Thank Dano for this DETAILED & INFORMATIVE video. I love it when you show the text on your video saying it's NOT sponsored and you bought it with your own money. The 3 things that are the most helpful to me from this video are: First, you point out that Deity ecosystem is good because this device also works with Diety wireless audio system that uses UHF. Second, the included lavalier microphone Sounds Better than that of Tentacle. Third, its SD card can't be read after this recorder is plugged into a computer. The user has to go through these following steps: Turn on the lav mic > Menu > system > USB reader --- As of today, Nov. 1st, 2024, you're the ONLY TH-camr who mentions this disadvantage.
@@Dano-Media Hi Dano, I have one question please. How accurate is the time code generator of Tascam FR-AV2? In other words, after how many hours will the timecode drift and need to be reset? This information would benefit both your subcribers & viewers. Thanks.
@mauriciolee7349 That's a good question! Unfortunately I don't have the new Tascam recorder so I can't physically test it yet. However, sound recorders and cameras usually don't have very accurate timecode, so I'd always recommend connecting them to a timecode unit and leaving it connected for the full shoot. If you're unable to do that, then I'd recommend re-jamming timecode onto the recorder every 1 or two hours to be safe.
@@Q2Japan Hello! Yes, cameras don't have a very accurate timecode clock in them, so a timecode box like the TC1 is needed. Alternatively, the Deity PR2 can also be used as a timecode box. So if you have two of them but you're only using 1 lav, you can use the other PR2 on the camera as a timecode box. But the TC1 is smaller and cheaper. Cheers!
Hi, got a question: im a musician who HATES computers. I used yo own a nice studio jut nowadays i record with my boss micro br which runs with an sd card also. Do you know if itd be possible to edit the wav files in the boss micro br recorder once youve recorded them with the deity or the tentacle?. Thank you in advance.
Hi! Unfortunately I haven't used the Boss Micro BR recorder and don't know much about it, but, it does state on their website that they support MP3 & WAV formats: www.boss.info/us/products/micro_br/specifications/ However, I'm not sure if it supports the 32bit-float recording from the Deity/Tentacle. The best way to know is to try it or contact Boss directly.
5:22 plug the PR-2 in the computer with the PR-2 off and it should pop up automatically when its on you have to go to menu because there are multiple uses for the usb-c port
Doesn't work for me. When it's turned off and I connect the USB-C into it, the Deity just turns on. It doesn't prompt me the option to do what I want with the USB, I have to manually go through the menus to find the USB "read" option.
@@Dano-Media weird I just plugged mine in right now the device is completely off. The pr-2 stays off but the folder pops up and I can see all files without pressing anything on my pc.
@slcantu Well that's strange 🤨 I just tried it again and it didn't work, exactly as shown at 5:03. Maybe you're on a newer firmware that just came out? What version is your firmware?
Do you still recommend the Deity over the Tentacle. I just bought the Deity (arrives Thursday) for the purpose of powering my DPA 4062 lav to record loud engine exhausts on my race Ducati.
Yup! I fully switched from Tentacle to Deity. The only reason to stick to Tentacle is if you already have a lot of them which means you might lose a chunk of money if you sell them used and buy new Deity's. Other than that, there's nothing the tentacle can do that Deity can't.
Nice report, but: replace the word "lav mic" with "recorder", or the "Deity PR-2" .. you get a lavalier mic (the W.Lav Pro) with your recorder (the PR-2) ...

I wish camera companies would partner with companies like Deity and Tentacle Sync for BT timecode transfer support directly to BT in-camera.
That would save a lot of money on cables 💯
Hi there! So just to confirm, for using timecode on something like my Lumix S5ii, I'd have to buy the TC1 and the PR-2 together? Cheers!

@@Dano-Media thank you! And neat!
Interesting... thanks for posting.
I prefer to rename my files per project though. So this works for me.

I understood everything!

If they made an XLR version of this.... damn.
I would LOVE a Zoom H6/Zoom H4 alternative from Deity. I'd buy it in a heart beat.

It actually takes more steps than the Zoom H1 😅
