  • Live view of the sky from a Chicago suburb. Relaxing background video or screensaver, can be great to have on with music. The video may appear almost entirely black on clear nights, with only some bright stars and planets visible. Unfortunately the moon will never go through the frame. Sunrise and sunset are probably the most consistently interesting times to watch, although there can be interesting clouds throughout the day. The sun itself will also not go through the frame. Being not too far from the O'hare international airport there can be the occasional plane depending on the flight path. A surprising number of birds fly through the frame as well, more so during warmer weather. During snow storms the camera may become covered. There is generally no audio although during thunderstorms it may be turned on. The camera automatically switches to a black and white image at night. For anyone interested it is a Reolink RLC-810A security camera, and does a better job at this than I would have expected.
I don't do 24/7 live video for a variety of reasons, the main one being that any live video over 12 hours won't be saved by TH-cam. I prefer to have a collection of videos available to watch and the option to see what particular days were like in the past. I have added the time and date stamp on the video because I noticed that TH-cam doesn't give much info about when the videos originally happened.
Thanks for watching! If you enjoy watching please like the videos and subscribe. The more interest there is in the channel the more I will put into it.
Local time (Central Time) is shown and the date format is MM/DD/YYYY.
The color balance is automatically set by the camera, this most often causes the sky to appear less blue and more polluted than it does in reality. When it's a clear sky here it is usually a very nice blue as expected, and any clouds or haziness is white. I'm looking into ways to correct this but because I'm using a security type camera there may not be any viable options to consistently keep it more accurate. While the air quality could undoubtedly be better here, like in any major city, it is almost never visibly bad, and wouldn't even make it onto my list of negatives of living in the area. However the light pollution is awful, and extremely limits night sky photography and video options.
