I’ve been fighting this issue for around 12 hours after some problems with my battery terminals this morning. Came across your video while eating dinner and it solved my problem 100%. You absolutely made my night! Thank you for making this video!!! (Fyi it works on an 06 Hummer h3)

Thank you so much for sharing this!!! I've bought three new switches over the years not knowing there was an easy fix. It took me less than 10 minutes and it's working fine now.

    Excellent advice.
As an electrical engineer, GM's fix for this only had to be a couple of small resistors. Maybe 1000 ohms. That would help drain the caps somewhat quickly when power is removed.

Took my '06 Canyon Crew cab to the shop for a bunch of work, which was all done great...but when I went to pick it up the power door locks and driver's window switches wouldn't work. The mech tried several things to no avail. Then I came home and found your page, so I went out and did what you recommend. And now EVERYTHING WORKS FINE. I guess that he had to disconnect the battery for one of the other repairs and didn't realize the problems THAT caused. Thank you very much for your tip. It worked great!!

Thank you very much for this video. My window and locks came on immediately.Your fix didnt work alone by itself but the comments from other people did.l did what you said twice, but it was disconnecting my battery touching the leads together for 30 seconds and leaving them off the battery for 7 hrs. as well as shunting out the capaciters..l have a 2006 H3 and changed the battery and for 7 months didnt have driver window or doorlocks. You saved me a couple dollars of parts and labour.Previously l had dead battery boosted it and it took two weeks for the window and door locks to come back by themshelves at the same time.Hope this long story helps someone else.

Thank you for the extremely informative video. I had this problem due to the winter storm over Christmas weekend. My battery died, so I disconnected it & took it to my basement to charge. Sure, enough after I put the battery back in my '04 Canyon, I had the "no" locks, & "no" driver's window symptom. Watched & followed your video, it did the trick! Thanks for explaining this simple, but annoying fix. Thanks again!

I just followed this same advice. The first time it did not work. I used one of the screws as he described. I took it apart a second time and used a small piece of copper wire and connected it across the two prongs at the base of the capacitors instead of turning the board over and touching the two solder joints together. I think I even heard a quick snap from one of them but it was hard to tell. Anyway, upon reinstalling the assembly using this method everything worked. Thanks for posting this video.

Thanks for the video. This situation (couldn't lock the truck with the fob and the driver's side power window didn't work) occurred with my 2004 Chevy Colorado without replacing or disconnecting/reconnecting the battery. Your solution (draining the two capacitors in the driver side's power windows/power lock/side view mirrors' control circuit board) worked.

Battery went dead in the Polar Vortex deep freeze. Had the door lock and window issue pop up. After replacing the battery (it was 6 yrs old) and following this individuals instructions it immediately resolved the issue. Driver side window works again and I can remotely unlock and lock the truck again. Truck is a 2005 model, 4x4, z71 LS. Had bought it used a couple years ago. Mileage for this fix may vary but it corrected my issue. Thanks for the help wrstanton3.

I just had this problem today. I disconnected the positive and negative battery cables and touched them together for 10 - 15 seconds to ground out any lingering voltage. I'm not sure of the technical electrical jargon, but it worked! I started the truck, and the all the windows and door locks worked.

Worked for me, just now. Thanks. Caveat - I had to take it apart several times, turns out there are several loose plastic parts that fall out and have a required function for how the buttons physically activate, etc. I just kept moving the parts around trying not to break anything. Finally it worked. Bottom line is I don't have to drive my Colorado around in subzero Iowa weather with my windows down. Way to go!

I enjoyed your video, it is true, although I was not able to do it after 24-36 hours. I went out to do your recommendations and tried it one more time and everything worked. I guess the caps discharged due to moisture or normal leakage of the caps. Thank for the video, very good.

For me, the only thing that worked was disconnecting the battery cables and touching the positive and negative contacts together for a few seconds then I waited overnight before reconnecting them to the battery. Now the drivers' window and the power door locks work again. Thanks to all that posted the suggestions! You saved me a bunch of money by not taking it to a mechanic! I'm guessing it was like rebooting the computer and resetting everything.

A lot of times when I had my 2004 Colorado it would eventually go away by itself but it could take a week or longer. The dealer didn't seem to know the cause and assumed that I needed a new BCM but even after replacing the BCM it would still happen again including one time while driving home from the dealer.

After trying every bit of witchcraft and sorcery for nearly a month I remembered an old trick for fixing dead coils. Bake it at a low temp. Popped the window and lock circuit board in my toaster oven for 10 mins, popped it back in and it works like new. I suspect this is a temporary fix but it might be useful for someone who needs to get their window up.

This is a true and accurate fix however if you are just replacing the battery and you Find that your driver side window and door locks don't work and then you try this fix you are going to have too short the capacitors for at least 2 minutes apiece If you wait about 4 hours then you can do it with a screw just like this instructional video says. Anyway this fix is freakin amazing and it saved me hundreds of dollars from taking it back to the dealer

This procedure works, sometimes you need to do over more than once. After asking why hasnt this been a problem when the vehicle was new and from reseaching, it seems to have something to do with the two relays on the circuit board with the two capacitors.... they are the two black boxes and I think one is connected to the problem, but not sure which. After years of use and clicking on and off it appears for some reason when the battery goes dead the contacts in side freeze in place due to magnetism or the charge held in those capacitors... someone has said warming those two relays with a small space heater for 15-20 minutes also fixes the problem. I have done that and it worked but I also shunted the capacitors, so Im not sure that works alone... but I have had to the capacitor thing more than once at times..... the relays wearing out and causing this makes sense and after hearing new cheaper switches cause other problems I am considering trying to replace the two relays, I have found them online. If anyone has done this let us know how it went.....

Works. But I wonder if replacing the caps with better ones would keep it from happening. Seems like everytime I disconnect my battery it does this. (2006 crew cab) I'll be doing some research/tinkering will post if I find a permanent fix.

I have this exact issue. Going to give it a try. Update: Unfortunately this did not work for me on my 2006 Chevy Colorado. My driver window and all door locks still don't work. I attempted this 3 times using a flat blade screwdriver and screw head just as in video. I rocked the screw and/or screwdriver back and forth on the terminals on both capacitors several times. Grrr. I checked the passenger side as well and no capacitors on that side. I will try one more time with a jump wire but I am confident I did it right the first time. FYI, I do hear a click sound under dash when using remote.
