What is this "social life" that you speak of?
My wife can already confirm that our social life is in the drink every Thursday evening because of DCS with the boys. If you really want to apply pressure to the relationship, buy a Buttkicker and go in low with the Huey on gun run after she has gone to bed. I can confirm the CO was not pleased with my total disregard for noise abatement in the house that late. It also does not help when you have head phones on and are talking as loud as you would in combat and yelling fuck yeah when you have highly successful run. Words of wisdom from a man who has been there……….continues to be there
Endure till you find the right partner (I'm assuming woman), then hermit up and have fun together.
Of course, by "right partner" I'm referring to someone who would support you having something THIS COOL.
@@Devil-mn3dc I'm lucky that, at least for the moment, my fiancé works overnight, so I don't have to worry about flying around without my headphones on being annoying as hell with the constant sound of the RWR and whatever other cockpit noises there are. But on the weekends, it's quick to get a "Turn that shit down! Why is it beeping so much!?"

the way you have VR and the virtual cockpit is so good, is in perfect harmony, imagine 15 years ago you have could deceived everyone by saying you were flying the A-10 in a war scenery with a t-shirt on and beer on the side

Add a few strips of leds above the cockpit and have it sync with the space overhead in the game to create the surrounding light on the cockpit.
Good idea, but the overall light levels should be kept high enough for the headset cameras to track the stuff without problems.
I was thinking the same thing maybe one of the ones for TVs would work for cheap, it would be super cool to match the color.
@Reed-fo4db Boosted Media did this for his racing simrig. Looks amazing on camera. I have hue lights throughout my living room, and they sync with my screen. So, whatever game I play becomes much more immersive.
@@johto Some people on Reddit say that infrared light is preceived well by the tracking cameras.
@@Kenionatus could be, but my meta quest 3 gives a warning of at least for the (hand) tracking quality if sitting in too dark.
HOLY HELL! What a time to be alive, for sure! Well done, brother! Well done! Decades ago, in the US Army, we had what was called SIMNET. It allowed USAF and Army to have virtual and joint maneuvers. The graphics were MicroProse Apache polygon level. BUT, it had a real life replica of M113's, M1s and artillery pieces. Each vehicle/plane/artillery was run via Sparcstations. And Bradleys. So for example, if you let the 25mm ammo run out w/o linking the next can of ammo, the computer would impose a 20 second penalty before you could fire. The physical one-to-one scale allowed the training to happen (not the polygon graphics). But your setup is about million times better! Well done.
Haha, we used to borrow that kit in Grafoenwehr (or however you spell it). Fun times.

this is so frigging cool I'm moving to oz in February alone without any family I been looking for something to keep me busy and motivated and it appears I shall be creating an entire f18 cockpit and i would love to create a ch47 one eventually.

I have been waiting to see you try this for so long! The mixed reality I've done with DCS / Virtual Desktop / Quest3 - makes it seem like you own one of these planes and park it in my home office.
Do you run DCS through Stream or Stand alone?

I imagine this would be an even more immersive experience than the screen as it adds the 3D aspect. Can't wait to see the tutorial on how you split the pass-through.
It’s built into the virtual desktop app from the meta quest store. I use it for falcon BMS
So cool, so immersive. Even with lowered graphics settings it looks great on this video.

Tried full VR, but was really frustrated having to feel for controls, etc. This has me excited for VR again! Really looking forward to seeing how you got this to work so well.
Don’t know if you have or ever would do virtual squadrons, but seeing your mix of seriousness and chill in the flying style you’d be a perfect fit our group. “332AEW.” That goes for anyone else who has a similar play style to his in the video.
Well just to remind you incase you’ve forgotten, you called this out during your “Virtual reality vs a real simulator” vid. 4 or so years ago as the future of flight sim and you were I think spot on. By the way you also said in that video that you’d sell your projectors so if you give me a really great price that would be good haha. Well done with all of it, looking forward to seeing the next one.

This is a next level way of gaming and making videos.
Being able to see your hands touch physical controls while playing in VR is wild! Really puts a whole new sense of how it feels to watch. It’s been said before about other peoples cockpits and methods but this really seems like the closest thing you can get without actually flying. Subbed from this and hope to see more in the future.

Yep, been running mixed reality for a while, with the big triples gathering dust. It is the future once I upgrade to the Somium.
imagine you could use something like dolby vision placed above the cockpit so that the lighting would match the game based on if the cockpit was facing the sky or ground. Id never leave my room ever again
Very cool. I’m in the early stages of doing this with a Spitfire cockpit and am seriously considering a very bright light on a motion controlled arm to create correct shadows inside the cockpit during aggressive manoeuvres.

Holy Cow! I thought I'd come 'budget close' to my dream with a Winwing suite and Track IR. I'm still relatively new to DCS. But NOPEY! Money aside, I don't have the technical expertise to build this type of rig. Who does? This amazing chap!
This right here is the DREAM! Would love to understand how to set it up so that head position/cockpit position is always centered in the right place in the Quest 3!

The technology has got much better but also less accessible to the average working class person, when I was in my teens/early twenties it was normal to have a decent pc that could run things like dcs, now in my 50s I’ve been effectively priced out of the market, owning a pc now has become a luxury for the rich, and it truly is heartbreaking to see videos like this to remind me of what we had 20 years ago.
I remember saving up for a month to buy another 8 meg of RAM to run Quake better. I think it was $400 (US) on sale.
Things are comparatively much LESS expensive now, but your value perspective has changed.
Well now you need to get a DOF Reality simulator. Just about $5K and the added realism this will bring will be night and day to what you have now.
I would love to do this. Looks like a fun time and about as immersive as you can get without cockpit tilting. Really nifty video.
I think it would be cool if he did a charity stream and if people donate a bunch of money at certain amounts it would start sending him enemy aircraft etc to fight off.

When I was 9 my friend had the big G.I.Joe base and I wanted one so bad and now I'm 49 and it's been a long time since I seen something that made me feel like that but I want this set up... Bad😂
I’ve had the opportunity to experience an actual Luftwaffe Eurofighter simulator. It had mixed reality and it was great and really immersive!

How were you able to get the DDI screens working as I thought DCS disabled exports when in VR?

This is what I've been waiting for with VR. I like the idea of VR, but I need to be able to see my HOTAS. I can navigate my controls by touch, but I just need that comfort factor of being able to look at my stuff if I need to.
For those of us without a fully cockpit, with just a desk mounted HOTAS, how do you think this would work? Do you just sort of trace where you want reality to pass through the goggles? Is it smart enough to track my pass through area if I move around in my chair, or if my chair rolls a bit?
Also which headset is this? The Quest 3?
