“Puffing Billy” is actually the name of a narrow gauge railway near Melbourne in Victoria (Australia). Some of the engines are even in a green livery very similar to this one’s! Another great video, as always :D
Billy is a tank engine. He is privately owned by a man called "The Train Boy". He spends most of his time shunting trucks in the yard. He is rather content with this lifestyle but occasionally gets lonely. Perhaps his owner may find him a friend.

Can't believe the Bachmann Junior range predicted Thomas the Tank Engine OC's. Jokes aside, the Bachmann Junior range did real good at converting Thomas and Percy and makes me wonder what it'd look like if Bachmann Junior made more of the recolored Thomas & Friends locomotives.
I'm glad to see another upload from you, your channel is great because of all the variety we get and the video quality itself is great, keep up the amazing work man!
fun fact puffing billy is a real train over here in australia that still runs today, It was built in the 1900s to help trasport people, logs, livestock and other goods in the hills but aside from the grean paint it looks quite a bit different, for example its a 2-6-2 with 3 domes on its boiler and a brass cap on its funnel
1:08 Says Bachmann, shows a Tyco Catalogue. But seriously, I had not idea these were official models! I've seen them before but I always thought they were customs. I learned something new today! Also, I think the retooling is forgivable in their Thomas line, but I personally have beef with their classic USRA 0-6-0 models they produce...
Yeah I know, Bachmann’s the one who named it though so who knows bruv. :/ It’s also an earlier locomotive too made in New Castle but that’s different lol
For being a model coming from your grandad, I would just his broken lamp brackets and keep him as is, like the others had said he is quite valuable (coming from number 1 Bachmann Junior collector himself, I had two Billys haha) but personally any Bachmann Junior loco is quite a uncommon and nice thing to have, only very minor detail changes and all that are good unless it was very broken and scratched up then maybe a repaint can do, I'm going on and on about nothing but just having a unique repaint kept just as himself is a nice thing
The reason why it runs better is due to the lack of an eye mech, likely entirely. If you open up a Bachmann Thomas’s gearbox and remove the eye mech gears it will most likely run the same.
That’s fair man, I try to remove them the moment I get my hands on models that feature them. I’m sure there are people that actually like it but I can’t imagine it warrants the issues they cause.
It does kind of look like either Bluebell (which got an ERTL model) or LBSC Thomas from The Adventure Begins (which got Trackmaster, Adventures, and MINIS models).
I love these line of engines they’re so nice looking and If I owned one I would keep it as is I wouldn’t repaint it into thomas or anything I love them how they are You’re lucky to have one in your constantly expanding collection
1:21 I find it funny that the image you used to refer to Bachmann UK producing “British classics” is a picture of their “USA Dock Tanks” aka the WW2 US Army transportation Corps S100 class that were kept after the war and modified 😂
Honestly, one thing that I have always wanted to do is make a model of Thomas without a face, and of course make it filthy. I want to make him look like a work horse rather than a Childrens toy
whilst the junior range is indeed rare, per loco, no more than £50 each do they typically go for, £25 is kind of average and anything lower is just a steal, anything higher than £60 is frankly a rip off also the sets range between £50-£100 normally, even the DCC ones, because of the lack of collectors for them and people looking at the junior range as "just a toy" so they go under the radar. i can confirm aswell, the junior "Not-Thomas" models are identical inside to the original release bachmann thomas pre-snowplow and pre-chassis shortening, the only real difference is the lack of eye mech and gears leading up to the eye mech The Greg and GWR "Not-Percy" models also feature a special wheel retaining plate for a front coupling to be applied, meaning if someone with contacts at bachmann could find the tooling for this piece, the bachmann percy could be that bit better
Word to the wise if your gonna open this fellow up, the chassis is really strange, instead of the moter being integrated into the chassis block, its a free floating unit that only meshes from the body being screwed in. To make maters even more annoying the DCC socket is screwed into the Cab roof of all places AND the wires to the chassis from the socket thread THROUGH the footplate, meaning that has to come off as well. So, just had a go getting into 'Stuart', Billy's DCC fitted brother, Ho boy. Okay first there are two long screws on the chassis front and back, you need to take the chassis off to get at the front screw holding the body on, next you need to take the three screws holding the body to the footplate off, one is under the chassis block at the front and the other two at either corner of the cab. The moter isn't actually free floating, but it is screwed into the body, two screws take em out and finally you unscrew the socket, two screws. Meaning you have nine screws to keep track of.
Wait hold up, your going to the greenbergs train show in edison nj on the 27th and 28th!?

Unfortunately no green e2 though imagine if Australia had the last ever e2 tank engine
Same here
Funnily enough, Thomas would have potentially been LNER green had he been a J50.

@@ItsTrainBoy 👍 Also, could I have your permission to write a story about Isabella? She is your OC after all.
Nah man, there’s no need to put a face on it.
Just stick a mini cone in one of it’s windows for a megaphone and call it a Tugs character.
^^ I’m with this idea more lowkey
"Oi, Billy! Do you have my load?"

Dont bachman have the thomas licence for the USA and are using the same molds ?
@@highpath4776 yes. They’ve had the license since 2002.

3:33 Billy goes Down the Mine and other stories.
"billy" the washed up brother of thomas. but really this model is nice
Ye
If you wanted to reference Master Chief, you could probably add it to your WW2 fleet, and giving it the appropriate nickname
“Stop telling me what to do Thomas” huffed billy. “You are a very bossy engine”.
For a second I thought bachman had released an Australian "Puffing Billy" Locomotive and i was so excited
When I saw the name puffing Billy I was confused because there is a real train in Australia called puffing Billy but it’s the Bachmann one

Thank you so much brother man! :) I promise I’ll do my best, thank you for not only watching but taking the time to leave these kind words!
Unfortunately, Puffing Billy is forever cursed with sharing a name with the one model era character that everyone hates.
Also sharing a name with a railway in Australia and it’s locomotive
A stumpy e2 actually looks pretty good in green. If you go with an au, maybe you can say it’s one of Thomas’ brothers that did t get scrapped.
Fun fact:
Lionel reused the same 0-8-0 over *13 TIMES* in a ten year period

Sir going choo choo mode
The Junior range came out after the Thomas range actually.
Like one or two years after.
This model would make a great real life thomas custom
It would be cool if Bachman started doing this with other Thomas engines with realistic takes on them

I couldn’t when he grabbed the mug on the other side instead of grabbing the handle
