- PAKHU_ITU Dance of Apatani tribe (A Kind of Wild Bird and its Characteristics)
This dance is performed by the Apatanis of the scenic Ziro plateau. They believe that the wife of their forefather “#Abotani” gifted their first paddy seedlings to them. They also believe that the sown seedlings were in danger of being eaten by the three birds #Pakhu, #Parii and #Pagi_Yaru. This dance depicts the games played between these birds, and children engaged to protect the seedlings.
This folk song is referred to an Apatani folk tale, which goes once upon a time there was a group of wild fowls (birds) and animals in the jungle. They lived happily together. One day they had to move together to a new place and the members first asked ‘Pakhu’(name of a bird) to lead the group. Reluctant to accept, ‘Pakhu’ made an excuse of her poor physical well-being. Likewise, reluctant to move first and lead the group every members of the group refused. They all had a fear of getting killed and trapped which might have laid on their way.
