well we liked the peluso p49 on er voice. if i were producing her i would not have her so far back from the mics. so many youtube mic shoot outs do that. where do people get that from.
the P49 wasn't bad, I was a bit disappointed as it was overly dark. I've heart the original M49 is a rather darker one, but this was quite a contrast to the others (even the 2247, which shares the same capsule). The distance to the mics is mandatory when doing shoot outs, because you want to make sure all mics "hear" the same signal. Otherwise the differences in the results are due to placement and not due to their inherent "sound". You know how much the sound changes when moving closer to a vocal mic, or moving it up or down / left or right (not to mention rotating or angling)... Of course, in a serious tracking scenario "close micing" her voice would be an option
