young man during the golden age of popular music and the Beatles were the apex of that era. I am delighted to see you perceive that the music is different than anything on the pop charts today. Melodically, harmonically and lyrically it is of a higher standard and I have listened to a good sampling of contemporary popular music. I was also a young man before the music video began to dominate the pop music field, a development many people at the time predicted would be the death of popular music. When the video I.e. what Aristotle called the spectacle , for the eyes becomes more important than the music itself you have a problem. I used to tell my. music history classes that you will need to accept 3 aesthetic ideas to progress in your understanding of music in all it’s forms. 1) popularity is rarely a measure of artistic merit 2) what you like or dislike is , by itself , no measure of artistic merit . 3) you can like a work of art (song, painting, movie, sculpture book etc. without enjoying it. Keep stretching you ear.

The Beatles are one of the two arguably most important rock bands in music history (the other being The Beach Boys), not necessarily for their popularity but for their contributions to composition and production and musical styles. John Lennon is the rhythm guitarist, who plays the song's primary melody. He also occasionally plays piano and, I think, bass. Paul McCartney is the bass guitar player, which is also part of the rhythm section, playing the deeper notes of the melody. He's also a pianist and occasional drummer on Beatles songs. George Harrison is the lead guitarist, who plays the flourishes and guitar solos. Ringo Starr is the drummer. Most of The Beatles songs were co-written by Lennon and McCartney, and they alternate on lead singing on most of the songs. But all, or most, of The Beatles albums feature songs written and sung by Harrison or Starr. This one was written and performed by George Harrison, for instance. Neither were considered great singers, so songs were usually written especially for their vocal range.
The importance of The Beatles comes in the sheer number of musical styles they employed, from boy band style pop songs, to psychedelic rock, progressive rock, and even heavy metal (Helter Skelter is widely considered the first heavy metal song, but has also been described as Punk or even Grunge). They also employed innovative production techniques for mixing tracks, and utilized non-traditional (often Indian) instrumentation and even non-musical sound effects. In America The Beach Boys were sort of a mirror for The Beatles, also employing complex compositions and arrangements and production, and they're associated with a wide range of genres as well, from pop rock dance music to progressive rock. Between The Beatles and The Beach Boys they pretty much invented every major genre of rock and roll music that later evolved throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
Definitely a worthy deep dive to get into both of these bands, a super deep rabbit hole. And yeah, there really isn't a "sound" you can associate broadly with either of them, since their musical styles varied so widely. No two songs sound alike, just like you said.

i'm not really into cover versions, no matter how well done or spectacular or in other peoples opinion 'better' the cover is, i always feel a cover loses a little bit of soul.
Joe Cockers version of WALHFMF is, however, IMO, the greatest cover version of all time.

This is so old that electric guitars were a new technology, and recording to magnetic tape was in its infancy. Most guitar FX hadn't been invented yet. Yet they produced an incredibly sophisticated and layered sound.

I grew up with this music and still play it. I thank you guys for featuring so many British bands and artists. One element missing from your experience is nostalgia. When I listen to the music you feature and discuss I am transported back to a place long ago and a different world from which we live in today. Peace and love to you. ✌

Another stellar George Harrison composition (along with this song, “Something”, and many others is the song “Beware Of Darkness” from his first solo album “All Things Must Pass”If I’m not mistaken, “All Things Must Pass” is also the very first triple album ever recorded for commercial sale.

♥ this song! I suggest the following Beatles songs: Norwegian Wood, Yesterday, In My Life, Revolution #1, Let It Be, Get Back, Eleanor Rigby, Something, Here Comes The Sun, Help, Nowhere Man, I'm A Loser, Across The Universe, Strawberry Fields Forever & Helter Skelter

Try some solo George Harrison (this is one of George's songs). "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)," "My Sweet Lord," "All Things Must Pass." Many to choose from.

One of my absolutely fav Beatles and Harrison songs. Timeless masterpiece with one of the best guitar solos Eric Clapton ever played - and that means a lot! With bringing his friend Eric into the studio saved the band from breaking up even earlier than they did.

The great Eric Clapton adds his confident guitar to this Beatles classic, written by George Harrison, who was his friend. This one of the few of his songs by George that helped define the Beatles late period studio prowess. Another composition by George does it again with measured elegance of his song called, 'Something'. Look into each others eyes when listening to this.

When George first presented this the rest of the guys realised it was special. George was even allowed to bring in an extra lead guitarist, Eric Clapton, to get the sound that he wanted. The bass line is duplexed, probably John on the 6 string bass playing with Paul on the 4 string. I think this was the first use of 8 track recording as well.

I have to say that the best version of this was played at the 'Concert For George' 2001. Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney together was sensational but Eric played out of his skin, you could feel his love for George.

Yeah, everyone talks about the Prince solo version, but this tribute was much more tasteful in my opinion while still being masterful in it's own way. Not to mention so touching when thinking about all the musicians on that stage just absolutely jamming to celebrate George's memory. When his son Dhani came over and thanked Clapton at the end it just made me finally break down in tears.
