I cannot begin to tell you how much I respect you guys. I have been to many shows, and am always amazed at the speed, the team work and dedication that you ladies and gentlemen do to bring a couple hours of joy into our lives. If it weren't for the physical challenges that I have, I would do this in a heart beat. My heart goes out to each and every one of you. For I know the personnel sacrifices you all make being away from your families and friends. Thank you so much.
This is what my 12 year old wants to do when he grows up.He's doing it now with a band called Young Gunz here in Keokuk,Iowa. As his Mama all I can say is "GO FOR IT HONEY",a real job that makes a lot of us very happy!!!
its a JBL Vertec line array system, and prices range from 2200 to 8000 per speaker box itself. Usually you want different speaker cabinets for different applications.
nabal, those are called "chain motors" but are sometimes called "chain hoists" or "electric hoists". Basically just heavy duty single or three phase winches.
I want to do lighting. Lots of cables, lot of lights. Sound makes it sound good. Lighting makes it look good. Both lighting and sound are fun to do as a job.
They don't actually plug directly into the mix console. Signal is fed from a series of cable signal outs that go to power amplifiers that drive the large speaker arrays you see hanging. Other signals are sent to sub woofer systems below the stage and sides. Although once in a while subs are hung too. You can get a job doing this type of work in a big city near you and they do all the training. Rhinostaging dotcom. Then you will get too see how all of the connections are made :) Jim-RhinoStaging
@Rockstar6111 It depends on the tour. This week, I worked one show where the band toured with their setup (which was rented from a production company), and the next day, at the very same venue, the bands were renting the PA from local production companies at each show. In the case, who pays for the gear depends on the band's rider - sometimes the band pays; sometimes the promoter pays. As for power amps, it depends on the speakers and amp combos. 1-4 cabinets per amp is common.
It's interesting I've worked at several of the shows as simply a labor person hooking stuff up and carting it form truck to floor etc. I wish the video was better. But yes I saw the Jackson Browne concert at which all those songs were played and they were great. BTW - the album was recorded in a hotel room in like Evanston I believe. Great stuff!
@iloveGerardWay1424 its seriously tough work, did a tiny show on saturday witha turbosound Floodlight rig. Was there at 12.30 in the afternoon until 4am. and thats a short gig
Our local and applicable labor laws don't require hard hats, but I always wear one. I was almost hit with a clevis pin and it could have killed me, but it missed me. From then on I wear one.
Macca Hemp the wattage is based on flying a few dozen 16 ohm speakers, a ton of 8 ohm subs, most of which you wouldn’t be able to lift. If you learn the math (ohms to wattage / resistance) you will see that based on watts / resistance (ohms) one drive channel might power up to 4 boxes (16 ohm x 4 boxes = one channel of a 2 ohm pro grade amp). Don’t let the numbers fool you. There isn’t any 250,000 watt subs
@raidereddie Touring rates are variable depending on the position you hold. For instance Production Manager Stage manager and Rigging are a very high rate . Audio Lighting Vdeo tech rates are determined usually by said vendor i.e that particular company as a flat daily rate. IMO anyone who works on tour for $200 a day is really cuttin their own wrists !
So i have a question I am wondering if you can answer. Where does all this gear come from? Does it belong to the band? Do they rent it? Or is it the responsibility of the facility or promoter to provide such a massive pa? Also, how many power amps do you have to have to run all those mains?
Sound Engineer, Sound Technician, anything like that fits it really. Most people say you need a degree, but in all honesty you just need experience and to know what you're doing. Hard work pays off, get some work experience by helping out on gigs for free and build a portfolio. A degree will only really get you into a Theatre, but they're all up themselves there!
Just got off work (stagehand) and now I'm real tired. Hey by the way andrew arthur matthews what's a lighting tech? you a lampy, electrics, LD, what? I thought it was pretty good. This guy's not Stanley Kubrick but so what, he captured some good stuff. Where's your video?
It had to be a country act since they love to play indoors during the summer time @ Hershey. I know it wasn't the Rascal Flatts, because of the date this video was uploaded they were @ Hershey 2 weeks, or so after it was uploaded. Yes I am a stagehand for Hershey, and most of the audio comes from Clair Brothers.
@atr1982 As low as $130 net ( a rip off IMO ) and high as $ 350-500 net in certain cities and Union venues. Many variables such as: are you on the Show Call, Rigging, or as a Grip.
i would like to join your team and request that i get paid $40 million/minute to work with you guys. plus i also request an extra $400 billion to buy my own equipment.
@iloveGerardWay1424 it's like crackshotnoodels said, you won't have freetime, becuase you're working very often. you won't have time to meet your friends or to have a girlfriend, becaues everytime they don't work, you have to work! But i like it very much, you meet many people and see nice places worldwide ;)

Stones had 86 trucks a few years ago. The stadium shows can take over 24 hours to set up or tear down.

Brings a tear to me eye.

7:15 Wow, that pile of cables! How do you keep track of all that?
@EaiteRandjamee I don't know about these speakers but the Clair Brothers S4 cabinet weighs 520 pounds and we typically flew 32.

What a bunch of hard working guys great job
@iloveGerardWay1424 its seriously tough work, did a tiny show on saturday witha turbosound Floodlight rig. Was there at 12.30 in the afternoon until 4am. and thats a short gig
It's funny too because it was the guy holding the motor control. He could have just brought it in a bump lololol
No problem MrRiblet..........I appreciate you giving credit where credit is due. I dig the roadie tune........
Our local and applicable labor laws don't require hard hats, but I always wear one. I was almost hit with a clevis pin and it could have killed me, but it missed me. From then on I wear one.
@EaiteRandjamee If I'm right this is a JBL VT4889. one of it weights 72 kg (160 lb)
The amps have 2 jack (XLR/TRS) on each channel wired in parallel so they are daisy chained....
Ouch. It's a good thing roadies are no dummies!
@TF23lliot Most festivals and gigs i go to Locally (Around Manchester, UK) use D&B Audio PA Systems and normally Crown or QSC Amps
@ ron la manna Local 98 it's The Giant Center in Hershey, PA. The audio guy mentions Hershey in the video. I just don't remember what show it is lol.
Eric Boltz looks non union for sure
@raidereddie I heard the can make up to $USD 200 per concert but it depends on the job they do like loading, unloading, managing, directing, etc
hmmm what would happen if i played a bass test on a 250,000w pa system

Okay, so about how heavy is one of these typical hanging PA stacks? I'm guessing it would be a really bad day if one fell on me...?

Big ol' long cables from power amps to speakers. : )
Long cables from mixer to stage too. Audio snake.
You have the best speakers around JBL rock how much are each vertec units ?
How are they connected to the mixer then?
I know that!!!! LOL!!! :) But if you have only one xlr/jack outof each master on the mixer, how is that split to service all those amps???
Are they powered line arrays?? I get confused!!! :)
I probably would need a GPS System to not get lost inbetween all those cables!!!
How does some one land a job on the road crew? I have 10 years experience.... worked with alot of famous latin american bands.
So i have a question I am wondering if you can answer. Where does all this gear come from? Does it belong to the band? Do they rent it? Or is it the responsibility of the facility or promoter to provide such a massive pa? Also, how many power amps do you have to have to run all those mains?
How much is one single speaker? not a whole stack but just one single speaker? Who makes those?
dude this cat looks and sounds like my gramps,he even busted out with bygod like old grandpa did, that's a trip

How much do these guys make on a tour like that?
This is the Brad Paisley tour isn't it? That big guy with the goatee I think his name is bubba right?
Just got off work (stagehand) and now I'm real tired. Hey by the way andrew arthur matthews what's a lighting tech? you a lampy, electrics, LD, what? I thought it was pretty good. This guy's not Stanley Kubrick but so what, he captured some good stuff. Where's your video?

hey I love your video and write songs here on YT...could I use part of your footage for an original song and give you credit? Thanks, Ron

Kitties are so nice,
Kitties are so nice,
Get them down, spin them round,
Tickle their bellies twice...
Where is this ?
months to design and rehears putting it up. on tour, up in the morning down at night

sturoc0 how does one get into the buisness?
@lighttech258852 I am a Rigger in NH and I can think of at least 4 Arena's where hard hats are not required.......yet
@Bubblesses think you added one zero to many, 33.000 per cab would be kinda crazy if you have to fly 40 cabs XD
What band was this for?
think its a jbl vertec array
I have a degree, and that certainly helps!! It'll get you to (big) gigs a helluva lot quicker.
Where are your helmets?

@iloveGerardWay1424 it's like crackshotnoodels said, you won't have
