I can't wait to be able to use Toon Boom as efficiently as possible. I have such a cool animation project floating around in my head and I absolutely MUST bring it to life!!! It's like 3 minutes max but considering that I'm a pharmacist and picking this up as a hobby it's probably going to take me like two years to learn how to do everything and deliver the final thing. Wish me luck! Hope you are all looking forward to 2018 when my 3 minutes of awesome arrives! lol
DESK!!!! IT WAS CALLED A DESK ALL THIS TIME?! thank you so much. I have not touched toonboom in 4 years and i remember vaguely using this "desk" technique that i called "unpegging" back then. I use it to InBetween when the two Keyframes are sooo far apart that i fck up some drawing proportions if i didnt unpegg. Its been killing me that i couldnt find the right key word for it all this time, so anything that comes from the search result is anything but. Youre a life saver
could you please please please do a clean up tutorial?? Youre one of the only people whos online tutorials actually are easy to understand! PLEASE MAKE A CLEAN UP TUTORIAL! or if anyone knows if there is one by him please let me know!
Thanks for letting us know which versions of toonboom have the drawing desk, I just wasted the last hour of my life trying to find out why this wasn't working for me.
TVPaint is better for natural brushes and rough drawing (if you want a painterly animation for example) but I think Toon Boom Harmony is better for cleaned up animation personally. TVPaint really specializes in raster drawings whereas Toon Boom is mostly vector.
Hey ! You would love the new Shift and Trace feature! it's an updated Drawing Desk!! Also, you would totally be happy joining us on the official Toon Boom Discord ! discord.gg/HpgnVRU
I just got the trial of this. I want to take an animation class. I could get a masters in it. But, they teach with maya I think. haha Is that a thing? haha But, something drew me to this. It is expensive. MAN, is it expensive. But, everything is for good animation. So, I do believe, I will get the full version of this after the trial. I am excited to learn.
What version of Toon Boom is this? I did animation long time ago, I am now stuck with Photoshop for FpF animations but this Toon Boom really is looking cool. I would love to try it out and maybe manage to transfer my futre projects to TB. :) And it is very nicely delivered. Thanks and thumbs up!
Is there a way to disable the feature that auto smooths your lines when sketching in Toon Boom? I've been incredibly frustrated trying to find a way to turn this feature off. It's a massive deal breaker for me. I don't think I can use this software if it's always correcting my strokes.
thanks for this video i am just starting with my very own animation journey and learning by own really messes with head. But watching this video of yours gave a really good insight. But i wonder which application you are using, as i am new to all this, exploring various applications trying to find out a best for 2D animation.
I'm guessing you just are not familiar with some of the terminology like in-betweens, breakdowns etc? From what I can tell it's trying to emulate working on paper. the rest of it is just drawing as if you're making a flipbook.
Would it be okay for a person to bring toon boom animated movies just to bring to the animated movies put back on the big screen as long as it has likable characters good animation and seriousness? And also out of the purpose of wanted to do animation as a hobby?
This is amazing! But, do to too many complications of my lack of information on how to use this, I will try to use Flash animation, on which I have the basics down.
So I'm interested in purchasing this course but I'm curious. There are 3 levels of Toon Boom Harmony. If I have the Essentials version, am I still going to be able to get the most out of this course? Thanks much :D
You will be able to get quite a lot from this course with Essentials. He uses Advanced in this tutorial, BUT most of the course is done using Essentials and Advanced features. For example, he does not use the Node view to create the Rig or to add effects, he does those all in the timeline View, which is how you would do it in Essentials and Advanced From what I can tell here are the topics that you will not be able to follow along with if you have Essentials... Shift & Trace workflow - not available in essentials Curve and Envelope deformers ( but you can follow Bone deformers) Morphing - According to TB.com Essentials does not have Morphing Capabilities Timing columns (Xsheet) - not a big deal you can use the timeline. Inverse kinematics - nobody uses IK anymore Other than that you are good.
Excellent video sir. I currently have Toon Boom 8, will I have any problems if I buy your "Toon Boom Harmony course" and don't have the latest Toon Boom Software? Plus I also do hand drawing, does TB support scanned images or do you explain that in your course?
Hi, I really like the look of your course and I'm looking to buy. I'm an ex professional paper and pencil 2d animator looking to get back on the horse. I notice toonboom is a monthly license with a 3 tiered structure. There seems to be a lot of remote work around. Given that I'm learning, what package do I start with? Once I'm comfortable, what do I need to upgrade to? Thanks so much.
I notice you have a course for both Toon Boom and Flash. I want to purchase one but am unsure which one would be more friendly to someone completely fresh to the world of animation. I have zero experience with these software as all I have ever used are Sketchbook Pro. Which of the two courses would you recommend for someone wanting to get their feet wet in the world of 2D animation?
I'm no expert but I would recommend for a straight beginner to try photoshop first. It's great for understanding the basics of animating before jumping into animating for real. Try one of their free trials and get the feel for the program. After that, I would recommend doing a free trial for Flash and ToonBoom and see which you're more comfortable with. I just got Toon Boom myself and I was able to navigate it fairly well without too much trouble.
Just A Heads Up, Can ToonBoom take a file from a different program such as Sai To Animate? Like Transporting A File from a different program To Animate or Do You Have To Animate The Drawing All In One Program? I Made a few drawings for my Project that I want to animate but I'm Unsure if it'll take the Drawing On A Program Like This.
Always remember to repent of your sins (sin is transgression of YAHUAH’S LAW: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, & Deuteronomy) And Have Belief On YAHUSHA HAMASHYACH. HE Died and Rose Again On The Third Day So that you can be forgiven of your sins! HE Loves you! Come to HIM!🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
if anyone's interested in doing an animation I'd be willing to help, I dont have a computer atm so it'll have to drawn 2d the converted over Sooner or later
I use Traditional Animation, I do Animazini, I don't Draw Digitally, I only use Traditional Art which is the FUTURE! If I Draw Digitally I Would Lose My Uniqueness. Why don't you try drawing in traditional art? Don't Despise Traditional Design, It May Surprise You Much. -Stefered-
Wow, this is expensive. I had Adobe for a bit. I was paying student prices. I never used any of the programs. I’ve been thinking about getting their animation again. But, this is just animation. I wonder who this is, vs flash? But man, that price. Remember when you could just buy something and it didn’t cost $2000? Haha

This is great!! I had no idea about the desk feature! Great tutorial and very clearly explained! :)
You've gotta make more toon boom harmony 12 tutorials.
Oh hey man, nice seeing you here lol
littlemonkey246able ikr?
JESSE!! Thank for the tutorial on toon boom my dream if an animator will come true :D
I came here straight from your toon boom tutorial haha. It was very helpful by the way
I've wanted to try Toon Boom one day, I'll save this video when I do get the program. Thank you for this tutorial!

I know that this video is a bit long when it comes to tutorials, but it has helped a lot for a good resource

Thanks for letting us know which versions of toonboom have the drawing desk, I just wasted the last hour of my life trying to find out why this wasn't working for me.
It's interesting to see how animation is done in this program, although I much prefer TVPaint.
TVPaint is better for natural brushes and rough drawing (if you want a painterly animation for example) but I think Toon Boom Harmony is better for cleaned up animation personally. TVPaint really specializes in raster drawings whereas Toon Boom is mostly vector.
I'm a Opentoonz user. But I found this video very instructive.
Know this is awesome!
7:46 finally what I'm here for "frame by frame".
What program did you draw the background in? its a real nice style, does it have a name? Kind of reminds me of old hannabarbera cartoons
Am I the only one that really want to make animation, but can't stand tutorials because it's so boring and complicated to watch?
That's me to
try watching mental ray or zbrush tutorials.
no
you're not alone, bro. But sometimes we've gotta fight off the laziness and JUST DO IT!!!! ;-;
no not really but ,use adobe flash ,its more noob friendly
*_SUPER!_* Good tips and art example.

old school better than new animations ...
Iv paid for this course.
Do someone knows about more professional frame by frame (characters motion in-between) , in boom harmony?
Soon as I learn to use this after I buy it I’m gonna make a movie

Hola, pudiste solucionar tu problema?
yes

But i wonder which application you are using, as i am new to all this, exploring various applications trying to find out a best for 2D animation.
Fun fact: this animation software was used for the infamous Drawn together movie: the movie.
Uggh it seems soo complicated!
Yea, like your face!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dat face though....XD
I'm guessing you just are not familiar with some of the terminology like in-betweens, breakdowns etc? From what I can tell it's trying to emulate working on paper. the rest of it is just drawing as if you're making a flipbook.
animation is complicated
This is the traditional method.
How come the desk feature doesn't show up on mine?
Nice, thanks you, really good.

@@bmk6686 Thanks.
I like it
Do you need advanced or premium Harmony for the course?
I have toonboom 8.1is that possible to do this like you did in this video??? 🙂
This is amazing! But, do to too many complications of my lack of information on how to use this, I will try to use Flash animation, on which I have the basics down.
📜wery good nice work :)

What is the best toon boom for beginners?
Toon Boom Essentials

Plus I also do hand drawing, does TB support scanned images or do you explain that in your course?
May i ask about the background, did you draw directly in toon boom?
the background is super nice
Hello guys, can you buy any ready characters and background, and do a short animation or do u have to draw everything your self??
To make it even easier try to buy one that has the backgrounds & characters drawn and already animated with the voices done already.
Hi, I really like the look of your course and I'm looking to buy.
I'm an ex professional paper and pencil 2d animator looking to get back on the horse.

guys, help me pls!, I can’t find the button that duplicates the frame
option clicking ? holding alt or ctrl is not working for me for doing this. so to learn from this i guess i have to get a MAC
rename by framenumber is also not an option :(
are you using the most expensive package there is ?
Thanks im not so much familiar with the sheets . I will try again .:)

I Made a few drawings for my Project that I want to animate but I'm Unsure if it'll take the Drawing On A Program Like This.
will you cover how to work with the network?, I never undrstood it since i bought animate pro a couple of years ago.
Wow you actually bought toon boom, what are you rich xDDD
+Kayzz Animations naw, I have animate pro, saving up to get harmony
***** oh
Kayzz Animations by the way if you are a student you can get ... A massive discount www.studica.com/ToonBoom
This seems to move a little too fast to follow and learn. Is there a slower more basic intro available?
Can you also use Photoshop?
do you have the opacity option in Toon Boom harmony
Is the program TV Paint?
no, it is toon boom harmony it is on the title
really nice tutorial, but could use some music on the sections where it's just process...
anyone tell me what is the option key on @3:05
alt on windows
On a Mac the Alt key is called Option key.
I prefer the old school pencil and paper method of creating my animations.
Can I port previous projects into new ones in Toon Boom Harmony? I can in OpenToonz.
umm when i do a next frame it doest show my last fram it sucks
You have to enable onion skin.
Helpful but how to have character colored in all frames?
That's simple i think.
It's just take time.
I guess it'll took hours of work for 1 scene just for a few seconds if you work alone.
i cant really figure out onion skin like you have it. i clicked on all the stuff fot it but its not working
hmmm.. it won't play for me, it just stays stuck on one frame..
anybody know how to fix this?
which is the "option key"? I cant find the Desk menu!
Win Pc, right? I suppose is the Alt key... or the one with the Windows logo on it...
I'm so utterly confused... How did you get those frames on the left side of your screen? My version doesn't have that...
it's called xsheet.
go to windows and find it.
How did you get your onion skin like that? Mine is so messed up. I have TB harmony premium.
You probably have the advanced onion skin on. It shows a lot more than you would normally need.
Which Toon Boom is this?
Harmony 12, bro and probably premium
David Saah Thank you
ko-jokai You really had no idea? I'm glad I told ya
David Saah I'm new to Toon Boom never really used it.
ko-jokai oh. well, good luck! Need any info, just look me up! :D

Haha
why you call it Panda, he is far away to be a Panda Bear?
Heitor Maia This is a red panda, the panda that you call a "panda bear" is actually just a bamboo bear, this the real thing.
"FRAM-BY-FRAME" ...?
yes
It just means you draw the individual frames.
Micah Buzan
ONE-BY-ONE ;-;
I could be a really good animator if I could find other people to do the drawing and let me act as the director.
Then you wouldn't be an animator, you'd be an art director, those are two different occupations.
Southjaw Video so you would be a director, not an animator.
do you have the opacity option in Toon Boom harmony
for layers ? then yes
