“You look absolutely beautiful. You truly belong here with us among the stars” - Lando What a treat with two brilliant painting videos in so short time - thank you!!
I am so excited about this video! I haven’t painted many darker skin tones and really happy to receive some professional guidance on it. Thanks for all you do!
So many great things in this video. I don't have this mini, don't plan on getting it. That being said can use every piece of this for something I do have. Your mastery of color is just amazing. Thank you for sharing (2 in as many days no less) and please stay safe.
Lovely vid again Mark. As always, great work, but particularly useful to have your usual detailed breakdown on Afro-Caribbean skin. I always had issues with this and it took a long time to realise how light I needed to go with the highlights.
Hey Sorastro! Thanks so much for making these videos! Your Imperial Assault work is the reason I felt confident enough to give this hobby a try, and it’s probably kept me sane during this pandemic. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you!! I also had a question: I’ve noticed lately that you’re using a different brand of paint than you used to (I think it’s Scale?) and I was just curious about why that is. Thanks!
Thanks a lot Michael! I enjoy exploring different paint ranges, and I happened to really love some of the colours in the Scalecolor line, plus the super matte finish is just perfect for painting areas of soft fabric like we have here :)
Such detailed but well organized and planned tutorial! After watching your vids, I feel confident that I can eventually become a good miniature painter. Do you have any plans of painting Rising Sun miniatures in the future possibly? Really keen to see how you interpret the asian style miniatures.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. Although I like the look of the Rising Sun minis I'm afraid I don't have any plans to paint the game in the foreseeable. 🙂
Thanks Michalis! I started exploring the Scalecolor paints a year or so ago when working on the Marvel figures out of curiosity, and I really fell in love with some of the colours, and I find the super matte finish is really wonderful for painting softer fabrics (like the cloak). :)
This video is over a year old now but I love your work. As someone who lives in the US are there any alternatives you could recommend to the SC colors you use here?
Another master class video. Btw, Sorastro, are you using your Paint Brush: Size 2, Series 8 by Rosemary & Co to mix your paints or is that another brush only for mixing ?
My only concern with Lando is why on Earth at the end of empire strikes back, was he wearing Han’s clothes? Really watch it again, Lando is dressed in Han’s Star Wars(new hope) outfit. Once again, a wonderful, highly detailed paint job. Amazing work, young sir.
Great video as always! Are you having trouble getting Testors Dullcote Spray? Here in the States it’s getting very difficult. I read Testors is shutting down a lot of their product lines. Do you recommend any alternative matte sprays?
Thanks a lot Sean! Yes, I'm switching to the AK Interactive Ultra Matte Varnish once my Dullcote runs out. instagram.com/p/CLUnhIsHcQX/?igshid=11w1m87q8k5g 😀
Hi! Well, for the Star Wars figures I study the films very closely - looking at the costumes, and how they appear in different scenes etc. I also have quite a few photos of my own which I've taken of the original outfits from exhibitions in the past. It's quite striking how different the colours can appear in the films compared to the actual reality! I then make a creative decision regarding how closely I want to lean towards the actual colours of the outfits, and how they appear on screen (I usually land somewhere in the middle, but lean more towards on-screen accuracy). It's then a case of selecting and mixing the colours to match! :)
Hi Cameron! Beginner or not, I'd recommend gravity feed, and duel action. Then it's mostly a question of budget; One of my airbrushes is the Iwata Revolution CR (0.5mm), and I think it's a reasonably priced airbrush that would be well suited to a beginner. I hear the Badger Patriot 105 is also a good beginner's "workhorse", so that might also be worth checking out :)
Your paintings are awesome! But when I try to copy your style I find myself having to put on multiple layers for good coverage and it looks like you only need one coat. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks Dennis! I usually try to state when I'm applying multiple layers etc, but I think the key is, if I want opaque coverage I'll thin the paint just enough to get it flowing nicely (and not leaving raised brush strokes, or smothering details) but not more. Also, having a little flow enhancer mixed into the water really helps too, because it helps with the flow, but without having to over thin the paints. :)
Love your content so much. You make it look so effortless (I know that's not true!) You are like the Bob Ross of miniature painting!
Thanks so much Justin! Much appreciated :)
One of the best Star Wars characters, well done.
Thank you buddy! :)

What a treat with two brilliant painting videos in so short time - thank you!!
Thanks Kim! :D
The highlights on this figure are outstanding. You make it almost seem like it is actual fabric.
Thank you Edward! I'm happy you said that :)
This video and Landon Calrissian are, "Cooler than the other side of the pillow."
Ha - thanks Matt! :)
I've been looking for an Eddie Murphy minipainting tutorial and I'm not disappointed.
It's wonderful!
Lol - thanks! :)
Two Sorastro vids in one week?!? What madness is this! (Something denoting joke)
Ha ha - I actually finished this one last month, but have to wait for licensing approval before publishing :)
I am so excited about this video! I haven’t painted many darker skin tones and really happy to receive some professional guidance on it. Thanks for all you do!
Thanks a lot Andrew! I really appreciate that :)
I love these videos. Especially how they're broken up: 7:30 spent on base tones and the remaining 20 minutes on finishing touches. Amazing work.
Thanks a lot Anthony! I'm glad you liked it :)
@@Sorastro I do, I can't wait for the next one.
Me and Sorastro slowly graduating from the usual base > wash > highlight method to this.
It's good to see your still doing star wars legion
Thanks! I do love me some Legion (and have plenty more in the pipeline...) :)
Yay!
I'm hyped for that video, your Lando from Imperial Assault is my favorite miniature painting video ever.
Aw thanks so much! :)
Long Awaited Legion Lando is here!. thanks and great tutorial!
Thanks a lot Ian! I'm glad you liked it :)
I love Dark sea blue. Love your channel
Ha - thanks! :)
Very well done with the cape and skin, im gonna need to take notes on the cape haha
Thanks Josh! They were the two areas I felt were the most kind of expressive and in need of some extra love :)
Mine is on the way. great work as always.

Incredible as always.
Can you paint Agent Callus, and Inferno Squad next?
Lando has always been one of my favorites! So cool!
Also, just picked up Oracle. Highly recommend. Great album. 👍
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that :)
Just got him today. Great timing!
Awesome Henry! :)

Thanks a lot buddy! I really wanted to focus in on the skin tone and the cloak for this one, so I'm glad you liked it :)
The paint job on the cloak is ace.
Thank you! I really wanted that to be the "stand-out" feature :)
Yay new Sorastro content!
:D
amazing work as always. Any chance we can get a count dooku painting tutorial soon?
Thanks a lot Louis! I might cover him with a PDF guide... :)
Next terrain video: Making a walk in wardrobe for all his spare cloaks!
Lol :)
Lando looking like Teddy Perkins for a hot minute there.
A some yes
That's amazing
Thanks a lot Ashley! I'm glad you like him 😀

Very cool finish, your tutorials are so great ! Will you do the same for Kallus ?
Thanks a lot! I don't actually have Kallus on my schedule I'm afraid.. sorry! :)
@@Sorastro no problem, I have a lot to do with all your tutorial and my figs
My god... amazing!
Thank you very much 😀
It looks great I don’t remember if that is a new kit or not thow
Thanks man! Yes - I believe it's only just coming out - like, today/tomorrow :)
Thank you you are the best
Fantastic!
Thanks Bob! :)
YESSSS, now I know how to get dark skin tone right, thank you!
Awesome! Thank you Daeris :)
nice work
great finishing touches
may i ask why you changed colours?

Thanks a lot! Hmm I have friends in the US who don't have any problems getting hold of the paints. Scalecolor even has a US website: scale75usa.com/ 🙂
@@Sorastro Oh wow okay awesome, thank for replying I just assumed they were solely UK based.
No problem! 🙂

Another master class video. Btw, Sorastro, are you using your Paint Brush: Size 2, Series 8 by Rosemary & Co to mix your paints or is that another brush only for mixing ?
Thank you! I sometimes use an older brush for mixing, but sometimes can't be bothered switching.. :)
I would love to see you Paint a 75 mm statue or bust...build a diorama...I know it would be EPIC!!!
Thanks Timothy! I'm actually planning to do some larger scale stuff, so watch this space... :)

Damn you! Again you defeat me! Having finished the model before I even got mine! Next time Gadget.... next time!!!!
Lol buddy :D
Is there a website or something where it tells you the Vallejo equivalents of the Scale Colour used here?
Hey Neil! I think there are a few "paint conversion charts" floating around out there, and even some apps that might be worth looking at.. :)
Sorastro, lately you've been using Scalecolor paints. Do you feel them superior to other paint lines?
Hi Patrick! I do enjoy them quite a lot, especially for painting softer materials like the cloak where the matte finish really helps :)
Hey @Sorastro's, How do you pick know exactly what colors to use most of the time?
Hi! Well, for the Star Wars figures I study the films very closely - looking at the costumes, and how they appear in different scenes etc. I also have quite a few photos of my own which I've taken of the original outfits from exhibitions in the past. @@Sorastro what ratio of flow enhancer to water to you use?
I just add a few drops, but the specific flow enhancer you use should suggest how much to add on the bottle :)
Thanks for the tip.
How long does it take you to produce a painting video like this, start to finish?
Hi Brian! It varies quite a bit depending on the mini. For someone like Lando 7-8 days maybe?
Is that two videos in two days?
Ha yeh.. well, I finished the Lando video last month, but had to wait for it to go through a licensing thing before I could publish it :)
You are busy😀😀
Always... :)
is it just me or is something going on with the audio in this video?
Hi Jeremy! I don't think so; could you be more specific? 🙂
@@Sorastro there seems to be some sort of distortion or echo? normally your audio is very butter smooth, but sounds different its hard to place
it may have been on my end, re watching on my phone and don't hear it 🤔
Hmm strange (and thanks).. I certainly didn't do anything different than usual when I produced this episode. 🙂
@@Sorastro thanks for looking into it.
