Wow. Everything still looks the same, in the late 70's I worked in that shop 1600 s Lumber. I was a machinist working with the F-40's some SDP-40's and once in a blue moon a P-30ph. I also worked with the French version turboliners in Brighton Park and I remember going to Beech Grove for training. Good memories from the good old days.
@@Cursedc23 bruh the only one they didn’t paint in the video was The F40ph Many P40s were painted into Phase 1, 2, 3, or 4 and sure P40s were in phase 3 paint but it was different also the P40s were built in the 90’s so it makes no sense to paint it in a outdated scheme unless it’s a heritage unit. And the phase 4 paint well to tell a heritage unit is if it has the Amtrak 1971-2011 word marking on it. So no your wrong.
Jason Learakos2005 Amtrak has 24 or 25 NPCUs, most or all of which are still in use. They arent powered anymore, they are used as cab control units for trains that are suitable for push pull operation. NPCU stands for Non Powered Control Unit.
Nice! 90356 and 504 are no longer in their original old liveries! 90368 was just repainted last year 4:55 nice to see the whole stack and hear that uncommon noise! 6:34 I was rather surprised when these viewliner baggae cars appeared on western routes as well! I thought they were primarily for the east only!
When I was young, Milwaukee Road had sash window passenger cars! Those were wooden-sided cars that evolved to steel-sided cars without sash windows. The new stainless steel-sided double deckers were the next passenger car upgrades. Suburban trains to downtown Chicago predated the automobile expressways, similar to Maxwell Street being replaced by shopping malls.
I looked at Union Station on google earth and saw some ancient Milwaukee Road equipment, probably for the 261, saw some charter cars, and oddly saw a Pacific Surfliner engine!
Crossbuck Productions The main 5 at least, yes. Theres plenty of variations that of course I didnt see. Like pepsi can on the dash8s. And the first version of phase 5 on the P42s. But for whats left in the current day, yea I basically saw it all. I was quite happy that day.

+Railroadfan5383 And the HHP-8 electric loco'! And the Acela Express EMUs!
+train fan504 Thanks! And I was close to the door, that's not that far in at all. If there's not a lot of people around and there aren't those bitch station ladies watching everything, you can just walk in, take a few shots, and leave and no one cares really.
I really like seeing Amtrak back to back, by it always seems that they face forward I guess that’s how they come in so majority of their multiple consists are elephant style
omg u saw an original paint scheme of amtrak f40ph but they dont have any engine inside of it other f40ph were sold or gone to amtraks tourist line but others are indeed scraped
3:22 RARE CATCH BRO! 156 Nose to nose with a future heritage unit and between 156 and another, 822 or the other phase 3 heritage unit. On top of that, 404 was there, and you also caught 66 that day! Wow! I would be soooo happy if I had caught those! Liked. Can you check out my newest videos?
It hit a truck while on the Lincoln service and the frame was bent. It got moved to beech grove and has sat there since probably being used as parts source. When the frame gets bent it basically makes a locomotive unrepairable
+QuarterCoasterPounder Railfan They use them on occasion on the mainline when they are short of power, but almost all the time, they use them in the yards. Id like to see them on the mainline regularly myself, but oh well.

Pretty interesting that 90368 stayed in phase 3 for so long
Am I the only one that got excited about two F40phs? Only 8 are still in use.

They need to RE-power them. I miss the iconic sound of the F40PH. That literally WAS Amtrak. :)
I
Well, I like NPCU’s
I see a lot of F40PHs at Rondout, il
Great video! My Dad worked out of Chicago for over 20 years, first as a conductor and then as an engineer. This video brought back a lot of memories!

I think most if not all the Amtrak heritage engines were there at one time I would be flipping out! Wow what a great video
That’s a really detailed model railroad
5:27 Awesome video! I took a trip to Chicago actually! It's pretty cool because That Amtrak helper (#96) was the leader locomotive for our train!
Thanks!
These trains really need a power washing.
Yes some of them do to be honest lol
Miguel Malave same with you
@@Westerstar-cx9vd u think he needs power washing ?

lul 5a and 5b don't exist it's Phases I-VI

2:50 is that 145 behind that P42??
Watch the end of the video and you'll find out
it was
There is another phase 3 f40ph npcu
No, there was only one original phase 3 F40 NPCU when I shot this video
Too bad the Dash 8's seem to be stuck doing yard work instead of being on the main line.
+QuarterCoasterPounder Railfan They use them on occasion on the mainline when they are short of power, but almost all the time, they use them in the yards. Id like to see them on the mainline regularly myself, but oh well.

why arent there a video on the new yorks sunny yards train action ... it
Ive seen a f40ph in chicago thats not a cabbage unit
The engineers don't wave from the trains anymore; not like did back in 1954!
4:16 what service is that??
at 5:25 how old are the wagons he is hauling ?
Depending. Superliner I is from I think early 80’s or late 70’s and Superliner II is from the 90’s
