Years ago we did a family “girls trip” to Asheville in November. Everything was decorated for the holidays and the mansion and grounds were stunning. Highly recommend going at holiday time if you want to retur
Sounds delightful!
Thank you for mentioning the real meaning of Memorial Day.🇺🇸
Of course!
Thank you, Marnie for honoring those who gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today❤
I appreciate your patriotism! It’s so nice to hear people like yourself not afraid to show their love for this country. 🙂🙂🙂🙂
Marnie, how could you go all that way and NOT go in the big house? Honey! You have to go back! The inside is absolutely opulent, with amazing architecture and a stunning art collection. It's a fairy tale.
I've been an annual pass holder for 20 years. I go at least 4 times a year.
Was thinking the same thing. Lol
Thank you for mentioning that we honor Memorial Day, and all the people who have sacrificed their lives for us. Thank you!
Carolina Native, and you should absolutely go back at Thanksgiving/Christmas! You can do daytime Christmas at Biltmore with a daytime ticket or candlelight at night. It's even more breathtaking ❤
I think I need to do both!
Thank you Marnie for mentioning Memorial Day as it was intended, by honoring those who gave their lives for our freedoms we have today. 🇺🇸
Your trip looked amazing and glad you enjoyed!
I will never forget!!
Thank you for mentioning those who died for our freedom. 🇺🇸
Our flag is flying! Thank you for honoring our hero’s at the top of this video. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
You are such a beautiful soul, Marni!
I visited the Biltmore Estate many 30 years ago. I loved it! It’s such a great place to visit. I’m just a huge history fanatic. I was a teacher at the time and had the opportunity to visit many historical places in the south during the summer months. Thank you for the video and reminding us of the true meaning of Memorial Day. 🇺🇸
Greater love has no one than this, that a person will lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13.
Shalom.
Traveler alert! I don’t travel much, but twice when I was boarding the plane with my carry on, it was whisked away from me and was told it would be stored in the luggage hold of the plane. Both times it was lost and returned to me the day I was returning home. I ended up at my location with nothing, no meds, clothing or make up. Do not depend on that bag making it at the other end of your trip! Yes, I learned a lesson and pack necessities and a change of clothes in my “tuck under” bag.
Yes, Marnie, thank you for preempting with the real meaning of Memorial Day. It breaks my heart that many here in our country don’t know the difference between Memorial Day when we honor the fallen and the sacrifices made for our freedom and Veterans Day when we show gratitude for those who served or are currently serving our great country 🇺🇸 Too many ignore Veterans Day completely because we don’t customarily plan time off and cookouts then same think Memorial Day is just the kickoff to summer.
Wonderful commentary. We love the Biltmore Estate. I live about an hour from there and we are annual pass holders. It truly is amazing in the summer with outdoor activities, the fall is breathtaking with the landscapes all colorful, but I highly encourage you to go at Christmas time. The house decor is fabulous and the holiday meals at the on-site restaurants are divine. If you can do both a daytime and a candle light house visit you will see and enjoy different things on each tour. So glad you had an amazing time.
I've heard great things about the candle light tours!
We live in Asheville! It's a great place to call home! Come in the Fall - the leaves are gorgeous and the weather is perfection!
❤🇺🇸❤🇺🇸❤ thank you for your message, your heart and your videos! SO glad you had fun, western North Carolina is very beautiful.
What a fun time. Thanks for taking us along.
I'm so grateful you're here !
And I'm grateful that you are here!
Love this!
Thank you for sharing and for mentioning honoring our fallen soldiers for their sacrifice for our freedoms!
I live and hour and a half south of Asheville and have been to Biltmore. It is, indeed, as most of the comments on here say, magical at Christmas time! Highly encourage a visit during that season. Loved your recap of your weekend. So happy you experienced our southern hospitality and cuisine, but best of all, you gave a shoutout to cheese grits!! LOL!
I live in Taylors SC
@@ginatate9184 I'm in Spartanburg, SC!
OMG cheese grits...I would eat them every day if I could!!
@@MsGoldgirl Right?!
Definitely go again Christmas time to tour the mansion now that you have seen the grounds and everything else. You get the same audio tour and see everything you would normally see on the house tour, but get to see the decorations (like 70 decorated trees PLUS other decorations) and the gift shops have Christmas decorations/themes. We did that and then made the rest of our trip going to see plantations/history stuff around NC and SC. (Weather is mild in Dec.)
You have to go at Christmas, it is beautiful! They have pictures of the house being built and how. It was amazing to me at that time how it was built. I really enjoyed this video. Ive been to Biltmore several times but not so much the area.
Christmas @ Biltmore is a MUST see! The place is magical.
WDW used to be magical. Biltmore not only is authentic but curated with much American history.
Oh Marnie, I really enjoyed this. It brings back so many memories. I took my mother there twice…once in the spring and a second time in the Christmas season. We too stayed at the Inn at Biltmore. Loved the dining room experience, high tea mid afternoon and shopping in Asheville. The gardens were spectacular. I’m 73 and I still have her (age 102) but she is completely bedridden and doesn’t know us. In any case our trips were great and we both have those good memories to carry in our hearts. Thanks for bringing us along.
I'm so glad you have the memories!! We didnt' get to do high tea, and that is now on my bucket list!
I really like videos like this for something different. Friends of mine went to the Biltmore this past Christmas and said it was stunning. It's on my list of places to visit!
Christmas at the Biltmore is magical. You must do the candlelight tour of the Biltmore at Christmas. Just beautiful.
Biltmore is my Disney. I have been at least 50 times and never have been disappointed. You definitely need to go back and stroll through the house. If you can time it right to see the tulips or the azaleas, they are absolutely stunning. Horseback riding is wonderful, grab yourself some sandwiches from the Creamery and enjoy a picnic up by the Diana overlooking the house and there are special behind the scenes tours of areas not regularly seen on the standard walking tour. Christmas is special, especially the candlelight tour and the 50+ trees decorated in the house. Really, seeing the transformation of the house and gardens throughout the year is something else. ❤
We lived an hour from Asheville when my husband and I were students. We could go to Biltmore for the day with a student discount for a reasonable price. We went every season. Each season offers it's own version of spectacular! OUR FAVORITE TIME TO VISIT is early November. It is cool but not cold and there is no snow. On one trip we went at the end of October. At that time we had no idea that they decorate the house for Christmas by the first weekend in November. When we went to tour the house, they were bringing the 35' long Christmas Tree (for the dining room) down the drive to the house using horses and a long cart!! We watched them arrive, get the tree off the cart, carry it into the house, and put it in place! It is still one of our favorite memories of Biltmore!
What a coincidence! We just returned yesterday from vacationing in the Smokies, during which time we spent a day at the Biltmore. It was my 3rd visit there, always in the spring which is, as you said, the very best time to visit. We also had lunch at the Creamery and I had the same sandwich as you…sooo yummy. When you return, be sure to tour the house. It’s so impressive and chock full of history. For those who enjoy wine, the winery at Antler Hill Village is definitely worth a stop. Thanks for sharing your trip. It was fun to be reminded of our visit there and to see some of the things we didn’t have time for.
We lived close to Raleigh which is a little more than a 4 hour drive to Asheville so we bought yearly passes to the Biltmore. Stayed at the Grove Park Inn several times. Always the best time with stunning tours, food, scenery. No matter what time of year we went we were never disappointed . Afternoon tea in the library at the Inn at Biltmore is quite the experience and the breakfast or dinner buffet at the Grove Park should not be missed! We took full advantage of the short drive to Asheville and have done the area very well.❤️
The Inn and all of the Biltmore Estate is one of my absolute favorite places to visit.
We lived in Greenville, SC and had annual membership for the estate; so, we visited at least six times each year. It is indeed a magical place. Christmas is a wonderful time to visit. Easter/Spring is as well with all of the spring florals and decor. We loved the Inn at Biltmore but was last there about five years ago. We now live in the DFW area in Texas. Always look forward to and enjoy your TH-cam presentations. I take advantage of so many of your tips and recommendations. Thank you for sharing this; it brought back memories of our visits there.
Asheville is one of my favorite places, always stay at the Inn. It does need some renovations, but it gets you on the Estate and is magical.
The Biltmore is an American treasure…and Asheville is a beautiful, artsy city. It definitely warrants multiple visits.
Absolutely!
Marnie! Yes, you definitely don't want to miss Christmas at Biltmore! Tickets go very early, fall is too late. The grounds were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted that did Central Park in NYC. See if you can find last Christmas' recording of them bringing in the Christmas tree! I have been in the house over 100 times for myself as new rooms have been opened and with Interior Design students. I am the great grandaughter of the master carpenter of Biltmore House. Air Force 1 has landed here twice for a president to eat at well known Corner Kitchen in a house over 100 years old in with the Lavendar Marinated Chicken Salad. Ask for extra marinade, the present chef makes it too dry. They are in Biltmore Vilage. You totally missed one of our biggest treasures, the Folk Art Center that sells real mountain art by permanently juried artists only from the Appalachian Mts. These items are done in the methods of the 1800's. Nothing is manufactured! The weaver often raises the animals, cards the fur, spins on large spinning wheels and weaves your item on a big settle.
FYI Christmas tickets are up. They don't last.
🇺🇸 may all the fallen soldiers be RIP in the hereafter with our Lord 🙌🏼 it sounds absolutely incredible & you looked beautiful as ever 😍 best wishes to Mrs Sara Jane 💛👏
Amen!
thank you for taking us with you. this vid was perfection...even without Rowdy you managed to give us a doggie pic...🐑🐑🐶
Boy did we miss him-so many people had their dogs on the estate!
Loved this video! So fun to see the outfits incorporated into a travel vlog!
So glad you enjoyed your trip! I grew up in the area and have visited Biltmore many times. The candlelight Christmas tour is magical and it doesn't snow in Asheville now nearly as often when I was a kid, so you should try to go back at Christmas. The lights, ornaments, trees and decor, you will love it. Plus you can see the Conservatory full of poinsettias.
I love all those lights-definitely something I'd want to come back to see!
We did this trip in April, drove from New Orleans where we live. Beautiful scenic drive. Biltmore Estate did not disappoint , it is truly a one of a kind place.
Thanks for taking us along on your adventure. It feels like I’ e seen it now and I’d like to see more!
You should go visit!
Please do more travelogue videos! Fun and gave me ideas for the future file. I’m already looking forward to the Vermont trip!
I have a short trip to LA, Vermont in August and Dallas in September! Already planning the videos!
You and husband look great together. Never saw him before. Y'all seem really happy.
Loved that dress, adding it to my cart ❤
Happy Memorial Day Marnie! Please thank Michael for his service. I have many vets in my family and I'm so proud of their legacy.....God, family and country ❤️ btw, great vid. No worries, I'm still ordering away! Dang it Marnie, you look so good in everything! I have a whole closet of Avara, Walmart, Nordstrom, Chicos etc....all thanks to you 😂
Thank you Lisa!
Thank you for honoring the true meaning of Memorial Day 🇺🇸 One of my daughters and her family have just moved from Tx to NC and we are visiting the state for the first time over the July 4th holiday. I am looking forward to seeing Asheville as well as the mountains and ocean.
I have to say my heart is with Texas, but NC is a pretty cool state. They have us beat with the mountains AND nice beaches!
Oh my gosh this took me on a trip in the way Way WAY back machine!!! in the mid-1970s, my family moved to Flat Rock, NC and my dad was the winter caretaker for the historic Woodfield Inn (which breaks my heart at its current state😢😢) and we lived in the Inn for the entire winter. What an amazing experience for a little kid, and thank god it was before The Shining! Then we moved to Saluda and lived on Lake Sheila. Every visitor that came was treated to a trip to Asheville to the Biltmore Garden Estate!!! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!
and I truly hope something wonderful will happen for Woodfield Inn........
What a cool childhood memory!
The grounds of the Biltmore Estate were designed by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted who also designed Central Park in NewYork City. As you mentioned the grounds are amazing! Loved your vlog of your trip, please do more!!!!❤
And he designed Washington University, where my husband went to law school! Now I understand why it's so pretty there!
Thanks for sharing! The Biltmore Estate is magical and the many interior tours of the mansion are not to be missed. Truly a Downtown Abbey moment. Not to mention the Great Hall during Christmas. I was there in late October when they were decorating for the holidays. It was magical! It is still family owned and they use it on occasions…..I can only imagine being a guest there! ❤️
We're definitely planning on coming back to devote several days to INSIDE the house!
Perfect weekend! HOWEVER….YOU REALLY SHOULD GO BACK AT CHRISTMAS! Since you didn’t see the actual Biltmore House, it is at its very best at Christmas! You won’t miss the beauty of the grounds, and you’ll get to experience a different season in beautiful Asheville! Most likely you won’t have snow before Christmas, and if you did it would be light! CONGRATS TO SARA JANE!
Noted!!
@@MsGoldgirl 😉😁❤️
Oh…and Grove Park has a big display of gingerbread houses during the holidays! 🎄
Love, love, love Sara Jane💜 So happy for her. What a fabulous time!!
It always boggles my mind to think that the gorgeous Biltmore estate is still a privately owned place. It’s so amazing!
I know!! But what an overhead!!
So happy you loved Asheville. It is my home and I loved seeing your interest and admiration for my beautiful hometown!
It's so pretty-you live in a pretty special place!
Thank you and thank you for your wonderful channel. You are an inspiration to women over 50! Just beautiful!
Also, as a Christian to my Jewish sister in this tumultuous time. May the Lord "our Lord" bless you and keep you, may he make his face to shine upon you, and give you peace.
Yes - love that you mentioned Memorial Day, our fallen service members, and all that we have to be thankful for here in the US.
Love the pink top and jewelry on you Marnie - you just get even prettier over time! 💕🌸
Thank you!
In the fall and winter, as well as summer, there are carriage rides that take you around the outer parts of the estate land. Breathtaking views.
Marnie thank you so much for coming to our wedding. It was so nice to hear about your magical weekend! I was so happy Colton and I got to spend a little time with you on Friday. You definitely need to come back to Asheville for the holidays and see all of the decorations. We'll meet you up there! :)
I really enjoyed this. I have been planning this same trip with my husband. I Love Chihuly and the Biltmore is on my bucket list. Thank you for acknowledging Memorial Day
You will love it!
Thank you Marnie, for acknowledging Memorial Day❤❤❤
Welcome to NC! My daughter married at the Grove Park Inn also. We live about 3 hours away and we are going there in a few weeks! 😊 a great book…fiction…about the construction of the Biltmore Estate in the 1890s. Built by the Vanderbilt family. "Under a Gilded Moon" by Joy Jordan-Lake.
NC girl here, so glad you enjoyed our state! Biltmore is amazing and a favorite of ours. Christmas time is my favorite there. Each room is decorated and gorgeous. Even if you do not celebrate Christmas it’s a sight to behold! Don’t skip the audio portion of the tour, lots of interesting historical info shared. If you do come back in spring, make sure you take time to explore the Parkway. It’s beautiful countryside and a fun drive. Also consider staying at one of the many bed and breakfasts in the area. There are so many gorgeous historical homes that have been turned into B&Bs. The Black Walnut is where Sandra Bullock stayed during her time filming in Asheville years ago!
I love Christmas decorations-I can't wait to go back one day!
I love the Biltmore Estate and have been there 3 times. The house is breathtaking! The grounds are fabulous. We will be going back in the future because it’s one of my favorite places on Earth.
absolutely loved this video. I want to pack my bags now and go on a trip.
I'm so glad you loved it!
Been there for christmas and it was stunning! No snow
Memorial day, what an honor to call this country ours, at the expense of those who sacrificed to give it to us. Thank you, Marnie, for that. Also, Asheville is my stomping grounds! We moved here about 19 years ago, before I-26 was a wide as it is, lol. Outdoor concerts at Biltmore are the BEST (and the fireflies are here! ) I am so glad you loved this beautiful area, and if you come again, I am sure your viewers here would love to do a "thing"❤
What a fabulous adventure for you and your husband. We live about 30 minutes from the Biltmore and have annual passes so we go often. They have so many things to do, there is a great wine tasting and the stable area near the “house” has lots to see. We go all the time for a walk or just to enjoy the beautiful scenery. There are so many great vistas and the food is wonderful. We like to sit outside at Cedric’s and enjoy the live music on the weekends. You should visit in November to see the Christmas decorations, the weather is usually mild. You can have dinner at the Stable Cafe and do the night time tours.
If you ever go back, Lake Lure & Chimney Rock are nearby
We would have to stay at least 2 weeks to see all the things nearby!
Wow! You need to start recommending trips! I really want to see Ashville now! Also, as a soldier's mom, I really appreciate your acknowledgement of Memorial Day. Love your style!
Thank you for your family's service!
We used to live about an hour away from Asheville and went many times. You definitely need to visit around the “holidays” and take the time to tour the mansion. It’s a bit chilly but not “cold” at that time of year and you will love it. We actually visited the day after Thanksgiving (which is the busiest day of the year 😳). It was SO organized that you didn’t notice how crowded it was. The trees and decorations are amazing and the entire place is transformed into something magical! Glad you had such a nice time.
We were there for Christmas season and loved it! We are going back this year. We were still able to explore the property but since it was a short visit we are going back. I just LOVED the place. I also enjoyed all the history of Biltmore and the family. I would recommend everyone to see it!
I'm from NC and the Biltmore estate is one of our treasures. So glad you got to experience it.
It is a treasure!
I love how grateful you are for your beautiful life! The Biltmore sounds incredible- and thank you for sharing all about your journey! ❤
So very grateful!!
The Biltmore estate is beautiful! Thanks for sharing you wonderful weekend!
Sounds like a lovely long weekend away and a beautiful wedding. Loved all your outfits.
We toured the Biltmore last year. It is a must for everyone. Truly amazing mansion.
Thanks for sharing. Sounds wonderful.
The grounds at the Biltmore remain one of my favorites. Frederick Law Olmsted helped design it and he outdid himself. It's magical just driving in.
Yes he did! He also designed the campus where Michael went to law school (among a lot of other amazing places)!
That looks like a fantastic trip! Thank you for sharing. ❤
Glad you enjoyed Asheville. I agree it’s a beautiful place. Christmas there is always spectacular! Don’t know if you love mountains as much as I do but if you ever get the opportunity to go to Washington state go! I just went to visit my grandson in Leavenworth for a couple of days. I’m 68 and have traveled quite a bit. The view there was the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. It’s magical.
Also, thank you for reminding us about what Memorial Day is truly about.
I LOVE the mountains but when we went to Taos last fall, I got horrible altitude sickness. I'm hoping to get some medicine so I can go back to the higher elevations one day! I've never been to that part of Washington but Rowdy is from the mountains of Washington-Michael had to drive through them to get him!
Thank you for taking us along on your beautiful Biltmore weekend
Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines ❤
As an aside,
We had brunch at 1927 Lake Lure Inn (NC) in April and it was quite lovely too. I had on a cute outfit but some were in everyday super casual.
This one burly motorcycle overall-wearing dude returned to his table of equally dressed and sized men, and said, "I got red pepper and Gouda soup."
His table mate said, "What's that soup?"
Burly guy said, "Red pepper and Gouda, can you believe it? I've never had it before."
A second or two passed.
Burly guy, "This is some good shit."
😂😄🥣
(And it was, I had some too based on his reaction.)
