ðThe fortress from DÄbÃĒca village was, according to the anonymous chronicler of King BÃĐla IV, the residence of the voivode Gelu, from whose name the name of GilÄu village would be derived.
In the 10th and 14th centuries it played an important role in the history of Transylvania.
K. Hodor, who described in 1837 the ruins of the fortress, assumed that it was built on the site of a Dacian fortress. Other theories claim that the fortress was partially built over an older settlement dating from the VIII-IX centuries.
