I think the reason the Dreadnought quotes are so fascinating is that it’s a robot/dead man’s voice speaking so profoundly yet very matter-of-factly. It’s like if there was a man alive to speak about Ancient Egypt because he was there and now standing in front of you.
I just love the idea of these seemingly immortal dead man walking. These fuckers can be as ancient as the Great Crusade, possibly having served alongside their primarchs, or even the Emperor himself, and can serve any chapter more so by providing ancient knowledge, wisdom, and guidance, more then any one or hundreds of the battlefield.

I always had this idea that some more out there chapters equiped their Dreadnaughts with emergency explosives, so when shit hits the fan, the bastard in there can go out in a blaze of glory, taking as many xenos with him as possible.
I believe all dreadnoughts as long as not too damaged can blow their reactors causing a near miniature nuke to go off learned that from the Horus heresy books however so I don’t know if they still can
Naw, a Dreadnought frame is an almost irreplaceable relic; it would be like using a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé as a vehicle borne IED. Like most Imperial technology, the Dreadnought is robust beyond measure. Even when it is disabled or battle ineffective, they can be recovered and restored after the battle. Likewise, the sarcophagus interring the Marine can also support them even in the event of catastrophic failure, so reclaiming the honored dead (living or not, so to speak) is also a critical task. Both the Marine and Dreadnought are holy relics, and are treated as such. While the pilot could choose to overload the reactor, such a thing would only be done in extreme circumstances, as it not only ends his life, but the line of the deathless heroes that Dreadnought has carried. And that's not even considering the silliness of compromising the dreads survivability to pack it with explosives.
I write this comment mere days after the announcement of the retirement of the boxnaught, despite the fact that we will lose one of the best models to ever grace the tabletop we can rest easy knowing that the classic dread has brought us so much joy over these past decades, as is evident by the popularity of this video, rest easy brothers, a duty honorably discharged

The marine within the dreadnought is still technically alive. He could either be speaking normally, or there's some relatively simple device within the dreadnought that allows for basic speech.
the speaker is probably covered under armor, seeing as communication is key on a battlefield. that or a dreadnought does not have speakers, simply transmitting its voice into the radios of the surrounding units.
I know this is an old comment but I thought I'd chuck in my own 2 cents. In the astartes collection audio book, there is a really good short story from the perspective of a dreadnought, and essentially the marine inside still thinks in his own voice, but it comes out in the robotic tone we know, and he is aware of that. Really cool insight, especially since he doesnt even know how kuch of him is in the suit, just that he is there
