On Machine Head: I don‘t know when they said they played to ten drunks in a bar, but if anything that probably happened in the US. In europe audiences remained strong, saw them in a packed venue on the Supercharger-tour. But yeah, in the US where they always had a harder time that might have happened. Aside from that: alot of truth in what you said about them. I am with you in liking Ashes and Bloodstone more than The Blackening. Unto the Locust and Of Kingdom and Crown are excellent records, too.

    My favorite bands are random.
Number 1 is Archspire, probably placed number 1000th in this kind of list.
And then Avenged sevenfold, number 10, fair enough,
And then Trivium, idc if they're top 100 or top 200.

Trivium! I knew I forgot to mention someone when Avenged came up. I think they'd deserve to be in the top third of this list, or so.
Yeah, that's the trouble with these sort of lists. Some of the most kick ass acts simply aren't as big and noticeable, and because the classics will always cast a long shadow of influence, they're roughly fixed. So most of the top 20 are gonna mostly be the same from list to list. At least when it's put together by a general research columnist or someone like that.
