  • Gregory explains the transformer model and how the magnetization inductance behaves in the circuit.
Circuits using transformer are sometimes hard to understand because of the complex behavior of the magnetization inductance and the leakage inductance.
A trick for measuring the magnetization current in LTSpice is given, demonstrating in depth how the waveforms relate to the transformer behavior in an oscillator circuit.

as an RF engineer, i have been "indoctrinated" about thinking about inductors as stuff that "integrate" the voltage waveform (inductor impedance is jwL). Thanks to your video, i was reminded of the more physical explanation of what it is actually doing! Thanks!

Very usefull video! I ask, so how to calculate the Lm inductance? Cause I don’t get if in your example, the Lm is 200uH (100 by primary and 100 by secondary) or something else.
    Thank you!

This video doesn't state it loudly enough that an ideal transformer works for DC just as well as with AC. Sam Ben-Yaakov's video starts off with that fact and then explains the necessity for AC as something caused by the magnetization inductance of a real transformer.

      that is not DC.
