You'll crack up. The biggest Teknikul Diffekulty in Broadcast Television I can tell people about is one that happened back in the early 90s on an independent, UHF TV station in my area where, on a Sunday afternoon, during an episode of Gunsmoke they were airing, the board operator on-duty accidentally slipped about 40 seconds of hardcore porn video onto air. I found out about about the incident from a friend who heard about it on the Jay Leno Show. I was preparing for a career move at that time and when that board operator was ultimately booted out of that station I ended up getting that board op position and worked at that station for quite a few years thereafter.

@@PhilManteWell thanks to the station's on-air Grass Valley AV switcher that had an 'auto enable' feature that would count down the running show segment to pre-roll to the break. Except the operator on-duty had the porn video punched up into the preview monitor.

Never knew why YT disabled comments on these vids. These older Archives give me warm feelings. This Ep has to be my favorite .Ive watched this one like 50 times. Keep Archiving Ben!

If my childhood memories aren't failing me - I seem to remember that one of the *very* early outcomes of a copyright claim was your comments section getting deleted and closed.
Or maybe it was the COPPA auto-detection stuff. I dunno.

One of my absoute favorite episodes of OA. Not much to learn from it, but if OA just did a huge compilation of TD moments with Ben's commentary i'd watch in a heartbeat.
Admittedly i'd be pissed off watching hockey from overseas and having the picture constantly cut out like that. Team Canada FTW!

Geez I didn’t realize how obscure this series really is. Comment section takeover

YT shut down (and deleted) the comments sections to a handful of my videos (this one included) without notifying me. I only just turned them back on recently.

@@OddityArchive I remember back in 2013 when youtube made most comments pre 2012 unrepliable. Which is a shame because I remember replying to a person's comment from over a decade ago, and when they got back to me it was a good time.
This was when youtube reallowed comment replies on older comments.
Sadly, it seems they just delete channels now or comments now.

Australia's first commercial TV station outside a major city was GLV 10 Gippsland, outside of Melbourne. Apparently, the station's opening saw a live advertisement selling lawnmowers - unfortunately they mowed the cords in the studio and the station went off the air.

When the network had technical difficulties, we always joked that 'the Russians had shot down the satellite."

The good old days of when local TV stations used film projectors for most if their presentations, only to see them glitch up with dust corruption, film breaks, jittery images & audio loss.
And don't get me started on faulty video signals. 😁

At the time, WGN was going after seemingly everyone who posted anything that aired on their channel. The joke has since been dropped.

Nickelodeon had a rather interesting technical difficulties thing I saw once. It was Ned's Declassified episode on revenge. The episode started out a little glitched (like the frame rate was off) but it got better, but then near the end the episode just restarted and was all glitchy, and then "nickelodeon animals with wrenches and a machine of sorts" said "we are experiencing technical difficulties." It was pretty neat.

Fun fact, the artwork for the Spiders/Shatner kissing technical difficulties screen was done by Jack Davis, a legendary artist known for decades of work at Mac Magazine.
