If the Union soldiers just place their left hand in the correct position during the first battle of Bull Run. The war could have been won on that fateful day.

Pay tables and a wealth of information.
Arms port? Since the preparatory command precedes the execution, should the command not be port, arms since arms is the execution command in all other positions?
Not sure how he is wearing the "wrong belt" - the corporal is wearing a standard issue NCO belt - silver leaves for NCOs and solid gold for Officers. This type of NCO belt - thought normally reserved for Sergeants - could be worn by a corporal or any NCO.

Most units will usually accept '53 enfields. Some of the extremely hardcore units only allow '61 springfields. My personal recommendation is to get a '61 springfield for a more accurate impression. The first thing you should do is get in touch with the unit you wish to join and ask for their advice. Move the weapon around your head not your head around the weapon. One of the many things reenactors do that drive vets (by this I mean Marines and Army Infantry) up the damn wall.

you don't need to, it's just rather unnecessary. That would rarely be used, and when it was, it was used in basic training on how to do the drill. This is just a demonstration of the positions, in a way they would've been actually used. he's not 'tossing the piece about', either. that's the actual way to do it.
I don´t think you know the difference between a rifle and a musket. A musket has a smoothbore barrel. While a rifle has a rifled barrel hence the name rifle. So a rifle musket is like a black white horse. The term rifled musket referred only to muskets that had been produced as a weapon with a smoothsbore barrel and later had it replaced with rifled barrels.
The entire video is about how to handle a SPEAR. At no time is the basic function of the device, as a FIREARM, even mentioned. Video should be "How to move your club from shoulder to shoulder, and attach the pointy bit."
omg DUDE. this was a manual of drill, and the forms of holding the piece. It's not supposed to be used as a firearm in this. There are other videos if you wanna learn how to shoot stuff. It's not a spear, it's a musket, and that's how it would be used. DEAL WITH IT

The video mentioned about Hardee's 1855 being the reason Casey's was made because it would be modern to that older version plus as the video stated Hardee went on to fight for the Confederacy so why would the Union use a "rebel's" manual. General Hardee revised his own manual in 1862. So yes the CSA had an official modern manual as well... You may say it was an army of "Jim bobs" as you call it but believe it or not many of the South's high ranking officers and Generals were career soldiers from the US Army before the war as well as West Point graduates just like their Union counterparts. People just assume because the confederacy lost they had a bad military, if anything they lasted as long as they did because of their experience against all odds.
These men are drilling properly and their kit looks great. A fine video for new reenactors or chairborne history buffs.

I do civil was re-enactments and just became old enough to use a rifle. This was very helpful with learning the basic Manuel of arms.

Not really, black powder shoots pretty smooth due to the lower burn rate. It mainly pushes instead of kicking.
Well its also a heavy gun. It kicks but not awful. That’s about a 9 pound gun
Even then, they only used 60 grains of powder which isn't wimpy but not hard kicking either.
