This takes me back! I remember as a young girl, waiting for the day I was old enough to join the St James Missionary Baptist Church Young Adult Choir. It was then under the direction of Charles Nicks (then the organist and choir director…before he was ordained and became Pastor.) St James was blessed with so many, many talented souls. I thank God for bringing my family to St James and our years there. There is nothing like a strong religious base and although the original building has long been closed, the memories will live forever. Thank You, Lord, for St James!
Now this is a SOPRANO! She has the range and she has the vocal POWER, she is still doin it the way it should be done with that same POWER. God has and continues to bless this vocal instrument know as Izora Hollingsworth.
OK, now I'm about to run thru my home. How dare you do this to me. OH my GOD. Sing Izora sing. There's only a few 1st Soparnos who can hit notes like this and Izora is one. I loved to hear her hitting those notes and setting the choir up for one or more rounds to a song. Keep them coming, the world need to know we was doing this long before and under the power of GOD.
You all are right about Izora Hollingsworth and the other 1st Sopranos. What incredible talent! I sang with many of them back in the day. Wow! What memories. I now live in Los Angeles and I sure do miss all my Detroit choir members and friends.
Anna Mae Parker sang this song at the First church of Deliverance in Chicago, under the direction of Julia Mae Kennedy and Dr. Ralph H. Goodpastuer. She would always take the house down.
THAT'S AUNT GODDZORA!!!!! Only me and my sisters called her that. Man,I love this womans voice. Other Detroit greats in 1st sop: Dr.Velma Willis LaBarbera Whithead Dorthy McMillin Hulah Gene Dunklin-Hurley Denise and Gwen Morton (from the Whitfield Co.)Can U think of someone I missed? But THIS woman hade a Frighting range;just listen to "I can depend on God" from HBTN,OR "What shall I render" from the A NIGHT IN CONCERT lP. I thank my God I was born in 1972,in Pontiac,Mi
Delores, who sang "When We All Get to Heaven", with Donald Vails Choraleers should be added to this illustrious group of 1st sopranos. Forgive me, at the moment, Delores' last name escapes me.
She did that there. Could you imagine her and Ms. Hurley at the same time on this one??? They'd have to sing it in a building with shatter-proof windows...LOL.
jholyghosthead, no Izora belongs to St. James only. Donald Vail 1st Soprano is Dorothy McMillan. Detroit was and is blessed with some awesome 1st sopranos
