    After three attempts, I finally figured out how to fry on this stainless steel Pathfinder plate using the Firebox Nano and Trangia alcohol stove combo without all my food sticking.

      After the third attempt, I believe I can now cook eggs and pancakes without making a total mess out of it. I still want to get the pancakes a little thicker, but they will burn before cooking on the inside. I've got to figure that out next. Appreciate you watching and commenting!

    Another wonderful video, John. In the end, you feined disgust with all the external noises, but your cheerful attitude belied your words.

      I'm glad you liked the video. Every time I go to an enormous amount of trouble to set up a shot, an airplane or helicopter will fly over and ruin the audio. Trains are the worst. I have all kinds of video footage with the sounds from these machines which makes it absolutely worthless. I used to get mad but now I just laugh it off. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      You will like the FW Splitter. I like the long handle plus the ability to have tongs. Great for flipping meat and eggs. Thanks for watching and coming back for another video. See you on the next one.

    I have two pathfinder plates, one for a plate and one for a frying pan. I used olive oil or avocado oil on my first outing, but did not scour the pan. I used soap and a rag to clean both pans. By my second outing, I needed a out half as much oil. Now I don't need any. However, the hear has started to warp the bottom of the frying pan. I will be buying the Pathfinder skillet soon.

    • @JohnMillwoodOutdoors
      @JohnMillwoodOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wondering if the pan would warp over time. The skillet would work much better I'm sure. I never could get my plate seasoned just right. I tried a couple different times and experimented on the stove in the house, but didn't get the results I was looking for. Let me know how that PF skillet goes. I may have to get one. I'm sure it's a good piece of gear. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    I have the pathfinder stainless skillet and I have the same problem, I will be getting me some of that spray but I do love my skillet. Thanks for the great information.

    • @JohnMillwoodOutdoors

      The spray is the ticket. It took me three trips to get the plate figured out. My first attempt was a disaster. Thanks for posting a comment!

    Great video! Those thin pans are hard to cook in, esp over a concentrated heat like you had there but You can cook me pancakes anytime! 😀Stainless steel can be seasoned to some degree but not like cast iron. I do the flip of what your doing by using my pathfinder frying pan as a plate.

    • @JohnMillwoodOutdoors
      @JohnMillwoodOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was tempted to get that Pathfinder skillet but settled for the plate. The plate will fit in my diddy bag along with the bush pot. It took me three times out to finally get the hang of how to cook with the alcohol stove and plate. The first attempt was a disaster and the second was much improved. I also practiced some at home on my electric stove. I was able to make a thicker pancake on my electric stove because I could control the heat much better. I might can do that on the alcohol stove if I practice some more. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Hi John
    You have probably by now learned the best methods with your Nano. How best to light it. Best size of sticks, maybe simmering possibly.
    Will you be doing any videos about anything more that you have learned.
    Still don’t think I am getting the best out mine.
    Keep safe John 🔥🇬🇧

    • @JohnMillwoodOutdoors
      @JohnMillwoodOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Kenneth,
      I will continue to make videos on the Nano as I learn more about what works best for me. I also indirectly include the Nano in other videos where the Nano is not the primary topic. Thanks for asking and commenting.

    Keeping it real John! I really appreciate your videos. I use a Primus plate with mine. Like that CRS pot holder. Mine is an old aluminum Coughlans I have had forever.
    Yep with planes. Get so tired of the noise pollution. Thanks
    Mike B.

    • @JohnMillwoodOutdoors
      @JohnMillwoodOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll need to research the Primus plate. There is a train down in the valley and you can hear it for miles. I have to record in between the horn blasts. And as soon as the train is out of hearing range, a plane will come over. It's really frustrating at times. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Do u use a little table while backpacking to put ur stove on ? Or do u just put it on the ground?

    • @JohnMillwoodOutdoors
      @JohnMillwoodOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I put it on the ground. The legs fit in those X grooves of the metal case to keep it stable. I have also placed the stove on top of a big flat rock. That works out very good since you don't have to bend over or get down on your knees. It's a fantastic piece of gear. Thanks for asking the question. I appreciate you watching.

    Nice John, didn’t look like it was sticking to me. Seen the Chinese seasoning woks. They put oil in several times until the pan changes colour. I tried it with a aluminium pan it worked. What’s the weight of your kit. Wanted to do some through hiking. Looking to cut weight, but still use my Nano. Any suggestions ?
    Stay safe🔥

    • @JohnMillwoodOutdoors
      @JohnMillwoodOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know the exact weight of this kit. It's all stainless so there is a little weight involved. Pathfinder is now making titanium versions of this kit. I do have a Snow Peak ultra light kit that I carry in the summer when it's so hot down here. You can check my video below for more details on these two different kits. Seriously, I use the pathfinder skillet and eat out of it. Same with chili, soups, stews and pasta in a pot. I just eat out of whatever my cooking vessel is most of the time.
    Anyone who says they have seasoned stainless steel is eating mushrooms they harvested themselves without a guidebook 😂
