Awesome video! What sharpening system did you upgrade the stone holder from? Mine holds the stone a little sideways. I added a wooden dowel for much more stability on the small end of the base. I have noticed that when I sharpen folders that have a full flat grind, I have to shim the blade in to keep it from wobbling. No problem with that, it's just the nature of the clamping system.
Hi Anthony, First off thank you. Second; I commandeered the stone holder from a Kazak add on I bought a little while back. It's just simple plastic pieces with dovetails milled, but its accuracy as far as being parallel to the rod is great. The original stone holder is 1 of 2 major dings of the system. I would HIGHLY suggest getting a TSPROF stone holder assembly as it will also fir the Madedge. The rod is the same diameter so itll fit right in. I know the STATES LLC has TSPROF narrow stone holders in stock in the US, so I'd really take a good look at those. It would come with an extra rod, and rod.end stops, so you would have all that you need. I'm glad you're enjoying your Madedge so far tho. I just couldnt get over the wooden cabinet handle on the flimsy aluminum stone holder. Changing that one thing out mad all the difference to me. Hope this helps!
Oh and by the way Anthony, this may seem like a huge ad for TSPROF, but in case you didnt know, TSPROF clamps also fit the Mad Edge As well. I'd highly suggest looking at their whole milled clamps and conical clamps as both help alleviate the need for shims. Good luck!
I believe if you go to the Madedge TH-cam channel and leave a message you could contact him. Likewise, on Facebook if you look up "Anday Sharp" I think that's also the owner as well. Good luck
Hi Daniel,I saw your system at Black Beard's channel and found your channel here.Unfortunately I'm not at Facebook...is there any possibility to purchase your system in Europe?Or, if not in Europe, where to buy?Looking really great and rigid, compared with systems I know, especially the possibility, to clamp longer blades save and without deformation during grinding.Kind regardsMarkus
i would love a set up like this.. i work in a kitchen and use a few knifes at work and they get alot of use and eventually get blunt,,, can i buy the exact outfit that your using ? if yes, i would love to contact the person please... thank you, David
Honestly this a good system for the money, but to be 100% honest the seller needs to have a way for US buyers to purchase it. I had to sign up for Xoom (foreign paypal) and wait for it to be shipped from Ukraine I believe. I'm sure through google you could find the contact for Madedge, but for near the same money you could get a Hapstone from Gritomatic, or a KME from anywhere. Both are great systems. Good luck
Hi S Rombow, The KME is a great system so dont feel like you made an incorrect purchase. I used to have a KME, and thought the clamp mechanism was genius. Most systems cant clamp full flat grinds that well, but the KME and WE Gen 3 are 2 systems that dont have an issue with them. If I could do one thing to the KME, it would be to buy the HAPSTONE Universal stone holder for the KME. That allows you to use full size Edgepro stones instead of the smaller 4x1. I think the new holder + the KME would be an amazing system. Hope this helps. Good luck
@@danielslatenightsharpening254 good observation. I had the same thought.... And apparently so did Jesse Stroup. He makes some "adapters" that allows you to use the 6" stones. I just bought some and they work well and solve the issue. It's far from perfect if you use the original rod, but he makes the whole thing as a unit too which works much better. If you want to check it out look here: photos.app.goo.gl/EwYKiwtdg3vo4SeS7 ... It may be something you can add to your arsenal.
@@srombow6375 images.app.goo.gl/WvzevLYYNcRAGLST6 Check that one out. That's the Hapstone version. The pictures you posted look like an awesome source for modifying or improving the KME. I'm assuming the base is 3D printed instead of machined, so for just that reason I would opt for the Hapstone version as you can see it looks like it may provide more accurate angle measurements. One you start adding pieces that aren't fixed to the rod, but floating instead, well you're totally at the mercy of the tolerances of the floating piece rather than the rod itself. Hope this helps. Thank you!
Few things. Price for basic kit is $148 plus $38 shipping. Is tsoprof worth more than 2.5 times the cost of madedge? The madedge clamps look better than tsprof (even clamping and allow for more acute angles)- do you agree?
Hello Harivney, So 2 things I want to address. First off is price of the KO3. The TSPROF Ko3 starts at a price of 349.00 and varies from there depending what clamps you want, or base, etc. Regardless, for 349.00 you get the entire basic setup ready to be added on to from there. 2nd, I can tell you 100% that the whole milled TSPROF clamps are of higher quality and more accurate in terms of clamping pressure and angular offset.. With that I stress again, the MadEdge is an AMAZING sharpener for its price. But if you plan on spending anywhere around 200.00-400.00, the TSPROF is the way to go. I'm not sure if you cant see this harivney, but the Madedge clamps are smaller, and made of 3 separate pieces which then brings in 3 seperate tolerance windows, and 3 seperate factors to control. The whole milled TSPROF clamps are 1 piece, larger, and have relief cuts near the tip to allow for better clamping pressure on full flat grinds. I hope this helps!
@@danielslatenightsharpening254 Harivney is a fictitious name. I have a tsprof k02 that did not come with full milled clamps and I find the standard clamps are troublesome and can easily influence the angle on each side of the blade unless you are lucky tightening the clamps in a non-predictable way. And yes - I did the whole calibration as shown in their vid. I also have the small filet clamps that can get more acute angles that the full milled clamps.
@@harivney definitely try the whole milled clamps and/or the Conical clamps. If anything the Conical clamps feel heavy duty, and seem very accurate to me as far as how it was machined, and its use of steel clamps instead of aluminum. I hope this helps. Please keep me posted if you get the whole milled clamps. I think youd like them
@@danielslatenightsharpening254 I have the milled clamps (only) and they don't seem to grip flat grinds too well. They clamp most blades well enough, but I can still wiggle my Spydercos unless I grab a flat part towards the tang.
It’s been a year. Do you still like the system? I am seriously considering getting one
Your advice to purchase or not, also which stones I should got
