    Thanks for the review of the Boomer 40, you are correct not a lot of info on line. I have been considering the NH 40 and the JD 3039R. I really like the cab of the NH but find the JD controls a little better laid out although the NH has far more switches and future switches. I am also concerned with that extended loader and not allowing wheel weights. Really did not want to fill tires. I will be doing much the same as you on 16 acres with lots of scrub tree removal. Did you consider JD when buying and if so why did you go with NH. I expect it is because you were always a blue guy. Any feedback might help with this large investment for me. Thanks

      Hi there and glad you found the review helpful. The 3039R was exactly what I was considering against the 40. It was a VERY tough call for me & I went back & forth a dozen times. In the end it was because I had such good luck with my TC25. That tractor was like a M1A1 tank I used the living heck out of and really worked it VERY hard and it NEVER gave me any structural or electrical issues etc. Plus I knew the people at NH. BUT.....knowing what I know today if I had to do it all over again I would probably try the 3039R. Partly out of shear curiosity. NH tractors from 20-25 years ago are NOT the same tractors of today (which I assumed they were). Last week I ran the 40 all weekend very hard in 1' sticky thick mud retrieving the logs and trees I piled up along my tree line and am making a huge huge burn pile. This is where bigger tires in the front would have helped a lot. And again, you MUST be extremely careful when you fill up a 72" bucket and have to lift it high up over uneven ground. Go REAL slow & get ready to drop the loader in case you feel it starting to tip. I wish the wheel spacing was just a few inches wider. And if you do add wheel spacers you will void the warranty so you screwed yourself. Also buy as much extended warranty as you can once you are in this price range. I wish a had a grapple to go pluck all those limbs and trees from my tree line.....pulling them back out and moving them 500' to the burn pile can be a challenge & not very efficient. Oh, I also thought the NH cab and build quality was a little better (and thicker) than the 3039R but that was by visual look overs & not by any hard spreadsheet comparisons. The lack of an overhead dome light still pisses me off to no end to this day when I go to use it at night. A tractor in this class w/o courtesy lights is a sin & down right cheap. Same as the unlit switches. On a plus, my added light bars are really, really sweet.....it looks like Tiger Stadium when I turn them babies on ! GL and post some reviews and picks when you pick one.

      @@w8bya Thanks for the input, Im in the same boat as Realty Executives Plus Ltd. I have been researching several tractor brands in the 35-40hp range. Kubota, New Holland, LS and the newer Bobcat tractor which i hear is pretty much Kioti. I really liked the RK37 with the cab, but lack of dealer support and them being still new really concerns me. Everything I read people say dealer support is #1. There are so many choices its head spinning,.
      The Deer was about $10-12,000 more than most of em besides Kubota. Its alot of extra money to pay for a premium name but the more posts I read, people are saying that their Deer tractors, dealer support and availability of parts are great. Another major topic is the re-sale value is top notch. Not that I plan on selling but its a good feeling to know your tractor is holding its value for decades to come.

    • @w8bya
      @w8bya  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fit4ya1975 I found pretty much the same thing. NH, JD & Kubota were all pretty comparable price wise, surprisingly Kubota was a lot more salty then I thought it should be plus their financing packages did not come close to NH or JD 0% for 7 years. Plus, unfortunately the Kubota dealership I called did not seem to have much time for me and kinda had a snotty attitude. I know this was just one person and it does not represent the whole lot but it was who I ended up and had to work with so I crossed them off the list. I made the assumption, and a bad one, that NH because it, over the years absorbed so many world class tractor companies like Ford etc that there would be a lot of "legacy engineering" carried forward but that was not the case. It really comes down to a newly designed machine by new engineers and bean-counters driven by the bottom line which always rules......forget about the dozen companies NH swallowed up over the last several decades. Again, if I had to do it over again I might try a JD but they did leave a significant (sour) impression on me when I bought a small X530 lawn tractor. I honestly was NOT impressed one bit ! Esp considering what it cost me. It was NOT cheap. I know that class tractors very well and it was actually a mediocre almost poorly designed and poorly made tractor using thin sheet metal. It would never stand a chance against a Super Cub-Cadet I had many years earlier as far as durability & ruggedness. I estimated I paid almost twice as much as the X530 was worth just for the name. From that point on I realized future JD purchases may be the same. That helped me go blue. And I will repeat what I said earlier.....when I was looking at them back and forth and back and forth on the same days I just thought the JD was not as HD as the NH. All the parts seemed to be just a little thinner. Plus the A/C in 90F temps never really got cold the way I expected. I sat and tried at the dealership 3-4 different class JD'S. I tried a 2000 class, 3000, 4000, and 5000 class tractor and not until the HUGE, dual step 5000 series did the A/C really kick-butt. Ok, sorry for being long-winded but just sharing what I learned and what direction I might go in the future. Oh, last several days really worked the NH VERY hard clearing out more tree line. Had a lot of fun clearing out big trees and major brush in foot+ deep soft mud/clay.

      @@w8bya Thanks for the feedback, I don't mind a rant at all, it shows true experiences you have had. There is a NH Dealership literally 1/2 from the John Deer dealership. I haven't visited either of them yet but I sure will take into consideration everything you said. It's a big purchase. Like is said before, I watch Outdoors with the Morgans on here and he had 3 RK Tractors for 2 years and had zero issues with them. The RK tractor also comes with the Yanmar Diesel which is a very good engine from what everyone says. It also has a 8 year powertrain warranty which is huge. My only concern is they have only been in the Tractor business for 3 years and theres only 1 Rural king here in Michigan which is 180 miles away from me. The RK has all the features standard that is an "Option" on the John Deer. I take great care of my things, id assume the RK would last a long time, its just that in the back of your mind thought of "what if they go under then what". Good thing is I know several good mechanics if anything does happen. Who knows, I still have a month or so to decide.

    Today the Boomer got a serious workout. We got at least 12" of snow on top of the 8-9 inches from last week. This is where some bigger tires would have come in handy. Just able to make it thru 12" of snow but had to clear the snow if deeper in order to make my way through it.
    The one thing that was awesome was it was 11F when I started her up and she fired right up in a split second and ran smooth w/o any chattering. Very impressed by that. And, it just floored me that within minutes it got so warm inside the cab that I had the thermostat set to cool forced air. Only a T-shirt, no gloves and house slippers. NO extra warmth or heat needed ! Within an hour I had the two back side windows cracked open to stay comfortable. Of course I could have turned on the A/C but who would believe that I had to run A/C while it was 11-18 degrees outside :-) Love the cab and being able to listen to tunes on the stereo as I plowed all afternoon.

      Where I live we can get up to two feet snow in a 12-48/hr period. Sometimes it's light and fluffy and easy to move, and sometimes it's wet cement. With those dinky front tires and my uneven terrain, I can just see myself getting rutted out over and over again.

    • @w8bya
      @w8bya  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@user-qr8ki8ue4i Yes I could see that as a big problem. Not sure if you noticed (made a video about it) but 2 years ago we traded in the 40 for a 45 which is a much beefier tractor. It has properly sized front tires and now that I loaded the rear tires with 1000 pounds of juice it is a real beast.

    I'm gonna buy a Boomer 50 or 55. I've got 10 acres, with a mix of small 1 acre pastures, 2 acres of woodland. I need a jack of all trades, post digger implement, hedge trimmer, loader, 4t trailer tower, 3pt log splitter, mower, cable, some light surface tillage for my wifes garden. Looks like the tractor equivalent of a Leatherman. I could go cheaper with an open top, but I want the cab as it rains in Wales alot! Based on your feedback, think I will look to re-rig the electrics, LED's work lights ontop, internal lights, work light etc. Needs a little tray by the by the AUX /USB and power / save cables getting the way of the operator.

    I too have a New Holland TC25 that I have had for almost 20 years. I decided to upgrade to a Cab Tractor and was going to go for a JD 3033R 33hp No Loader for around $29500. There are 2 JD dealers with in 20 miles of me. I decided to take the trip to Ocala, about an hours drive to look at New Holland. They did not have a Boomer 40 in stock but priced one out for a $29000. So the Boomer 40 has 7 more HP than the JD 3033 and was sold after I watched your video. Untill I looked at LS 40. It's the same as the NH. Same cab, same engine same hood with a different grill. Its like a Ford and a Mercury. Same car with a few changes. Plus I could get the Loader included for the same price point.
    The LS dealer said the New Holland Compact Line is not made by New Holland and is actually made by LS and if you look at the TAG Plate on the frame you'll see LS at the beginning of the VIN number. I went back to New Holland and looked and it was true.
    I ordered the LS and will post Video for comparison Soon

    Really appreciate your insights. I was/am looking at this exact year/model from a private seller. I would be using this tractor on hilly/rocky/uneven terrain, so your input as to center of gravity and tip-over tendency is super helpful Probably no the tractor for me.

    • @w8bya
      @w8bya  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I am glad the video helped you out. Something that I just had done on my Boomer 45 was to have the rear tires loaded with juice. The rear tires are fairly large and they put in around 55 gallons in each tire. That added over 1000 pounds which has made a HUGE difference in how the tractor works & handles. For example, I have about 40 triax loads of fill/clay that I am using to cover rocks & bricks I am spreading inside the perimeter of my 2-acre pond to control muskrats. In order to push the bucket into that hard clay I would have to be in 4WD 100% of the time and had to be very careful not to raise the loader too high even with a 650 pound rear blade on the rear. Now with the rear tires loaded I can get full loads in 2WD without spinning the rear tires and feel 1000x safer about keeping the loader 3'-4' off the ground. You may want to consider doing the same.

    The light is a very easy fix. Put a reflector underneath, angled up. You will then receive reflected light off the ceiling.

    • @w8bya
      @w8bya  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah but the light is not that strong. It is when it is 6" from the side of your head shinning in your face but I think the amount of light getting spread out then reflected off the ceiling would be very minimal at best. I will be adding a real ceiling light. But thanks for the suggestion.

    YOU NEED TO ADD THE PROPER WEIGHT OF BALLAST TO THE REAR TO HANDLE THE LOAD THE TRACTOR IS RATED FOR WHILE USING THE FRONT LOADER .READ THE OWNERS MANUAL AND YOU WILL SEE THE RATINGS OF THE TRACTOR.THANKS FOR THE VIDEO

    • @w8bya
      @w8bya  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My particular manual does not have a lot of info on that. Also you can get quite a few different buckets on this loader, and in my case, having a 72" wide bucket I can really get a lot of weight up front real fast. I ended up making a drop on cement counter weight ballast system that fits over my existing grader box.....It adds about 700 more pounds and makes working the loader so much more safe and stable.

      Ok I had a chance to run the tractor (we had 4" of snow and I had to clear several thousand feet for us & the neighbors). But yes, in high-range, from a dead start, pushing down the pedal is pretty hard. Once the tractor starts moving faster and faster the pedal gets easier & easier to operate. I am also reviewing all the brands and looking at the JD 3039r with a cab and I have looked at NH, because I currently have a 2001 TC45D that I love. The biggest issue is that I want the cab for snow, but I also want the belly finish mower, which you cannot get with NH if you get the cab. I think they are losing a big market by not figuring that out. Because of that, I will probably go with JD. I may have to trade my NH in, but I am trying to figure out how to do it so I don’t have to.

    • @w8bya
      @w8bya  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is a very big tractor for a belly mower. I had a 72" belly mower on my TC25D and while is was nice it was not a smart choice for me esp if you are going to cut around a house and trees/shrubs etc.....it's just way too big. Instead I got a nice Z-turn and can finish all 6 acres in 2 hrs.....about 2-3 hrs LESS than with the TC25D or even a 54" JD traditional tractor I tried. I would re-think the desire for the bellow mower. And, when you start using it for more heavy duty jobs you only risk hurting the bellow mower. And no matter what it is still a PITA to take them on/off as needed. I now keep two machines for two jobs.

    • @toddcarroll2277
      @toddcarroll2277 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      w8bya I’ve heard that. The NH guy suggested a three point finish mower. I need to look at that also. After seeing your cab with the windows, I like the side windows a lot. The JD doesn’t have that. I’m on 5 acres now, but I would like to move up to 10 or more in the future so I only want todo this once. The NH salesman suggested the same thing with the zero turn, and I know they can move fast. My wife has vertigo and she said that would make her throw up. If she has a cab, she would do the tractor. It is big but the 2025r, even though it is a better size, only has a heated cab and like you I was in it a couple of weeks ago and it was stuffy and hot, and it was 65 for a temp. I cant imagine when it is 80 or more without AC and I don’t want to keep taking the doors off. There is always something we need to compromise on. 👍

      @w8bya  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@toddcarroll2277 I know my NH guys had no problem with me bringing home a tractor and trying it out for a day, see if you can do the same. Bring home a 3039R (which is BTW the exact model I was going to get instead of the Boomer-40) and drive it on your lawn around some trees and shrubs and home. We are out in the open but still the cab is like a magnet for clipping branches etc. You will kick yourself every time you nail one by mistake. The more you own it the faster you will cut with it and the more scratches you will put on it or run over things.
      As far as your wife, I suggest she go slow. Me, being an old fat-guy, I love whipping around on my Z-turn. It's like a go-cart on steroids LOL. My wife is the same way as yours. Put her on one and have her go slow and see if she can live with it.
      Last consideration, and this is huge, not sure where you live but around here from end of winter to May the ground is soggy and when you run a 6000-7000 pound tractor with skinny front tires and R4's on the rear you WILL be leaving huge rutts everywhere you go. Even the smaller TC25D did that and the 40 is bigger & heavier like the 39R. My advice, get the NH and a Z-turn. They make Z-turns with regular steering wheels too if that will make her more comfortable. Rem she does not have to whip around like you or I would. GL and please let me know which you get.
      Oh, forgot to comment on 2 other things you mentioned. The A/C is an ABSOLUTE must in a closed cab. It can be 20F outside and me pushing snow in the boomer and I MUST be with just a t-shirt.....and at times, if it is sunny, I even turn the A/C on ! The greenhouse effect is huge. Plus you have the heat from the engine & hydraulics warming up the cab from below and in front of you. A/C is a MUST ! But I love being in the cab with the stereo playing and me perfectly warm even when it is absolutely frigid outside. Come to think of it....I do not think I have EVER had to run the heat once yet.
      Finally I had a finish cut "bush-hog" for about a year for my TC25D. It cut great but let me tell you unless you are JUST going to use it for cutting 100% pure open land maneuvering around trees and corner and obstacles with a loader and rear-mounted hog etc was exactly like trying to maneuver a battleship around a winding creek ! I was CONSTANTLY having to keep my head turned around to ensure I was clearing obstacles and not going to run the cutting deck over things. Great for WIDE WIDE open areas but around a home and trees etc, not for me.......sold it abt a year later.

      yes for sure ! If I could only go back in time I would have got a smaller one. This boomer was one of 3 new ones the dealer got and they all had the same loaders/buckets. The thought never even crossed my mind that this would turn into a major concern. You only learn about these things AFTER you get to use the equipment for a while. The one good thing about it is it's very nice for pushing and lifting large piles of snow out of the way.

      Back then it was in the 30-35k range. But knowing what I know now the very 1st thing I would do is make up a detailed check list of features and specs for a similar tractor from NH & from LS. I would not hesitate to jump on an LS if it had the same features and cost me 10% less ! Same differences between a Chevy and GMC or Carrier & Bryant A/C.
