I just wanted to let you know....You are probably this best teacher on you tube, seriously, your voice is calm, you don't jabbber on and on, you explain everything completely and in order for anyone to understand and you don't leave people wondering about the process. I just want to say thank you for being a wonderful teacher and a generous human.
I love your tutorials! They are lengthier than other tutorials, but you describe everything in so much detail as you're doing each step! I can't stand watching tutorials with vague instructions that only show parts of the process. Your videos take out all the guess work and make it so easy to follow along! Thank you for your hard work!
Thank you so much for this tutorial you have mo idea how much easier and better quality it's going to make my resin jewelry. In case anyone else is following the steps and trying to troubleshoot, I found that it's important to make sure the resin isn't spread too thin on any one area of the design, and of course, to mix well like she says in the video. I realized the spots where ink wasn't transferring on my failed attempts felt very thin, and so I added just 3 more drops (1 soft 2 hard) to cover the whole design more evenly and it came out perfectly! For reference my design is like 1.5 by 1 inches
Very educational- what type of printer did you use to print onto a transparency. If ink jet the would the ink run when you apply the resin ? Or did you use a laser printer 🖨️ where the ink is dry !
I actually ran across this same thing by accident a while back when I tested UV resin on foil tape. When I put it under the UV light, the resin shrank a bit when curing and pulled away from the surface and took all the colorant (I used Sharpie marker - which I don't suggest because it ran under the UV light). I used the resin on another foil piece colored with a different type of ink and it left a great texture in the resin because I had inscribed a design into the tape. I am going to try it again later but, instead of foil tape, I may try paint or ink on some Apollo write-on transparency sheets I have on hand.
Thank you for this amazing tutorial! Can I please ask, why do you need to use both the soft and hard resins? Sorry, another question. Could you use a black alcohol ink marker or black sharpie to do around the edges of the wings?
I was doing my research here on TH-cam for tutorials on how to use UV resins and this is an absolute genius idea. Would you be able to add another transfer print to the back of the wings so that if you were looking from both sides you would see the wing design, but still see the glitter through both front and back? Thank you.
I agree, these are gorgeous!! Thank you so much. I hope to try this out, perhaps over the holidays. What kind of worksheet are you using on top of your table there? It almost looks like one of those bendable cutting boards.
Thank you Alison these wings are stunning and your collaboration with Susan of Turtlesoupbeads is so much fun and honestly the combination of you two artists ended in stunningly beautiful results. ❣️❣️❣️💜💜💜👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you for the wonderful video! I tried with the ratio with 2 to 1 and it works! I bent the resin like you did and I found it hard to control the quality of the image transferred to the resin, some ink might still be left on the film. Then I found out that, when I cut the edge of the resin from the film, a little part of the film along the cut edge is already separated from the resin, and it looks a little white, so I simply pulled the film off from that edge, in this way the image is transferred perfectly, and the bending process is not necessary anymore.
Alison's you are truly an inspiration to me. Your talent is amazing. You really do think outside the box!! Love your work. Thank you for showing us how to make these.
This is a marvelous collaboration. I am happy that you and Susan of Turtle Soup Beads, brought this to us. Thank you Allison, this is beautiful and I will be giving this a try.
Yayy! Thanks for sharing, im loving the potential here. Great idea about getting a local print shop to print them out for those without laser printers :))
I am a new subscriber. Love that you & Susan are working together. I know that you both will make beautiful gorgeous things together. I love the beautiful wings. You are a great teacher, just as Susan is. So glad I found you both. ❤️
Thank you for sharing your beautiful butterflies wings within a full tutorial. I am new to this craft and the first time I have visited your site , I can say you are a marvellous teacher. And your creation is wow.
good idea and good tip Alison ma'am.......... Edit 1: ma'am, i was just watching this video and i had a question to ask you.....my parents, mainly my mum, likes to have colour on both sides.......and i was thinking that it would be great having colour on both sides and of course i could achieve that by just coating both sides with plain resin but then i love the sparkle of the glitter and it really made the colour pop as well but then you would be able to see the colourful sparkly wing earrings or pendant on one side but then you would still be able to see the glitter layer on the back side as well and i was thinking that it would be be nice to sandwich this glitter layer between two colour layers, but i just don't know how i could do that......is there any way that you could make a tutorial on this?
Thank you for sharing your beautiful work. I not only enjoy watching you create and seeing the end product, but you videos are so relaxing and you speak so softly and gently that I just find myself transported into my own little world. Thank you
Does the inkjet ink come off onto the resin also? I am having trouble with the laser printed transparencies holding the image and not transfering to the resin. Thank you
Oh my goodness! I just stumbled across your channel and love it! ❤ Thank you so much for sharing your tutorial. You are a great teacher! I can't wait to try this.
GORGEOUS! I had 2 come see how u made those BEAUTIFUL wings when I saw them on Susan's site! THANK YOU for sharing your precious time, talent, knowledge, and skills with us all so we can learn! I'll be back for MORE, subscribed! Hugs & Blessings 2U!
I absolutely love this video, and subscribed before it even ended👍🦋. I love butterflies and actually make many items with my photos. I am excited to see the UV resin, as I have not tried it yet. I have only used two part resin from Little-Windows. Thank you for explaining in detail your process. Please let me know what color laser printer you have and if you are very satisfied with it. Can’t wait to watch your previous videos.👍😍☺️💕
I have so many questions...first why not just print the whole butterfly then decorate the wings? Can this be done on regular transparency film? After the image is printed, can you use a cutting machine such as a scan n cut to cut it out instead of fussy cutting it? Can I make these really big like to put on the side of my greenhouse? How would I cure them if my uv light isn't very big-can I set them with the flashlight and just let them naturally cure? Thank you for taking the time to make this video and answer my questions, beautiful work!
Cindi Hall Hi Cindi, Thank you! 😊 In answer to your questions. You could also print out a complete butterfly and decorate it. I just did the wings. You need to pick a transparency film that is made especially for your type of printer. I cut around the image after I have applied and cured the resin mix. I would not suggest running that through your cutting machine. You can make them really big if your printer allows it, however, that would use A LOT of uv resin to finish off which would cost a lot of money. Uv resin can be cured in sunlight, it just takes longer. I hope I answered all 😊
[mind blown] Thank u for sharing! I have all the ingredients and I will be trying this right after work tomorrow!! I too thought the transparency plastic had to be included in the resin piece. This is a game changer! Love it!!
I tried this and it worked great! The only thing I decided to do differently was leaving out the soft resin, since the semi-flexible softer resin layer seems to separate from the hard resin layers just like the flexible transparency separates from both kinds of resin when u bend it a bit. if I use hard resin for the image transfer, the next layers of hard resin really bond to it and there's no flexing and separating. I'm guessing totally coating these pieces in hard resin would keep them from flexing and separating too (even when using transparency or soft resin inside). I'm still in awe over how awesome halo glitter looks behind toner printer colors! Simply beautiful!
missvickie1975 I’m glad that it worked for you. If you mix the soft and the hard together to make your transfer, you will have no issues with the rest of the process. The hard resin I end the process with bonds perfectly with the mix used for the transfer.
@@ThinkingOutsideTheBox i did mix the soft and hard, creating a semi-flexible layer that was able to wiggle free from the 100% hard resin layer just the same as transparency plastic does when u bend it. .. but of course, i didnt totally coat the piece in hard resin before seeing if the soft/hard mixed layer would separate from the hard layer, because i was testing it on purpose. I find 100% hard adheres to 100% hard better (for me anyway)... that could just be the brands too. But i am still super excited to have found ur video on resin image transfers first... because you have awesome glitter and mica tricks too. Your work is beautiful and inspiring.
How wonderful your tutorial is. I will make this my next project! Thank you so much for this beautiful and artistic inspiration! You are very talented and so kind to share your gift with the world!
I loved this when I saw Fran from Little Windows Resin do it a few years ago. This is a lovely embellished variation & also nice to have vids at a length suitable for grown-ups (capable of concentrating for more than 5mins).
Joanne Carroll Thank you Joanne 😊 I saw that vid, very pretty butterflies However she didn’t create them by transferring an image to the resin. She simply domed photo paper and film. Only problem with doming the film, in time it could separate. The end result that I give is all UV Resin, the film in my technique is only used for the transfer. 😊
@@ThinkingOutsideTheBox Absolutely correct :) I made the mistake of commenting while I was still watching & then got distracted. Yours is a much smarter idea.
Nice idea for the both of you to get together and make something so lovely together. I really enjoyed watching your video and I enjoyed seeing what Susan did with your butterfly wings. Thank you for sharing that.
I know this is an old video but so far, I LOVE it. Curious though if the speeded up parts are my settings or if that is the video? Can't wait to try these. I LOVE butterflies and after losing my niece, the daughter I never had, a year and a half ago, and my little sister, my mom, and me relating her to butterflies, I definitely want to do some earrings like this for all three of us. So so beautiful! Thank you so much for the wonderful tutorial! ❤
Wow absolutely beautiful and I love this technique! I live in a apartment building and recently bought a very strong stinky uv resin. I'm afraid the other tenants will smell it and complain. Do you have a suggestion for a less stinky uv resin?
I just got my new laser printer and have ordered the soft uv resin, which will come tomorrow. I also have the printable wing sets (all of them :) ) and are only waiting for the transparent film to arrive this afternoon. OMG, the printer is so much better than my inkjet printer. I can hardly wait to get these wings made into earrings, broaches and necklace components. When we get the first ones finished I'll post a photo to your FB page. Keep your fingers crossed.
Wow, Alison!! Outstanding technique, you really smashed it out of the park this time. Is there no end to your creativity? Absolutely stunning! So generous to share your idea. Those pieces would make gorgeous earrings, as they'd be so light and would sparkle beautifully with movement. I'm simply gobsmacked 👍🤗😊😀💖
My goodness! Your talent is astounding! These are so so beautiful! Thank you for sharing this tutorial with us it's so generous of you 💜 I'll definitely be having a go at making these 😍 x
Great video Alison. Thank you again and again for sharing your amazing talent. Those pieces you made are incredible. I think you should make a butterfly sun catcher for every window in your SHE SHED. Love your voice when you do these. It's so calming and encouraging.
Many thanks for sharing, I love butterflies especially the blue morpho! I also watched Susan's tutorial, both of you are amazing artists. I've been watching Susan for a good while now. You and Susan made a great team. Hope y'all will do more!
Why do you need to combine the hard and soft resin? I'd think using straight soft resin would be fine for the transfer, and then covering it in the hard resin. I don't have a laser printer or transparency film available or I'd be testing myself tonight! I do like the idea of transferring instead of just cutting out the image and embedding them in resin.
This is really beautiful. I'm going to try it, but I wanted to know if it will work using an inkjet printer? I have previously printed onto transparency film with it but not sure if it will work with the resin. Also, where to you get a UV light from? I couldn't really see yours in the video as it was off camera.
I use a nail UV lamp, I purchased mine on Amazon. They have a lot of them. Just make sure it’s a 36 watt (or higher) And I have an inkjet printer, I’ve seen other tutorials for this technique using an inkjet and it’s working for them. She even mentions in the video that an inkjet printer will work. So have you had any luck? I have not. I tried probably 5 or 6 wings yesterday and not one of them was successful. I feel so defeated. 😞
@@hislambcreations I didn't have any luck either. I waited 3 months for my resin to arrive as you can't buy it in australia, then the image wouldn't transfer onto the resin. I ended up leaving the printout in the resin and just coating it but the resin felt really matt and plastic when hardened. Didn't like the UV resin at all, not to mention the toxic smell.
Kiss My Patootie oh wow! Sounds like this is nearly impossible and I can’t get any help from the posters. I will keep trying tho because it’s a beautiful piece and I really want to be able to do it. Sorry you had trouble as well.
Thank you very much for sharing this amazing idea with us! This is what I have been looking for and it would help me make my drawings into resin accessories. Can’t wait to try this!
Good tips! I’d heard of doing something like this once before, and investigated transparency films. That company also makes some for inkjet printers, so I might give that a try. It’s a great idea to be able to make your own things in this manner, Thanks!
Oh, and I forgot to tell you I already received the intense color shift pigments you recommended on your last video. She really sends them out quickly. I just wish she’d had them all in stock, but I’ll check back. I did get the ones I wanted the most. You are a gem, dear lady!
Absolutely brilliant video. I didn't realise you could do this kind of jewellery craft with laser prints. Can you tell me, what kind of bails would you use if they were to be earings or a pendant. I've seen pinch bails and glue on bails. Thanx.
Both you and Susan are inspiring artistic geniuses! I can’t thank you enough for sharing your talent with us so we too can dive in and learn to create many pieces of art! Susan’s videos have taught me how to create clay canes with ease when I struggled so bad to create a simple cane! It’s her step by step approach and emphasis on how easy some common mistakes are to fix! Your video here and my first to watch are now making me want to switch up mediums (resin) and give that a whirl! Thank you, again! Ya just gained another loyal sub and look forward to watching more videos!
I am loving this style of resin in making the wings. I've done several with no problem but I recently had one where the ink did not transfer to the resin and wondering what I did wrong? One wing was fine, the other wasn't. I know you'll know what I did wrong. Thank you so much!
angela walker Thank you so much 😊 I’m not exactly sure what happened. It could possibly be the ink, if you used a different laser printer. Maybe you put the resin on the uninked side? (I have done that by a accident) Weird that one would work and not the other. Without being there I really can’t tell you why :/
@@ThinkingOutsideTheBoxI watched your tutorial again to see if I can determine what I'm doing wrong. The colored part of the ink does not transfer, only the black accents and outline of the wings. I carefully followed you and did a step by step. I am baffled.
Just wondering... what is the difference between hard and soft UV resin? I saw you mix them both together with a 2:1 ratio, whereas normal epoxy resin is 1:1... is it a 2 part UV resin? I would really like to get the hang of UV resin to reduce my project times but I can't seem to get it right.
UsagiRachel Soft resin cures very flexible. Hard resin cures very hard. The ratio I used was 8 parts hard to 4 parts soft. Normally you don’t mix these two uv resins, they are used alone. I mixed them to make the image transfers work better. 😊
So have you tried with just the hard resin to get the transfer paper off? Cuz I dont see me using soft. I am just getting into uv resin. So what would I use soft resin for?
Oh wow! Susan Bailey of TurtleSoupBeads lead me to you which is just fabulous! Thank you for a very inspiring and informative tutorial. You have made me want to learn about resin today. Brilliant!!!!! Love and Peace from Greenwich London UK.
Hi Dear , I love the butterflies. I just get all set from etzy. Question, what brand of laser printer do you have?. Can you please let me know if you don’t mind. Thank you in advance

Keep your fingers crossed.
michaelpinreno Laser printers are way better. I’m excited for you and can’t wait to see all your beautiful creations!! 😊😊

Hope y'all will do more!
garliclover01 thank you 😊
Why do you need to combine the hard and soft resin?
Tomoko KADONAGA my pleasure! Enjoy!! 💜💜
Pam Miller thank you Pam 💜
All the intense color shifts are now back in stock 😁
Wondering if Pam tried the inkjet and had any success?
They are so beautiful
So well explained, lovely video, loved the way you explain and the beautiful work
IT WAS FABULOUS, ALLISON!!!!!
Karen Bitter Thank you Karen 💜
More than welcome Allison!
Absolutely brilliant video. I didn't realise you could do this kind of jewellery craft with laser prints. Can you tell me, what kind of bails would you use if they were to be earings or a pendant. I've seen pinch bails and glue on bails. Thanx.
Bravo Alison!!!! great use for the alcohol pens!!!!! awesome collaboration with Susan Bailey ... beautiful beaded brooch
Marilyn Ray Knopic Thank you Marilyn 😊
Both you and Susan are inspiring artistic geniuses! I can’t thank you enough for sharing your talent with us so we too can dive in and learn to create many pieces of art! Susan’s videos have taught me how to create clay canes with ease when I struggled so bad to create a simple cane! It’s her step by step approach and emphasis on how easy some common mistakes are to fix! Your video here and my first to watch are now making me want to switch up mediums (resin) and give that a whirl! Thank you, again! Ya just gained another loyal sub and look forward to watching more videos!
Denise Desrosiers Thank you so much Denise 💜
Absolutely spectacular. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for this wonderful video. It's very useful and I will create great jewels with this technique❣️
I am loving this style of resin in making the wings. I've done several with no problem but I recently had one where the ink did not transfer to the resin and wondering what I did wrong? One wing was fine, the other wasn't. I know you'll know what I did wrong. Thank you so much!
angela walker Thank you so much 😊
I’m not exactly sure what happened. It could possibly be the ink, if you used a different laser printer. Maybe you put the resin on the uninked side? (I have done that by a accident)
Weird that one would work and not the other.
I am baffled.
do you know if you can do this technique with an inkjet printer if you have inkjet transparencies?
Bookmarks are great with more flexible resin.
Hi, this is so interesting! Is this the type of resin that does not turn yellow in sunlight?
Oh wow! Susan Bailey of TurtleSoupBeads lead me to you which is just fabulous! Thank you for a very inspiring and informative tutorial. You have made me want to learn about resin today. Brilliant!!!!! Love and Peace from Greenwich London UK.
Karen Beeny Thank you Karen! 😊
Awesome thanks for sharing your GREAT idea of the transfer. Susan of Turtle soup beads and you have done a wonderful job! 😄
Bobbie Campbell Thank you Bobbie 😊
Thank you for the informative video! It was very concise and easy to understand. Thank you for your time and experience!
Hi Dear , I love the butterflies. I just get all set from etzy. Question, what brand of laser printer do you have?. Can you please let me know if you don’t mind. Thank you in advance
Beautiful!!! Quick Question. How much Wattage is your UV Lamp? Did you say 36W?
Brilliant idea! Does anyone happen to know if this will work with inkjet transparency film as well?
Why not just use regular uv resin where you don’t have to mix anything…?
Absolutely gorgeous! Allison, your creativity is amazing! I love watching your videos.
Mari Vlach Thank you Mari! 💜
Thank you so much for clear and precise instructions and for the time you have taken to share this tutorial with us. One question. Can you use already mixed UV resin? Thank you
What fun! Have you ever made your own polymer stamps? I have loads of videos on how to do that, it's great fun and the liquid for that is a photopolymer too.
createinspain I have not tried but want to! I am a huge fan of your stamp making vids! 💜
Can you please contact me on messenger from my Facebook page? facebook.com/DreamWeaverDesignsJewelry/
Love the video and all your beautiful creations…
Wish I didn’t have to sign into Facebook again to see how the wings were finished as jewelry
Where did you get the long handle tiny metal spoon? That would be so handy! :)
I enjoyed your video. Those butterfly wings are gorgeous 😍 I love butterflies. They turned out so good. It's a lot of steps involved but definitely worth the end product. Great job😍
These are so beautiful. Just found you a couple days ago. Now I am binge watching.
