Bro , you will need more information on - where those 100 Rs were spent ? and where did they come from? I will explain you by example : Direct Tax In India if your Earning per year is 2.5 Lakh . The govt. won't charge you income tax , because the tax rate is 0% for this income slab i.e. upto 2.5 Lakhs . However, If the income is more than 2.5 Lakh the income tax will be charged as per the slab rate i.e. 5% for Income from Rs. 2,50,000 - Rs. 5,00,000 per year. It also varies by age of the individual. You can check different slabs rates released by Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). www.bankbazaar.com/income-tax.html Lets say you earn 3 Lakh per year . As per the slab , you will have to pay 5% of your total income to Govt. i.e. 300000 * 5/100 = 15000. You will have to pay total 15000 Rs Tax to govt. Now about the 100 Rs. you spent . If we have to calculate how much tax you are charged on every 100 Rs you earned , we will follow same procedure , 100 * 5/100= 5. You will be paying Rs. 5 for every Rs. 100 you earned . So you will be paying Direct Tax of Rs. 5 . Out of 100 Rs. Now you have Rs. 95 left after the income tax deduction. ____________________________________ Indirect Tax Moving on to Indirect Tax , as you understood from the video above that indirect tax has several types and is collected in the form of Value Added Tax (VAT), service tax, sales tax etc. on different rates. If you pay attention to the receipt of any purchase you have made recently in restaurants or supermarket etc. , you will see that the total amount includes different forms of taxes added to the Cost of the product/service. Lets go Back to 100 Rs. you spent. Actually Rs 5 is to be paid to Govt, so keeping that aside you have 95 Rs. left . Which makes the total Rs 350 . In this case, approx. 55 Rs . were paid as a Tax as per the rates decided by Govt. Suppose you spent your 95 Rs. in Mc Donald's Restaurant , where you were charged 15 Rs as Indirect taxes such as *service Charge * VAT etc. which means that the cost of the item was Rs 80. So you had to pay Rs. 15 as Indirect taxes on your purchase. _________________________________ Total Tax Paid on from your Rs 100 earning. Direct Tax + Indirect Tax = Total Rs 5 + Rs 15 = Rs. 20 In the following case you paid Total Tax of Rs. 20 out of your earnings of Rs. 100.
