I was in Rome at two shows - 28th and 29th September. I have couple of comments for people being rude towards DG: 1.) both concerts were BRILLIANT........ you cannot review concerts by bad sounding videos on youtube 2.) perfect concert does NOT require perfect performance..... 3.) people who had opportunity to see DG xyz times with Pink Floyd or solo, should remain quiet mainly because there are tons of young generation who are incredibly GRATEFUL they have opportunity to experience David Gilmour live. I saw him twice on Rattle That Lock Tour too.... and its nearly decade ago, for me, those Rome shows were equal experience, not because of they were "perfect" performances - they dont need to be, but they were perfect concerts - including mistakes (if you dont know that, constat pressure for "singing perfect" was behind making autotune which completely destroys music and even backing tapes and lip-synch in concert business!!!! live show naturally equals to mistakes and flaws.... which everyone can discuss in details because EVERY such a moment is recorded today.... isnt it?) and some sort of "self-admitted" vulnerability or weakness...... They were TWO nights I will NEVER forget and noone has a right to judge that by watching crappy youtube video without overall context of concert itself. Its just silly and frankly speaking - stupid.

I’m totally agree with you: some people comes here and criticize David and his guitars song, but fortunately a lot of people coming here and praise him. I can't understand why so many people need to vomit disguised frustrations as a negative review. I would never waste my time going to other people's TH-cam message boards criticizing videos of singers that I don't follow or even like. However, I see that for some people it is a low level pastime. I am happy that you too, like me and many others, were able to perceive beautiful emotions during the concert: emotions that touch the heart and the soul.

Was at the Friday and first concert in Rome. I don't care about others opinion, it was magic and goosebumps all the way. David Gilmour is just a legend and he surely showcased it in a brilliant way on Fridays concert. I'm glad I could have this experience together with my family.❤❤❤❤❤❤

That's the Jimi Hendrix strap, it actually belonged to Jimi and Polly bought it for David on one of his birthdays, he's been using it for quite some time.
It's not just a broken guitar strap. It's a sad moment in music history. This guitar strap belonged to Jimmi Hendrix. Davis Gilmour received it as a gift from his wife Polly Samson for his 60th birthday. Such a shame that it's broken now. I hope the great Phil Taylor can repair it - like he was able to repair all of David Gilmour's guitars over the last 50 years.
It is a bummer to see the strap broken and I hope it can be mended. Not going to lie though, I liked seeing David be “human” on stage when things didn’t quite go perfectly.

Also remember to judge recordings live performances and live albums very differently. Live album versions of songs are usually either stitched up versions of multiple recordings (comfortably numb is a good example of this), or are hand picked from the single best performance from a tour with 110 shows. The truth is that even the best of the best players tend to make mistakes here and there, the way we stream music makes us expect perfection from live performers but that's just not the case. Even if you go back to some of the mid seventies live bootlegs, you can find him making even really simple mistakes like messing up Syd's theme from SOYCD (Oakland 1977), or botching a lick or two in an improvised solo. Of course aging would also effect is playing, but that doesn't make it any less great.

He looked no more uncomfortable in his solo than in many of the bootleg videos of his solos on previous tours. He makes mistakes. Always has done. It's the price of improvisation. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
@Alex-l2q1p No, some of them are definitely mistakes. I'm not criticising him for that. I much prefer someone who improvises rather than plays exactly the same notes each time.
@@bujin1977 It's the reality of live music that gets sanitized out of DVD and records, there is a segment cut from the guitar solo on the Pulse version most used but if you get the full solo version there is a mistake on that, it happens to every guitar player, I've seen the Likes of Alex Lifeson, Alvin Lee, Blackmore, Page, Gary Moore, Eddie V and many more and they have all hit bum notes at times live.

Also remember to judge recordings live performances and live albums very differently. Live album versions of songs are usually either stitched up versions of multiple recordings (comfortably numb is a good example of this), or are hand picked from the single best performance from a tour with 110 shows. The truth is that even the best of the best players tend to make mistakes here and there, the way we stream music makes us expect perfection from live performers but that's just not the case. Even if you go back to some of the mid seventies live bootlegs, you can find him making even really simple mistakes like messing up Syd's theme from SOYCD (Oakland 1977), or botching a lick or two in an improvised solo.
Of course aging would also effect is playing, but that doesn't make it any less great.

He only rarely used the Black Strat recently. He’s used different ones the last couple tours.
Mate David has a dozen Custom Shop Black Strat Sig models that he now uses. The original Blask Strat WAS sold at the auction

The only time I saw David without the Strat was the 1st time I saw David was Robert Wyatt meltdown London festival hall 2001 & 2002 Rick Wright performed Breakthrough on the latter but was Semi acoustic the show Bob Geldof sung Cnumb it's on film as well 🍀✌️👍

Concludiamo dicendo che l’emozione che si prova dal vivo è nettamente differente dal sentire e vedere dei video su TH-cam che spesso, di imbarazzante, hanno l’audio con il quale le persone li registrano facendo così perdere ogni tipo di emozione a chi li ascolta. @@carlogiga Parto dal presupposto che un giorno qualcuno avrà la forza di scrivere il saggio definitivo sul rock ai tempi della terza età citando che ogni volta che esce un disco dei nostri artisti del cuore ci si divide tra chi lo ama alla follia perché gli evoca ricordi del passato e chi lo critica aspramente perché del passato ne è rimasta solo l’ombra. Chi ha ragione? entrambi anche se ognuno nella sua posizione ne esagera pregi e difetti. Per questo ci tocca arrenderci all’evidenza e prendere il meglio di quest’epoca in cui la generazione “luck and strange” dei vari Gilmour,Waters, Dylan, McCartney, Jagger e di tutti gli altri mostri sacri del rock tutti nati nel secondo dopoguerra, sta invecchiando. Quanti di loro avrebbero mai pensato negli anni ’70 che nel 2024 erano ancora qui a far musica rock? Ed invece eccoci qua con un Gilmour “costretto” ad affrontare con classe l’argomento e che anche quando cerca di fare le cose in modo lievemente diverso non può fare a meno di subire l’influenza Floydiana anche seLuck and Strange è la prova definitiva che Gilmour non è, non può essere il guitar hero che molti vorrebbero riavere indietro, ma un 78enne che preferisce suonare con la figlia arpista e cantare di piccoli sentimenti al posto di girare il mondo con show fatti di musica gigantesca e messaggi sullo stato del mondo. Forse avrà un po’ perso la voce ma il tocco della chitarra c’è ancora e rende i suoi assoli godibili e finisce che ti perdi nello scorrere delle note e pensi che davvero quel che David non sa dire a parole lo dice con le dita e finché quelle reggeranno lo continueremo a sentire perdonando anche qualche sbavatura. Gilmour è una leggenda e lo sarà per sempre in futuro.. il tempo passa per tutti e noi gli vogliamo bene

He looked and sounded very uncomfortable in his solo , also sounded a lot different with a cpl of blag notes but stilled pulled it off as always , Legend X
He looked no more uncomfortable in his solo than in many of the bootleg videos of his solos on previous tours. He makes mistakes. Always has done. It's the price of improvisation. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

@@bujin1977 It's the reality of live music that gets sanitized out of DVD and records, there is a segment cut from the guitar solo on the Pulse version most used but if you get the full solo version there is a mistake on that, it happens to every guitar player, I've seen the Likes of Alex Lifeson, Alvin Lee, Blackmore, Page, Gary Moore, Eddie V and many more and they have all hit bum notes at times live.

Quelli che osano criticare Gilmour meriterebbero l'arresto immediato...forse non vi rendete conto che quest'uomo ha 78 anni e ancora canta e suona dal vivo in modo assolutamente pazzesco. Poi quelli che ancora osano paragonarlo a Waters sono da intenare direttamente siccome Gilmour ancora canta e suona DAL VIVO mentre Waters nel suoi concerti canta e suona praticamente in mezzo playback.
Non dare peso a quelli che vengono sulle bacheche a vomitare frustrazioni apparendo come i critici musicali del secolo o i guitar hero della chiesa del paese. Per quanto riguarda Waters invece non mi sento di paragonarli: sono due cose distinte ma assolutamente apprezzabili allo stesso modo. Se guardi nei miei video passati trovi anche i concerti di Waters. Dopotutto sono sempre I Pink Floyd anche se suonassero il flauto o la diamonica a bocca della bontempi che si usava negli anni ‘80 a scuola 😂

@Poxly1975 FYI, I've witnessed the members of Pink Floyd in concert 18 times, including two Pink Floyd tours. I'll be seeing Gilmour three of his four dates in LA on this tour without experiencing it through a camera lens!!🤣
