I'm so happy to have found this video, i own a boox 3C and i got it thanks to the my deep guide channel. Most of the people in that channel are power users and they have some solid complains for their use cases. However, seeing you enjoying this devices so much and finding most of it's great highlights on camera was priceless.

This is one of the best demos I've seen for this device and the 3C Pro big-brother of this one. You are actually using it the way 'normal' users would, for example when you write on the screen you aren't holding the pen in a weird-way to avoid 'upsetting the device', you are holding it normally as we all do with the rest of the side of your hand on the screen for support. This gave an unequivocal demonstration therefore that the palm-rejection is pretty-much perfect - with no unpredictable marks or gesture-actions happening while you were writing - a VERY, VERY important aspect of any e-note/screen device for me and I'm sure others. Real-life demo of the speakers too - and as you say they are there, and they're clearly fit-for-purpose, the device never claims to be a 'music-machine' but has sound that can be clearly heard nevertheless. A really helpful video that 'just shows the device' without too much existential-waffle and endless pondering that so many YT content contains now. Many thanks for taking the time to make and show us this video - p.s. sort the garden a bit - it's a mess. 😉😉

As always Shane, nice work! I wish you had stressed more the note taking capabilities of the device. The software helps you take and organize your thoughts with handwriting. There's a lot of science behind the idea that we remember what notes we're taking when we handwrite them versus typing them on a keyboard. This is an outstanding device for note taking in addition to reading.

Nice review. I own the Boox Ultra C with a keyboard. Unfortunatly the processors in these things (and Android) are older as they need to integrate with an additional processor that can work with the e-ink particles. Did you try to turn the device off? That's also fun as due to the way e-ink works even when it's of it maintains a full color picture on the screen.

When you have to read a lot of documents, study, and write notes… In normal kindle isn’t possible, those have little screen and the kindle scribe doesn’t have color when you need to highlight contents. On the other hand, ipad or Samsung tablets with pen gives you a headache, swollen eyes, fatigue for watching a brighter light screen. And in the traditional way, you can’t live with a lot of documents, those are heavy, you can lose them, fragile, etc.
So, I’m part of the costumers of this device. I’m still thinking about it expensive price. I would buy it without hesitation if it costs less.

Btw the comic book thing is because when we were kids, those were printed on newsprint, which doesn't give much saturation. If you use the same files on modern, glossy paper, you get really garish colors which is why some re-issues of classics look so odd. Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns is often cited as an example.

I had one for a few weeks. I think it is good for a regular people who wake up in day and read in day light, especially good for those turn the brightness of their monitors to the maximum and need to protect their eyes. However, I am a night owl, usually stay and read in a dimmer indoor light. Then I feel the white is not whiter than white paper in books. Sure you need to turn on the backlight to make the white whiter, but this also lit up the black, so the contract is not that great, comparing to a oled display in dark mode. Based on using situation, the price is also a consideration.

If you watch the portion of the video I say "I wouldn't say it's been in heavy use." If you sit down and use it for 8 hours straight, you could kill it faster. If you're using it here and there, reading a bit off and on like I was, it'll last much longer than 1 day. It would be hard for me to kill it in one day. It def seems dated in the chip area for $500. The color looks nice but I dont think that justifies that premium price when there are exceedingly cheaper options despite that amazing refresh rate it can achieve, which isn't the point of an e-reader device anyways.I'd say if this was in the $300 range it would be a good sell but not $500. Btw don't buy from Best Buy they charge the same $499 and dont give the cover and have no reason as to why they are keeping the cover out of their bundle.

eInk is notoriously expensive. The Kindle Scribe for instance, is a similar price for the 8"/10" form factor. You are also buying a Color eInk screen, so while it's not OLED, AMOLED or MiniLED, there's nothing similar in the size for this tech. While Bigme have a similar device using the same Kaleido 3 color screen tech, it's not significantly cheaper. YMMV on sales pricing, it could be competitive for the Bigme Inknote color lite.
When Kindle makes their Color version, it will probably be USD $500 to $600
Another of the reasons it's using an old snapdragon SoC is that it doesn't need to be fast. The battery life is contingent on not needing to be refreshing the screen every few seconds, nor do you need WiFi 6E or Bluetooth 5.2. It will run audiobooks or keep notes, but the battery will drain. Same with cranking the brightness for days. It's also likely why it's feature limited to Android 11, due to the screen technology not yet being updated.

Most Likely Project Gutenberg books as they're Public Domain. The "store" is likely a placeholder as most people would either use Kindle, Libby or Kobo, Google Play, etc, as ebooks have a notorious problem - since Kindle 'won' the eBook war a decade ago, it becomes difficult to get books outside of the US regions due to publishers and exclusivity, et al.
It generally means you can't get publishers to approve a new eBook store unless they're the ones running it. There's also Calibre to move or convert books for Kindle/Kobo, or just to rescale comics and images on books for different screen sizes,
and there's also places like zlibrary to 'find' ePub books and move them into onedrive/google drive to move between ereaders. sic.
