    18:55 You fired right before doing the dodge sweetheart, which is why the manoeuvre failed. When the enemy becomes enraged, you need to stop shooting and wait for them to charge at you, then dodge and then fire. 🙏🏼

    Lack of beautiful orange/red color and QTE's aside, this replay of yours has given me a bit of a re-appreciation for the TRA version! The more expansive rooms and variations on the classic puzzles are nicely done. Seems like you had fun with it as well! Looking forward to St. Francis' Folly and facing our canned bean-loving rival adventurer Pierre!

      Yes I do think that some sections being expanded and having more/longer puzzles is a plus to Anniversary, it’s just a shame there’s other issues with it that ruin my enjoyment 🙈💔

    Fun Fact: what you see from 28:00 - 28:20 plus what lara is climbing and scenery from 33:20 - 33:55 are NOT mountains. The level St. - Francis - Folly is based on a real location in Greece called "Meteora" (or Μετεωρα,which literally means "the Floating Ones"), which are located near the town of Kalabaka in Thessalia. It is often called the "Grand Canyon of Greece". They are towering formations of limestone rocks, which can only be found in regions that had Sea millions of years ago. A lot of Orthodox monasteries reside in this region which is why the monastery here exists, but some of them were abadoned. I intended to upload a foto so that you and everyone can see this, but unfortunately I can't so if you want you can google for the fotos and tell me what you think

    I kid you not! Every time I rewatch the showdown between Lara and Larson; at 25:48, I always yell with all of my power “GO ON! GET HIM!” just as she lands and turns around to advance on him (in time w/ the music). IT’S SUCH A MUST 😂😤🤩💪🏼

    Really miss the colors in Tomb of Qualopec...
    They were so gorgeous in the remasters I loved it.
    I really like the background noises like the little jingle, especially in Tomb of Qualopec.❤

    I am so glad you mentioned it, I am also sad they cut the St. Francis Folly monk diary bit in Anniversary. It had allure for sure! And Anniversary really can be summed with - Crystal D hated color, heh :D Thanks for the video, Suzanne, amazing as always! Love the lore talkthrougs :)

    Interesting fact for you Suzanne; if you were to have not found the shotgun in that secret tunnel behind the waterfall, then 26:50 is the moment you would’ve gotten it going forwards from that point in the game. 😏💪🏼

    I love this level, this is one of the few levels, that imo is just better than the TR1 one (colors aside). 😍
    7:05 That's a completely valid approach, I do love me some original quality of the game, but I always mod games on the nth time I'm replaying the game. (You can only imagine how my remasters look like, full of outfits, scenery changes, different textures, sounds, tracks and enhancers, but it's only cause I've played the classics between 10-20 times each, so it's nice to change the experience) 😅

    I own 10 Tomb Raider games on PS 1 - 3 physical game disks. I play the first 9 games on PS 2 due to backwards compatibility.
    I play the first 9 games quite a bit.
    When I started Tomb Raider VII Legend the jumps and where you had to stick the landing was rediculous. It seems to me starting with Tomb Raider VII it was more or less trying to show off what the system could do. Up to Tomb Raider V Chronicles each area was 4 levels. Now with Tomb Raider VII Legend it's been merged into one massive level as opposed to 4 smaller ones.

    Idk if you've completed Tomb of Tihocan yet but if not then try something: in the side of the room there's an alcove mostly covered by a grate except for an opening at the top, if the crocs are still alive then while she's in there they often glitch out by either shaking or spinning around in a rapid circle repeatedly until she comes out. I just tried this on the steam version (because it was a different version of the game I saw this on) and it worked

    I’m sorry; are you seriously trying to tell me that at 27:39, Larson was on videocall to Natla whilst being RIGHT BEHIND Lara as she was entering Qualopec’s resting quarters, and Lara, for some miraculously incomprehensible reason, DID NOT HEAR LARSON TALKING TO NATLA? Despite being RIGHT BEHIND HER & WITHIN EARSHOT!? Ok I love Tomb Raider with every ounce of my being, but that moment of plot armour is BLASPHEMY I TELL YOU!!!!! 😂💀

    Again, there are several features I really like with this remake. I like the moves, the parkour, the platforming, I like how some puzzles are drawn out more and who doesn't love fun grappling hook sections? 😅 I'm just disappointed when they change plot points for one. And a small QTE instead of a full on boss fight against Larson? Ugh that's so lazy haha. Oh well, the cutscenes do look really good though. Nicely done Suzanne and congratulations on reaching 100 (and beyond) channel members! It is more than deserved! 🥰

      I believe they mentioned it in the commentaries but apparently the reason for the QTE(Mainly for the human enemies) is because they wanted to build to the moment Lara killed Larson in cold blood. He did save her life in Egypt and she killed him out of greed for the Scion. That if you shot at the human enemies throughout then it takes that away. Kinda like how it did in the reboot.

      I agree, this game had some nice moments, but then a lot of other moments feel shortened and dulled down. For me it just doesn’t quite capture the magic and excitement of the original 😔💔

    With you on all the changes - the colours, again, just make every part of the Core games seem so distinct - each game is so vibrant and varied. And yeah, ending the first chapter of the game, not with actually picking up the artefact and then having a boss fight, but a cutscene and some QTEs.... ugh, it just feeds into a particular type of gaming which I'm less keen on, where its 'cinematic' nature comes ahead of actual gameplay, which seems daft to me. To be fair, that's something Core started being guilty of in Last Rev and Chronicles too, but CD really charged ahead with it.

      I think all video games were trending in that direction. Resident Evil 4 and 5 had loads of QTEs as well, whereas the PS1 games had none.

    This level feels quite middle of the road to me. While there are traces of colour, it barely pops and doesn’t dominate the level like it’s predecessor did. It’s not fully true that colour vanished with time. Egyptologist Anthony Browder explained in an interview that most of the time it’s wind abrasion what removes colour. Of the tomb is fully locked it’s very likely that the painting will lool just fine, maybe a bit darker or clearer depending on the pigment if it reacts with oxygen or moisture for too long.
    As for the narrative, it’s quite good. I like that you have to climb again for that switch and there was barely any RCoN’s. While I’m not a huge fan of LAU platforming, they did quite a neat job here with the corridor shiming. As for the last chamber, I also wished they gave the player the satisfaction of pressing ACTION buttor to claim the first treasure ever. Similar to Lost Valley, the “twist” of the atlantean is given in a cutscene rather than in regular gameplay but, considering that most of the audience were returning players who already knew TR1, treating those moments as surprises to us wouldn’t have been the best choice imo.
    Oh Larson! While this version kind of works, the “I can shoot her but I have feel something for her” doesn’t work for me. It’s a bit of cliché and doesn’t fit in the script as well as the ultrastupid Larson that, when commanded, shot without even asking questions. Pierre landed much lower, but more on that on it’s level.

      Yes! It’s so sad to play the Egypt levels in Anniversary with no colour, when they should still have colour if they are sealed chambers underground 😭💔 The lack of colour is so boring, everything looks the same 💔 but yes, some of the narrative and design elements work really well, but the cutscenes replacing gameplay is a big L too 💔 Haha I dunno, I kinda like the whole thing with Larson and Lara, it kind of adds an extra layer to everything, but I can see how it’s a bit cheesy and cliche too 😅❤️

    I like this level but it is kind of short for a final level in a location. And while I get why they went that direction with the Larson fight, it would have been cool to play through that and punch and kick Larson's butt in gameplay instead of quick time event cutscene. Though I don't really know how that would have worked back then with the limitations. A Tomb Raider 1 remake made today could probably do something like that. But I don't know how possible it was in 2007 in that engine. Even though they got to implement a lot of things the original team wanted to do, crystal dynamics were still held back by the limitations of the Legend engine and the PS2/PSP.

      Ye removing the final confrontation with Larson makes this a bit underwhelming for a section finale. Anniversary suffers a lot from doing things like this in my opinion 😩💔

    It is a shame that Anniversary in particular couldn't dedicate time to making proper combat boss encounters for armed humans like Larson. I think Crystal Dynamics had a bit of an issue with enemy types throughout the whole trilogy. Legend had almost nothing interesting in terms of animal combat, Anniversary intentionally avoids human combat, and Underworld is underwhelming at both with zero boss fights. I will cut them some slack since they were made to rush each of these games out in the space of a like, a year and a half, which is mad. If they wouldn't have had time to make the human bosses actually interesting, then I can accept not having them for the *most* part. (But I still think they could've made at least one particular boss fight near the endgame both playable and interesting)
    On another note, I've always enjoyed the point that Richard made about how he believes Atlantis is the foundation upon which all civilizations were built. It feeds back into the mono-myth theory from Legend/Underworld where all these ancient cultures have so many intersecting legends and beliefs stemming from the old world, which Atlanteans were an influential part of. It's surprisingly easy to not really grasp that thematic link across the trilogy, but I do enjoy how subtle and interpretive it is.

      Totally agree with this, they managed to remove almost all interesting boss fights from this game, and you really do feel it 😩 yes I love how they bring the mono-myth in here again, they did a good job of tying this game into Legend and Underworld ❤️

    Yeah the screen shaking is pretty egregious in the end. 🤢 I’m usually not bothered by that stuff either. Not looking forward to getting there myself I’m still in Lost Valley. 😅
    Great video. I think this era of games really forgot about readability and making characters and environments contrast well. Everything being so muted makes it more confusing and less interesting.
    If they weren’t going to have Qualepec do anything other than being crushed they should’ve left him dead. I thought that maybe there’d be a changed up boss fight with him since I’ve never seen Anniversary before. Alas

      TR1 also had lots of screen shaking at the end of the Atlantis levels. It's one of the reasons I never finished that game back in the day, as I found it made the final section almost unplayable.

      Yes this screen shaking seemed so extra over the top 😂 I could hardly look at it 🙈🙈🙈 yes the muted and dull environments do make it feel boring, which is a shame 😔 and I totally agree! Why have Qualopec be alive at all just to instantly crush him? 🙄
