No you want an 7-6 to 8fter. Essential for leveraging fish out of the thick stuff. You want a rod thats long and stout, but with a parabolic bend (moderate taper not a fast or extra fast where just the tip bends). Makes a huge difference in actually landing them with a big weight

Long rod helps to maintain a more vertical pulling angle.
