      @@bbllaakkeeee your not far from some of the greatest most amazing thing you've ever seen in your life river and creek fishing, for small mouth. In Virginia. James River. New River. Maury River and many more. Most creeks and rivers around us hold smallies. You can kayak. Wade. Walk the banks. Whatever you want to do. Smaller finesse type baits. 4 inch black zoom lizard. Flukes. Senkos. Small spinner baits. Small buzzbaits. Frogs. Pretty much any thing that looks like a crawdad, helgramite, mayfly, minnow, frog, worm, snake whatever they'll eat. You can go catch 75 to 100 smallies a day no problem. And you can fish little bit bigger baits to be more selective and target bigger fish. Crank baits are go to as well. But 3 to 5 pounders are not at all unheard of or uncommon. My brother in laws dad is a river smallie junkie and the pictures he has would boggle the mind. Great fishing in Virginia

    I put the shower blows medium sized one to work this morning Matt, wound up catching 12 bass and baby striper and like 9 bluegill and few white perch. I was catching schoolies that were coming up feeding on shad. Only lost 2 fish which is pretty good on top water imo. Bone white, Gamakatsu ewg hooks, 14 pound Trilene mono, and had a frigging blast. When they died down I tried deep cranking, spoon, dragging texas rig, c rig, big shakey head and drop shot. Using ol monster and net bait big worm but just couldn't get em to bite anything but top water. Which is just fine by me lol. Great video guys

    All the rain here in OK after a slow warm up ( so slow bluegill were running bass off their beds in June so they could spawn) then record heat and now inches of water in a week. The grass fisheries are blown out. Clear water fisheries have been the best bite for me lately. Hoping this cooler water coming in will get the vegetation healthy and clean up a few of my honey holes.

    It's interesting to me that you comment about how smaller fish are hitting like 8lbers... my experiences up in Lake St Clair and South Western Ontario are the opposite. I will say that I have not caught an 8lber before, but I have caught several high fours, some fives and even a pair of 6lbers on top water and not one of them violently exploded on the lure. (110 whopper plopper or Zara Spook). The big splashy blow ups were always 1-2.5lbers. Fish 3lbs and up for the most part would just slurp the lure from the top of the water. These big fish were a mix of smallies and largies, but on second the lure was on top of the water, and then it was gone.

  • @bkbaitsal4389
    @bkbaitsal4389 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    At what fishing techniques do you keep your drag locked down and not locked?? It would make for a good video. I think I pretty much lock all my baitcasters but not my spinning reels because I usually have 10 pound braid on those reels. Pitching I use 40 pound, the rest have 15 or 20 pound, all on braid. Total of 20 rods and reels. All Shimano reels, and all G Loomis rods.

    • @jaypearce20
      @jaypearce20 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find that if I lock the drag down on treble hook baits, I lose more fish than if I have my drag set softer. Single point hooks, unless I am fish light gear for drop shot/Ned rig in gin clear water, get a more robust drag setting.

    • @bkbaitsal4389

      @@jaypearce20 thanks I'll have to set drag lower on crankbaits then! 👍

    • @jaypearce20
      @jaypearce20 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bkbaitsal4389 that is one of the reasons I throw a whopper plopper on a spinning rod. It is way softer, I can cast it a mile, and no birds nests lol. I now have a medium power moderate action rod for cranking square ills but I definitely keep the drag backed off.

    I have a public pond near me which is where I learned to fish bass...
    The pond is extremely pressured.
    All the pressure is from people who just want to fill a white bucket w panfish...
    I've found an early morning spro poppin frog bite from 5am-630am or so. Then I've found 3 or 4 hot spots from shore where I can get a really good bite going throwing a jig/chunk and popping on bottom or casting/dragging a Texas rig.
    Once sun comes up the bite usually dies off.
    When the sun comes up and the slow drag bite dies off I throw a 3/8oz white/chart spinnerbait and sometimes I have a ton of success w it.
    It's an urban pond most people have given up on which works for me bc I know theres 6 and 7 lbers.
    The bass are eating bluegil mainly... any tips would be great.

Idk if I got a bad batch, but there are little bumps in the line every once in a while, and I've snapped off 30 lb test at the spool twice now when the line digs into itself and hardly backlashes. My bf and I were fishing our local pond in the dead of winter this past winter and a hunting dog was tracking a deer. The pond was frozen in most places (we still decided to take the boat out) the deer ended up jumping in the pond (frozen) and dredging through the ice all the way to the other side. 20 minutes later, the hunting dog shows up. Sniffs around where the deer jumped from and was acting like it wanted to jump in too. I had to keep hollering at the dog to go back. The deer made it and the dog finally left but talk about heart dropping...I was so worried the deer would be all cut up from the ice in the pond but he was just fine! Thank the Lord! Dude I’m struggling at my home lake. It’s getting so much pressure anymore it’s next to impossible to catch a fish. The lake is only 1400 acres. Everyday there is at least 100-150 boats out there fishing the same spots over and over again. It’s discouraging

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is brutal! We've lived it!! Your very best bet is to do something different. Ignore every other boat and just go fishing. Maybe night fish? Swimbait while they finesse or finesse while they swimbait. Whatever it takes to be different.
