      Why

      @woodensurfer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a sad reality that Hong Kong drives on the right. Otherwise, better integration with the mainland will be easier.

      I am a third generation Hong Kong born Chinese. I am not proud of this very nice little place although I love it as it is hometown. Love is not the same as pride. I particularly love the streets and roads I grew up in. Hong Kong has its origin in the Opium Wars, the consequences of which all of China had suffered immensely for a century. I believe a cultured person should be thoughtful and should think of one's origin.
      I respect your personal choice but I prefer and yearn for better cultural integration with the motherland China. I have cultural affliction with China and appreciate the vastness and grandeur of China.
      Realistically, comes 2047 Hong Kong's special political arrangement would come to an end and integration with the motherland will be de jure. The rational should wisely prepare for this eventuality.
      I also see that Hong Kong's special political arrangement may be extended as time approaches. I hope so; cultural integration with political separation is the best for Hong Kong for as long as possible.
      Hong Kong's economic future is closely integrated with the motherland China, so was its economic past. The thoughtful should consider this reality.

      Your first mistake is in overestimating the percentage of people in Hong Kong who have your perspective. You need to accept that the reason many with your perspective, the minority, needed to break the law to "occupy" the public domain to paralyze Hong Kong is because they could not convince the majority in Hong Kong with logic.
      Your second mistake is in misunderstanding the special political Hong Kong enjoys. This special arrangement is granted by the extremely powerful central government due to its far-sighted considerations. There is no struggle for Hong Kong; the more Hong Kong struggles the less Hong Kong will receive. Greater cultural integration actually benefits Hong Kong politically because it removes the element of threat.
      Why is the extremely powerful central government far-sighted about Hong Kong? First, it does not want political influence too much too soon from Hong Kong. Second, it wants international approval. Third, it still recognize the economic significance of Hong Kong. Fourth, it wants the world to accept a Hong Kong-like arrangement for Taiwan. All this considerations are far more significant and lasting without any struggle than any worthless and counterproductive political struggle in Hong Kong.
