  • Wow, it's been a while since my last video! Well, I am coming back to you with one of the most requested - an update on all of my cleaning and pressing projects. Sometimes we are flush and other times we are bust, but no matter what we are having fun! Overall, I have had very very few losses. At the most, it is a wash considering the time, effort, and grading fees associated with these attempts. So sit back and enjoy some of my biggest wins and some of my greatest disappointments. In the near future, look forward to new stain removal and whitening methods! I show some examples in this video of the potential. Until then!

    I got my first five issues of Daredevil to CBCS I paid to have them pressed and graded needless to say they came back with the first two issues with a .05 grade…after researching about all these grading companies degrading collections and discourage most people like myself ………….. your videos prove this even more.
    People like you have more compassion in what your doing then these money grabbing corporations that have manipulated themself’s into at one time was a fun hobby.
    I could go on to give the names of the insiders that I made friends with over the decades but this a big business and selected few get to be in the game …
    First thing is I wanna thank you for putting up these videos I think your great in what your doing your attention to detail has a lot of heart… I do need to ask you when you crack a slab and do your work… are you sending that back to same grading company?? and if you are just to let you know they have a history of that book they know who has it and can track it down they’ve been guesstimating for years on just how many issues were printed and the possibility of how many are still out there. This is where the price guide will determine what those books true worth is. I gave up collecting comics in the 80’s once I saw it heading this way you have grading company’s dictating most of the time the unrealistic condition of books and I don’t wanna sound like the person that puts on a tin foil hat (I’ve been going to comic conventions in New York since the early 70’s… I became friends with people on the ground floor to ask these questions and became friends with one of the leading people in restoration….. When asked is this a private game yes or no …. The answer sadly was yes ) Once again I’m curious to know did you ever get a book from CGC then did your clean up then send it CBCS ? (I know CBCS is one of the guys that used to work at CGC …) (CGC is owned by a Rap artist … )
    It’s a shame its come down to this to really on three company’s to determine what used to be a fun hobby into a cut throat business of a few elitists… You do Great work save your money sell your books to your fan base if they wanna get them graded and slabbed have them pay that price.. I would rather purchase a book from someone that I could go through that book myself instead of gazing at a piece of plastic…. I haven’t touch some my collection in over forty years and as I was boarding and putting new plastic on them the other night I was taken back going on my bike riding to the stationary store every month to buy my comics …. Looking at those covers and remembering the year it came out ( My wife said how do you remember those dates without looking inside to see … I remember the day I got this book fifty years ago that was a good memory) I’m not letting three companies kill that memory …. One of the biggest rip off’s was paying to be in CGC (only to find out after paying they were so back logged they would get my books back in a year …. A YEAR!! Are they kidding me ?) and CBCS they graded two books that it wasn’t worth the money of the grade Guess they figure I would just put them up on EBay and one of their minions would Skoff it up to crack it open and put the true grade on it they know the book is out there ( how do I know same thing with coins a friend sends in coins and he was disappointed in the grade and the guy said “we’ll get your coin” !!!! Damn that was creepy)…….oh did I mention I paid to have the books pressed and it doesn’t look in know way that it was done and after seeing what you had done it confirms they never did …. Keep up the Great work .. 😊❤

    Love the video, thanks for putting this together! I am still learning the basics of clean/press and look forward to your content once I get the courage up to try stain removal and whitening

      The stain removal definitely takes some practice to work up to. I would get the basic clean and press process down and then work on expanding your skills. Once you have familiarity with a bunch of different era of books, you will have a better feel for how to approach each unique book. Good luck!

    Love the vids glad to see a new one! Question do you use humidity between rounds of pressing? I have a similar set up (chamber with a humidifier)

      @epicomicologycomics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For everything other than glossy moderns I always use humidity before pressing. I don't use humidity when I "flip" the book for the second part of the press though. If I press the book again, I may or may not humidify depending on what I did in between (e.g., like use the tackiron).

    Hello, glad to see another great vid. Your techniques and methodologies are top notch. You have inspired me to dry clean my books and send them off to CGC. I’m also gonna crack my first slab. Thanks again for teaching me how to properly clean my books. I know ur going to do a vid on stain removal but how can I remove tanning? I saw the excellent job you did on that Captain 111. I have a SW8 I just clean but have tanning on the back cover I couldn’t completely remove.

    • @epicomicologycomics
      @epicomicologycomics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the stain removal process, specifically BLED-M, will significantly mitigate tanning. I just bought a pretty hammered looking Cap 111 to use for a two-part video of stain removal. More coming soon!

    Hi. Great videos! subbed.How do you find signings? And you said you were thinking of recracking one to get a second signature. How do you get both validated?

    • @epicomicologycomics
      @epicomicologycomics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Thanks for subbing! If the book is already a yellow label, then your only options are to use CCS for pressing and maybe send it to another CGC in-house singing. Alternatively, you can work with a number of 3rd party facilitators that are available to crack yellow labels and retain the signature verification. I frequently use Rich Henn (you can find him on FaceBook) or Agents of Slabs. Both are very reputable and are also able to press/clean your book when adding signatures. Hope that helps!

    This comment is for the producer of this video, do you do any commission work? I have some old comics that I would really like for you to take a look at and see if they would be worth cleaning. I see the level of expertise that you have and I think based off of my review of my comic books, that they may need your services if you offer them

      Hi! Thanks for the interest. At this time I am not accepting books for cleaning and pressing. If you check on the KaptainMykes Facebook page, you will find some that have businesses.
