This is what also happened to me. Wife wanted to get me one as an anniversary gift in 96, but I thought 2k was too much money at the time and said no. We were recently married and I thought we had not developed our careers enough to have the disposable income for such a purchase. Fast forward to last month; I mentioned to her about the Omega Speedmaster we almost bought, complaining about the rise in price since then. She flat out told me, "Well, you was being an idiot, thinking you were being smart, and I wasnt going to argue and make you feel like you didn't have any say in how we spend our money at the time. You didn't know I had already budgeted for it and we could have afforded it. So, its your fault." 😡

From this list I, myself, personally, would choose the Smith's simply for the little known history and the story behind it. However, the "best" I suppose has really got to be the Speedmaster. Why? Because it has an iconic status no other watch will be able to match. Except, possibly, the first watch to be worn on Mars. Even then I hope it is a Speedmaster. I would go further. I would like it to become a spacefaring tradition that whenever mankind first sets foot on another celestial body they are wearing a Speedmaster. Indeed maybe gift one to the local inhabitants.
