I think what I love the most about this video is that most people that have that much money they just pay to have someone put a theater together. This guy know all about it
@@Coffeedad so true, usually it’s like build me something and then it’s just a checkbox on a list of things to own. This guy loved his theater so much from choosing the type of rubber idolaters to having bar chairs custom wrapped with the same leather the theater seats were made out of… to even writing a book. So impressive.
I totally agree. I knew you guys would really appreciate how involved Robert was in the entire process. Also, he has guest over almost every week to enjoy his theater together with others.
Exactly. I used to be surprised by people who have expensive really impressive theaters who would say they didnt really know what equipment was in it as the builders chose all that. I'm like, LOL seriously? I would be involved in every level of the process, most especially the equipment choices. These same people are ones who use their theater may 2 or 3 times a year 😆 I use mine daily. There might be at most, 2 or 3 days out of a month where I dont use it.
@@Coffeedad I’m not handy one bit and would need to pay people to build it for me but I at least know tech specs and hardware I could put together a list of what I want without a dealer trying to upcharge me on my ignorance.
I absolutely appreciate the true enthusiast who knows what went into their system, but we also have to realize there are those that are very wealthy that want a nice system, but they have zero desire to be an enthusiast. They just want an amazing system to be able to watch great movies. There’s nothing wrong with that either.
I told him my audience was really going to appreciate that. It’s one thing just to write a check. It’s another thing to be intimately involved in the entire process.
One of your best video yet. The owner of that home theatre has given a lot of good tips for my own project, because I’m going to build a room in a existing room to decoupling it from the neighbours next to me. Absolutely stunning home theatre.
I will never be able to have this kind of cinema at home, so to see something that one can dream is amazing. The level of detail, aesthetics, engineering, architecture, and passion is beyond your average Joe. Thanks Youthman for transporting us to this incredible space!
So, Money CAN buy happiness! Incredible theater and a great video. Really enjoyed the interviews with the owner and all the professionals involved. Great job by all!
Your creation of this video, the interviews and overall presentation is absolutely world class in keeping with this world class home theater. I've watched a lot of your videos and this tops them all. Congratulations. This is the most beautiful, well-built home theater that I have ever seen. The millwork, design and every aspect of this build are absolutely stunning. This to me is absolute perfection. The homeowner is to be congratulated for achieving his ultimate dream.
Thank you so much for the kind words Tom. This was by far the largest tour and video project I’ve ever worked on, but I’m very proud of how well it turned out.
I loved the final thought from Robert about his theater being a place to bring people in to and share it with. I’ve spent years building up my gear and over that time, I was slowly achieving what I truly wanted out of a theater. The house we recently bought a few years ago allowed me to build out a dedicated room. It is a hidden place that I too thoroughly enjoy bringing people in to. Nobody ever leaves without a smile on their face. I truly believe that is the greatest thing we as enthusiasts all share as a quality. We enjoy sharing with others what we have built.
What an amazing home theater. The soundproofing is what i love keeping the sound in his room with no bleeding of sound throughout the house I love that Ah, this is what i would do
This puts you in a state of awe, the engineering, the high level craftsmanship, the creative and cerebral intelligence/ thinking that went behind this, is brilliant!
Masterpiece buddy. Not just a phenomenal home theater, but an excellent video with an engaging host that highlights everything from A to Z. Excellent job.
Excellent video! There was a metric ton of information packed into this hour and a half video. It was quite the informative watch. What a state of the art and beautiful theater!
I agree! Sarah has been with us for several years and continuosly refines the art of private cinema interior design. It is one of the keystones of Paradise Theater that "everything matters" and aesthetics matters a great deal to our clientele. What also matters a great deal is how the aesthetics and the performance are integrated. The entire team of masters we are blessed with at Paradise Theater work diligently to strike that balance every time. However The Van Cave project also enjoyed a rare element. That being a client that was engaged and willing to do what it took to achieve this level of excellence. He truly made this project team a dream team!
Very well done and executed. STC 114(!). The millwork is amazing. I very much appreciate the time and effort that went into this exquisite theater. My background is broadcast, recording, and live sound. My humble home listening room reflects this. I did the room-within-a-room (STC 60), acoustic-rated doors. The outer room is solid-pour concrete, 6" thick, including floor and ceiling. Back wall is actually the concrete wall, with drywall mud texture slapped on top of the raw concrete, then painted. Very lively and pleasantly reflective. Dedicated 120A 3-phase panel. Simple setup otherwise, B&W 801 speakers, Crown Studio Reference amps. Biamp Nexia DSP. That's it. The majority of tuning of the system is physical, with speaker placement, alignment, and room tuning with furnishings, coverings, millwork, and some traps. The DSP is there for sweetening, but there's also a mechanical bypass. People often accuse the room of having subwoofers, surround, and center channels, but it's just a straight 2-channel system.
Thank you, kindly brother. That’s definitely was by far the most extensive video I have edited thus far. But I’m very pleased at how well it turned out.
I’ve never been to Texas and I’ve never met Robert, but I feel like I’ve just been a guest at his fabulous theatre. Thank you Michael for this wonderful in-depth presentation!
What a theater eh?! Absolutely stunning craftsmanship, hats off to Robert and the team who pulled vision together. Thanks for sharing with us Michael, im sure this too some time! God Bless 🙏
Wow Michael! You have outdone yourself. This is your best Home Theater review to date. This is the most comprehensive description of a state of the art build on the Internet that covers the full timeline from concept to completion. I salute Robert & Elizabeth Vanman for fulfilling their passion in building this dream theater over a span of 5 years. If I had to make one change, I would replace the Sony VPL-VW5000ES projector with the Barco Njord Cinemascope projector ($104,995). It is almost twice as bright at 9,000 Lumens.
Thank you for the kind words. If you’d like the barcode, definitely check out Christie. I personally never liked the Barco Njord. The black levels are way too high for that expensive of a projector. Two years ago at Audio Advice Live they had one set up and I turned around to see if a window was open. Nope completely light control room.
Great video Michael. I'm most impressed by the planning and level of engineering that went into the sound isolation construction to achieve the NC-5 rating. Having constructed my own sound isolated room, I know very well what goes into it. And this was many levels beyond what I did. Bravo to Robert and his team!
THANK YOU Youthman!!! I'm sure this was alot of work but man, YOU NAILED IT! I will watch this many times and will be just as excited after 20 views! One problem. How are you going to top it??
Thanks for bringing this content Michael.. Absolutely breathtaking house and theater. So much detail. I am a big fan of your channel. Love from Canada 🇨🇦
You outdid yourself with this video!💯 To have the Owner,Theater Builder,Interior Designer,Acoustical Engineer interviewed is priceless for your audience. I definitely know what it takes to deliver the best audio/video movie experience. Now I want to see someone's Theater top this one!😂 Great Job loved the video. When you have content like this it's never too long!💯💖 The Old Man!🧑🏾🦲 Julius🙋🏾
Omg this is the crown jewel of home theater build and presentation. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing that incredible realisation. What a great idea to produce this amazing book and share it to the world. Nice legacy!
Some guys are just trying to build a good DIY projector screen, others want the best high-end equipment available, but I'd like to be in the 'buys my own grove of trees from Canada' commitment level of home theatre. I don't even know how to Google that.
Michael managed to find someone whose hair has nearly identical style, color, and cut as him. :D Amazing theater, lots of interesting and talented people involved, great video! It's great to see what is possible, even if it is (currently) out of my reach at that level. I love the attention to detail and I'm sure I'll glean some ideas from this that I might be able to adopt in my own dedicated theater.
Great video Youthman! The owner seems like a great guy and was very generous with his knowledge and sharing the awesome space. As my dad always says about someone with nice things that he wants: " I wish I had this one and they have an even better one".
Imagine the patience it took while this was being built, finalized and calibrated...and then the pure enjoyment the first time you sit down and experience your first movie in there!! Did he mention what the first thing was that they watched when it was complete? I'm sure there was a lot of content while calibrating but I'm wondering how they experienced it when everything was all said and done. I wish I could plug my Xbox in and experience some games in there! 😂😂😂
Thank you, Michael! This is a great production on your behalf...! When I have the money, I can use this video as an example to prove that I'm not crazy, aspiring to such detail.
Awesome feature. I like how we can all take a little something from the VAST amount of attention to detail this build has, and apply it to our own systems, regardless of budget. Awesome stuff.
One of your best video, I enjoy the lenght of it. So much details that are worth it, great work teams. Was worth the wait, enjoy the two prequel video to this major one. Nice that Robert let us view his nice house and dream theater. Money well spend. Cheers.
Maple is my favorite wood - usually it's stained light. The house is absolute gorgeous. I usually don't like dedicated home theaters but I totally get this. It's almost art and has the feel of the interior of a GT sedan only converted to a theater.
Absolutely fantastic video experience. I speak for the community.. I truly appreciate you bringing us this content! I've been following you since 2019, and this is by far my favorite video. I'll catch you at the next MWAVE unless I see you at Newby's before then. Thanks!
I think this well done video ,shows it does take a lot of talented people and companies to create one mans dream that goes well above anything most people thinking of a Home Theater . Whole new meaning to (Obsessed) .
I want a copy of that book just to put on MY coffee table, it’s so beautiful. I’m glad so much documentation went into it. I’m incredibly impressed by his knowledge of his space. That sounds weird, but you can tell he wasn’t just writing a check, he’s a legitimate enthusiast. HE made many of these choices! He’s done everything the most fanatical of us would do with a blank check. What a masterpiece of a theater, from design to execution. This is what places like Paradise dream of designing. Thanks to the owner for sharing his home and this space with us and thanks Michael for the time and effort into showcasing it for us. Truly deserving of all 90Mins.
Really interesting to see all the efforts that went into the build.I bet that Hans Zimmerman:Live in Prague Blu ray would sound incredible on a system like this.
I love that while this guy had a huge budget, he clearly was involved in every aspect of the build and knew exactly what he wanted. I can't fault the design and the equipment, but if it was me I would rip out the rear bar seating and all that wood and finish the entire room in black fabric. Having said that, as Michael points out in the video it ultimately comes down to personal preference.
I told Robert and Sam from the beginning that my audience was going to very much appreciate that about him. It’s one thing to write a check, it’s another thing to know what you’re writing the check for and also the one determining what you write it for. He wanted the bar set up for additional overflow seating
Thank you so much Michael for sharing this video, there is a lot of information to learn, very well detailed and explained by each person involved in the construction, and many thanks to Robert, for allowing you to make this great video. One question, do you know if there is a link to access the information in the book, or if we can buy it somewhere? Thanks
Ohh! Thanks, I hadn't seen it. With this information, your video gives me a lot of information. I'm not saying that I'll make a similar room, it must be a lot of money, but having this as a base makes us consider many aspects when building our home theaters and those of our clients. Now that you're moving house, I imagine you'll make a new home theater with all the experience you've acquired, and we, your followers, will be waiting for a video of the construction process. Greetings from Lima, Peru.
The only thing I’d change is not having to mask down to scope. I went with a 2:1 aspect ratio so scope and flat have similar impact. But I’m sure he has his reasons. Great looking room and I’m sure even better sounding.
I believe JTR would absolutely be able to compete with JBL Synthesis. They have the same clarity, detail and dynamics without being harsh on the top end and incredibly high output when needed. JTR also measures extremely well. The Captivator 4000ULF would be able to reach single digits unlike the SSW-1’s. That’s why they needed to add the Ascendo 24’s for Infrasonics. JTR reaches Infrasonics by themselves. I’m getting down to 5Hz in my theater room. And at $5,700 for JTR Captivator 4000ULF vs $8,250 for the JBL Synthesis SSW-1 and $33,000 for the Ascendo 24, JTR provides an astounding value.
So….obviously a lot of good stuff here. But a couple interesting things that make ya go hmmmm…. 1) The sorbothane isolation rings for the subs. If he can move them with the lightest of touches, then the energy generated by the sub itself has to be generating all kinds of microphonic movement. And that will impact (no pun intended) the tautness of bass performance. Interested in hearing if they mitigated this in some way that wasn’t covered in this excellent video. And so interesting given how he talked about isolating the LCRs, clearly demonstrating that the client understands the physics of speaker movement and sound quality. 2) the viewing angle from the two rows brackets almost exactly where most people actually want to sit. Front row was about 60 degrees and back row about 42 degrees. Most people prefer around 50-55 degree field of view. Curious if the client identified his ideal field of view. Great video Michael. Really appreciate the work that went into this.
Tautness of bass isn't involved in the below 25Hz subs at all. Additionally the tautness of bass is in control of the bass decay and not involved in the transient part of the sound until higher up into lower mids. Plus my understanding is the floating is only underneath and the subs are mounted at the sides to the structure which is mounted to the house outer wall.
Love the video. My only advice would be that you don't have to say "right, mhm, ok or sure" after every sentence he says lol. Gets a little distracting. Keep up the great content though.
He designed and ordered it through Shutterfly. It ends up costing about $250 plus shipping. If you’re still interested, send an email to youthman@obsessedhometheater.com and I’ll send you a link.
Hi Michael, Although it doesn't appeal to me in terms of design, I was amazed by its infrastructure. I am a JBL synthesis fan and my dream cinema room was set up. Anyway, I have a question. If I am not mistaken, they used JBL SCL-6 as surround and atmos. And they designed boxes for them. I am also doing research to design boxes in the same way and use SCL-6. Do you know what criteria they used to determine the box dimensions? Or do you have a chance to learn?
Excellent video series Michael! You always put out a quality video and this one even had the quantity lol Was the cost ever mentioned? I'm curious. Thanks brother :)
Thank you for the kind words. I do not know the total cost. In the book Robert mentions his original budget was $500K and said that it radically exceeded that.
Of course there are some reflections. The only way to have no reflections is to create a dark void with velvet on everything. But at no time did the reflections create a distraction once the movie began.
@Youthman my home cinema is basically as you describe, a total black void when the lights are off. I would find reflections annoying especially after spending all that cash.
Likewise, I would find a void annoying. That’s the beauty of this hobby. We all get to build it exactly how we want it to meet our taste, our desires and our budget.
Mr. Stevens, when you said this is a Private Cinema I think you coined the proper term for a room of this level. His room is above and beyond the Endgame Home Theater designation. Mr. Vanman sure seems to be a very "down to earth" fellow and he's obviously someone those of us in the HT hobby should be looking up to due to his knowledge. I may never have to opportunity to meet Mr. Vanman, but would like to thank him for allowing you and Brad to visit his home and show it to us. BTW, I think I should realign my generalized view of wealthy guys. Apparently, not all of them are as evil as I think they are. Surely, I will NEVER be able to reach even 1% of his level of wealth and status nor am I deserving of that 1%, but good for him and his family.
Thank you for the kind words. I have been fortunate in my life to have met many very wealthy people that are extremely kind, loving, compassionate, humble, and extremely generous. Robert is one of them.
Absolutely Beautiful home and home theater. I am sure the audio sounds amazing. One thing I would upgrade is that Sony 5000. His theater deserves at least a Sony GTZ380 or a Christie Griffyn :)
Wisdom makes great speakers and I’ve heard several Wisdom Audio home theaters including two million systems. As I shared in the video, the Van Cave Private Cinema is the best theater I have experienced.
31:01 "You want to heavyweight your speakers so you take a piece of marble..." If I want to put a heavy weight on my speakers I think I'll stick to concrete or bricks lol :)

@@samcavitt8890It's terrible and she did an awful job on that cinema room...sloppy interior design at best!!
David are you always this joyful?

Maybe you should offer a more detailed criticism than a lazy negative off hand comment.
He’s just trollin.
Your best video out, yet!!! Top interviewing, filming and editing!
Thank you kindly. This was definitely the largest video project I have ever worked on.
I have been looking forward to this video for days now.
You’ve been looking forward to it as long as I have been editing it 🤣
He left us hanging for over a week 😭
Outstanding video! Never a dull moment! By far your best work yet on an already high bar! 🎉
Thank you, kindly brother. That’s definitely was by far the most extensive video I have edited thus far. But I’m very pleased at how well it turned out.
Paradise Theater is behind many of the best rooms in the world! Exceptional engineering in harmony with a beautiful experience
If there is one thing I've learned after years of watching this channel, it's that there is NO SUCH THING as an endgame theater. 😂
That is correct. But it can be an endgame for you. 😉
I’ve never been to Texas and I’ve never met Robert, but I feel like I’ve just been a guest at his fabulous theatre. Thank you Michael for this wonderful in-depth presentation!
Feature length tour! I have my entertainment tonight. I can always count on you setting the gold standard for home theater tours.
I like to set the bar high. 😀 Enjoy
Your passion for this hobby is commendable, and it is a good video, too.
That's an incredible amount of effort and dedication, thanks for sharing it Robert.
I'd prefer it in black though 😜
Amazing, Michael! A lot of passion behind this theater!
Absolutely!
Thank you for the kind words. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
Thank you Julius
I summarize in 3 words MASTERPIECE " 👑Project, 👑Construction, 👑Appliances, 👏👏👏😱🤤😍
Not at all. The screen is too small and the seats are the wrong color. See my previous comment...
@virtualpilgrim8645 if you think so.
Epic job on covering this Michael. What an experience to behold. You are definitely going to have to revisit with the family!
Thank you for the kind words. I would love to take my family to experience this.
Very very impressive and unique Home Cinema, excellent presentation !!! Congratulations!!!
Excellent video, thanks for your great work. Lots of inspiration and technical details.
🤣🤣🤣 that literally had me laughing
A sub that goes down to 2 Hz. Holy moly.
Impressed by this theater and the amazing attention to detail in this video.
This was incredible. Would have loved to see your faces as you experience a movie in this thing. Wow
It's amazing to see the parallels with super high end home theater and car audio.
Awesome feature. I like how we can all take a little something from the VAST amount of attention to detail this build has, and apply it to our own systems, regardless of budget. Awesome stuff.
This 👆👆👆
Excellent. Having that home cinema within a room x 3, reminds me being in a clean room.
Good one Michael
Another amazing video and theater!
Keep up the work, my friend!
Thank you kindly. Doing the best I can.
Radically exceeded $500K. Money well spent❤
Just stunning! Hour and a half flew by. Great video!
Thank you I’m really glad you enjoyed it
One of your best video, I enjoy the lenght of it. So much details that are worth it, great work teams. Was worth the wait, enjoy the two prequel video to this major one.
Nice that Robert let us view his nice house and dream theater.
Money well spend.
Cheers.
Thank you for the kind words Robert. I definitely feel it is my best video to date. But I also spent the most time editing it (five days) lol
Thanks!
Thank you for the kind words, Paul. This was definitely the largest project I’ve worked on. I’ll see you at Newby’s.
It might be the best-sounding place ever! It has the equipment, engineering, and passion for it. Lucky you!
Triply-nested room? Mind boggling. Plus, that design is just gorgeous.
Yes, I’ve never experienced anything like it
Stunning craftsmanship
I think this well done video ,shows it does take a lot of talented people and companies to create one mans dream that goes well above anything most people thinking of a Home Theater . Whole new meaning to (Obsessed) .
Yeah, they kinda took Obsessed to a whole new level lol
The owner is very knowledgeable and passionate. Love the woodworking.
AMAZING video Michael thank you
Thank you for the kind words, Rodney
If you wanna link to the book, send me an email at Youthman@obsessedhometheater.com. I believe it’s about $250 to Print though through Shutterfly.
Really interesting to see all the efforts that went into the build.I bet that Hans Zimmerman:Live in Prague
Blu ray would sound incredible on a system like this.
amazing amazing house and theatre ! youthman did an awesome job great interviewer great questions !
Thank you for the kind words
That whole house is Powerball money!🤔🤯🤯 My JBL synthesis 590 speakers would be proud.🤔😋😝😇 That whole house is very Tastefully done.😎
Thanks
Thank you for the kind words Oscar. The link to the PDF book is in the description and a pinned comment.
JBL synthesis!!! Finally someone doing compression drivers correctly
I’ve always been a fan of compression drivers and horns. Exactly why I went with JTR in my theater.
How do you think they compare to the JBL’s?
Thank you for the kind words. This was an awesome project to work on and a phenomenal cinema to experience.
Ohh My Word .. Inspiration
Finally! Let me get my mug of hot cocoa and watch this!
Hope you enjoy it! It was a labor of love. Probably a five day total edit on this one longest project I’ve ever worked on.
@@Youthman Indeed I am. Well done on the final edit. Phenomenal HT!
Absolutely amazing--love it!
His house reminds me of the Carrington house on Dynasty 😮 but even better. Unbelievable.
Absolute “Wow” factor and attention to details like no other home theater. Thanks for sharing
I’m glad you enjoyed the video
Love the video.
My only advice would be that you don't have to say "right, mhm, ok or sure" after every sentence he says lol. Gets a little distracting. Keep up the great content though.
Right, um ok.
Thank you for opening your door and sharing your passion for home theater. My God blessed you and your love ones.
Michael, first rate production. Great work.
Thank you kindly.
Man you were not lying . This is crazy good.
I told you Tristan! I don’t lie, bro 😀
B R A V O !!!!!! Mind - Blowing.
Crazy impressive...does the JBL system have wave forming controls?
Excellent!!!
A well thought out legendary build. Where can I get a copy of that book?
He designed and ordered it through Shutterfly. It ends up costing about $250 plus shipping. If you’re still interested, send an email to youthman@obsessedhometheater.com and I’ll send you a link.
Is there a way to buy a copy of his home theater build book?
Yes he sent me the link on Shutterfly where he ordered it from. It $250 plus shipping - bit.ly/Order_Van_Cave_Build_Book
You would need to reach out to Paradise Theater as they would know the answers to that.
@@Youthman Yeah I would say that doesn't even come close. Praying for you to sell your house and for a smooth transition :)
Thank you kindly
Of the Titanic had a movie theatre, this is what it look like! Absolutely beautyful room 😍😍😍
wow this man know how to have fun in style.
How tall is the screen when it gets bigger from the masking? Thank you youthman!! Amazing home theater
The screen dimensions might be in the Build Book PDF in the description.
Thank you. It does say it’s 168 inches wide (14ft) and 7ft 10 inches tall when the screen is in its full size mode. Very cool
looks great, does all that shiny wood and marble throw off any reflections?
Of course there are some reflections. The only way to have no reflections is to create a dark void with velvet on everything. But at no time did the reflections create a distraction once the movie began.
@Youthman my home cinema is basically as you describe, a total black void when the lights are off. I would find reflections annoying especially after spending all that cash.
Likewise, I would find a void annoying. That’s the beauty of this hobby. We all get to build it exactly how we want it to meet our taste, our desires and our budget.
Stunning
I can see Youthman learning new ideas for his new HT for his new home
This is awesome
Maybe so. But it’s still a $60K projector and it looked really nice.
Sir, how would u rate it versus Wisdom LS4? I love to see your videos. They are really informative
Wisdom makes great speakers and I’ve heard several Wisdom Audio home theaters including two million systems. As I shared in the video, the Van Cave Private Cinema is the best theater I have experienced.
Thanx a lot sir for your answer. Regards
31:01 "You want to heavyweight your speakers so you take a piece of marble..."
If I want to put a heavy weight on my speakers I think I'll stick to concrete or bricks lol :)
