I was a convert and cut off my family and friends when getting involved. It’s been nearly a decade since going to meetings and being a MS. I have a relationship with my family now, mainly my brothers. I have no friends either. JW destroys a person mentally. This group is about control no matter how small that control is. If a religious group mentions cutting off family and friends (unless it’s your decision as they’re toxic) then stay away.
They claim that it's because Halloween has pagan, "ungodly" origins. In fact, it's to discourage social activities that involve outsiders. This is one of the practices that bolsters the belief that "worldly" people are dangerous, and it insulates Witness children from normal social groups.

Years ago, when we lived in central Texas, a vanload of JWs pulled up in front of our house. We lived on 100 acres and had a quarter mile long driveway. At the time, we were fostering two bottle raised Boer goats, one of which was a wether named Momo. Momo was huge (he could look adults in the face and weighed about 300 lbs), but very curious and friendly. He had free roam of the property. When the JWs pulled up, he came over immediately to investigate. Being bottle raised, he saw humans as food sources. He circled the van and bleated insistently, wanting them to get out and pet/feed him. I watched them out my living room window for a while, but when they didn't leave, I went out on my front porch, coffee cup in hand. The JWs were evidently intimidated by Momo and reluctant to get out of their vehicle. The van was parked with the passenger side closest to my front door, and the woman in the front seat tried to open her door once or twice only to be met by a joyous and hungry giant 🐐 who immediately invaded her space, forcing her to retreat back into the safety of the van. She rolled her window down (mistake; Momo immediately inserted his huge head, looking for some love), making the woman squeal and roll her window most of the way back up. Noticing me, she said "Hello" and asked if the goat was dangerous. Of course, I told her he was very dangerous. She asked if I could put him up, and of course, I told her I could not. Being the persistent sort, she attempted to begin her spiel through a partially open window, around Momo's giant head and deafening bleats of starving indignation. Under such trying conditions, she got straight to the point and asked me if I had time to discuss my soul and our lord and savior? I was enjoying the situation by this time, but compelled to be honest, I told her that I was a born again heathen and unlikely to change my mind. At this point, the folks in the van held a bit of a confab amongst themselves and decided to cut their losses. They wished me a good morning and began turning their van around to leave, but Momo wasn't done with them. He had a habit of "escorting" vehicles down the driveway. He accomplished this by walking slowly, with frequent stops, in front of the vehicle, in hopes that the occupants would reconsider their departure, and instead stay to pet/feed him. We had developed a tactic that allowed us to escape. All that was needed was to roll down the window and provide him with a treat, which he would excitedly accept by coming to the window, away from the front of the car. The next step was to toss the treat a few feet away, then accelerate down the drive while he was otherwise occupied. Of course, the JWs didn't know this trick, so they had to slowly, with many starts and stops, creep down the quarter mile driveway until they could finally escape. Took them st least 20 minutes. All in all, it was a highly entertaining morning.

I was brought up JW. Ostracized by kids, and even teachers, because I couldn't say the Pledge, or go to Birthday parties, etc. My family almost got "Disfellowshipped" (SP? Def?) because I was in a Xmas play. Oh, and my Mom wanted to wear pants and work (Biopesticide Mycology Research Scientist). The JW don't like educated women. I hate the indoctrination. As a 9 year old I had no faculties to defend what I was told to do, or not do.

@alexwood3471 I remember being a young kid before my parents joined jw and hating public school for several events that transpired and being homeless before that because of my parents bad choices, but after my parents became jw, it perpetually felt like I was reliving my worst days in elementary school every day, honestly even now I feel like I am in perpetual detention for doing nothing. This has most definitely caused a developmental delay on my behalf and led to alcohol and drug addiction. Lucky I was pulled out of it and dispute my parents being jw on some level I feel they care for me a lot more than most jw parents, because I was completely loosing it on them blackout drunk for the first time confronting them about what happened to me. Of course they denied it, then apologized, then attempted to regain control over me with every other word being Jehovah. Its so sad because so many principles I agree with but it's so clearly damaging to the mind to not trust anyone constantly and be told you are paranoid or schizophrenic. It makes it feel like I have to be even less honest just so they don't explode on me enraged letting the "worldy" side of themselves out. I shed a tear for the kids in this and in public schools that don't watch over them instead treating them like little bugs. I am constantly gaslit about my memory's and am almost forced to say the exact date and time of the event to even be humored as not lying. You feel constantly interrogated about even the littlest things, and are told the same phrases on repeat because that's exactly what they have to think and say to convince themselves I guess. I wasn't really a bad kid but was always treated like I never tried or cared which made me act out on occasion which made them look at me and judge even more. Under a microscope while realizing it is horrifying every single day I am alive.

You're really ignorant on Scriptural matters. Jesus said "This MEANS my body" and "This MEANS my blood". They were SYMBOLS, he wasn't advocating cannibalism.
I live in South America and these guys/gals are everywhere. What's interesting (often funny) is watching their interactions with the local (devout) Catholics here. Although most will interact with them briefly (out of general courtesy), they mostly consider them a cult and are dismissive of their "strange" interpretations.
Both are cults the Catholic Church has killed something like 500,000 people , tortured alot of them,sick but the JWs will let their own blood die if they need a blood transfusion and also treat them like they are dead
Love you both! Owen holds a special place in my heart as one of the first ex-JW channels I allowed myself to listen to when I first began deconstructing in earnest in 2019. I was disfellowshipped in 2011, but like Owen, the indoctrination had a powerful hold on me for years after.
As a former ex-Witness myself, I always tell people that they are the cult with the best PR in the world because so few people know the atrocities that they have been a part of, let alone the extent of them.
I didn't know much about JWs, only thinking that they were very strict. Now I'm more aware about what's the deal with them, and it's quite worrysome. Some JW family members were kept away from us because their parents told them we were a "bad influence". I'm a non-believer living with a ex JW outside wedlock, so... It beats me way they think that. 😅
I'm in Texas and I know zero JW's so my knowledge of them was the same. I was watching this show called Four Weddings and one of the brides was a JW. She wouldn't go into one of the churches and had some head covering on. I was so confused! She did not seem like the type that would be ok being told what to do so I wonder if she's still one.

J.F. Rutherford was an attorney who sat on a bench as a lower circuit court judge as an interim judge for two weeks. He called himself Judge Rutherford ever after. A charlatan and a marketing whiz, an adulterous philanderer and a drunk, and he invented the religion known as Jehovah's witnesses (miniscule 'w') by convincing the majority of Russell's Bible Students to apostatize from Russell's teachings. The whole early history of the cult is extremely cringe-worthy.
Well done Owen, I bought a copy of your book this evening. I love the work that you do. Thank you Seth for shining light on the JW’s, so that more people know exactly what type of religion/cult this is. As an EXJW myself this means so much to me. So much damage done to me, my siblings, my dad and pretty much anyone who is, was and may be one in the future. Blood transfusions were briefly spoken about in this video, that’s how my mum died…hours after my birth.
ExJw here. Active publisher used to mean at least one hour per month. The ten hour thing was more to do with the national average. If you didnt meet the average you would have a hard time qualifying for congregation "privileges." Meaning serving as an Elder, Ministerial Servant, or be used for other things like running the sound system. And if your hours were too low and meeting attendance (church attendance) wasn't regular enough you'd be soft-shuned. So you wouldn't be officially Disfellowshipped (excommunicated) but other congregation members would probably pull back from you and they'd see you as "Bad Association."

Im glad to see Owen on your podcast! I just bought the book, got to support! On the conversation about homosexuality and the Bible I understand what Owen was trying to explain and had some suggestions on biblical scholars, Owen mentioned Bart Erman (obviously a great resource) but I have heard both Dan Mcclellen and Francesca Stavrakopoulou (Old Testament scholars) really explain these passages well. The idea of “ homosexuality “ like we recognize it today was definitely not something that was recognized 2000+ years ago so you really need context to understand what these passages were trying to say in their original Greek or Hebrew. There have been a lot of translation additions and assumptions that make these passages easier to use as a dog whistle to marginalize gay people. Dan has some great short videos explaining the accepted scholarly consensus on what the authors were talking about and Francesca has a great book called “God” an Anatomy putting the Old Testament God in context for the time and how people would have understood him 2000 years ago.
My stepson and his wife are JW they have 5 girls when one of my step granddaughters turned 17 she left home,she couldn’t take the lifestyle anymore,they can’t find her she moved in with her boyfriend and changed her phone number, i wish she would have confided in me but none of them are very close with us, I’m happy for her to have broken free from this cult,i pray the rest of the girls break free one day, we only visited twice with them and they didn’t seem like happy girls
I feel like it's important to mention that the door knocking's main purpose is NOT recruiting new people, but keeping the members in the cult; they preach that the Others are sinful, cruel, stupid and rude, and only the members are good because they have accepted the faith. So as an enforcing method you force the members to do something that by default gives them bad treatment from the Others. And after the knocking tour you come back to your family/faith for support. It reinforces the idea that everyone else sees and treats you like shit so you better stay with the faithful.
Obviously I don't know if what you say is fully correct, since I have no personal knowledge of JWs, but I think it's an excellent point that poor treatment of proselytizing JWs will likely reinforce their beliefs and a martyr complex.

I actually encountered more JWs in Japan than I ever did in the U.S. It'd be great practice for me to translate those questions into Japanese and hand them to any JWs when I go back.
My 6th grade teacher was JW and needed a blood transfusion and refused to get one and she died. I guess God was on his coffee break and did not save her life
She's a victim of indoctrination. That's a tragedy, and the church should be scorned for their abusive treatment of its members. Public School education should also be mandatory. It would serve to ensure all children have the right to a quality education, and make indoctrination of children by extremists more difficult.
I can't describe fully how wonderful Seth is at interviewing; unlike most interviewers who seem to love the sound of their own voice more than what their guests have to say, Seth asks just the right thing, at the right time, to get the interviewee talking and informing wonderfully.

The best thing I learned from Owen: if you tell them you’re an apostate they will not talk to you. They came to my door a few months ago and hit my ring, I told them thru the ring “I’m an apostate!”……they damn near ran away and haven’t come back since. They were in my court last week and I got no visit. 😂😂😂😂

ExJW here. Left in 1991..there were absolutely no parties or talent shows back then. I guess changing rules are not only generational, but also demographic.😒Too bad the religious trauma stems universally.
I cut a deal with JWs several decades ago. I got tired of them coming to my door so the last time they were offering me the book of Mormon or whatever it is book they go by. Rather than the standard 'not interested' I told them I would take their book and read it if they never came to my door again. It worked!! I lived in that same place for another ten years or more and they kept their word. Being a curious person I began reading but did not get far. Sounded the same as old testament stuff. I figured that was good enough.
In The Netherlands and in London too I only see JWs standing passively and silently next to a stand of leaflets and everyone walks past them without acknowledging them. That really looks like they’ve given up.
Just an FYI, The Anthony Morris announcement of Feb 22 2023, did not state he was no longer a JW; but that he was no longer serving as a member of the governing body. Correction required Owen 😊
Me too. She was the woman I would have married when she was acting "normal", but almost every single night she spent with ne she would get absolutely hammered drunk at her own home because she felt so bad about what we were doing. What were we doing? Kissing and hugging, maybe I got to feel her breasts some times and once or twice she would stimulate herself. We never had sex, and yet she acted like she had every time and it drove me crazy to see whom I loved change from so happy to so sad, every night. Now she has been disfellowshipped and is desperate to return. I hope she wakes up by herself, because I can't do it to her, I haven't tried but I am the one person she still trusts won't judge one way or another.
I'm an ExJW, I was born and raised in and stuck for 46 years! 😣 Out for 5 years now! 🎉 Here's why that's happening... They get a list of all addresses from the local post office and mass mail everyone. It's a letter writing campaign all congregations do as part of their preaching work. You can request them to stop sending you letters to your address. Either call your local kingdom hall and say or write back a clearly written letter stating that you will take legal action if they contact you again either by mail or in the door to door ministry. They actually have a thing called the: Do Not Call List! It's real. 😉 Best wishes!

It seems like Owen has been out so long he's not able to give a detailed picture of what being a JW is really like. I appreciate his intent and aim but there are other ex-JW TH-camrs and advocates that can really break it down for you guys, if you REALLY want to to know.
The door to door ministry work got so useless that eventually you'd be lucky to find 4 people home in a neighborhood. Too many people work in the mornings, and too many other people are aware that if they don't answer the door, JWs will just go away. So thankfully, if you were a kid expected to preach at people, you didn't get chased off of people's properties too often, or told to, "piss off". Although both of those things do happen.
I recall working in the door to door ministry with my dad once, and I woke someone up, so when they came to the door all groggy, I apologized to them. When we were leaving that house, my dad told me never to apologize for doing god's work. I wasn't comfortable with that, so I continued to apologize to people whenever I obviously woke them up.
That's why they have largely shifted their focus to cart witnessing. Now a pioneer can stand around for hours not talking to anyone and get their hours much easier and the publishers can just check a box without even thinking about it.
After trying Catholicism and Hare Krishna, my brother's wife moved to Jehovah's Witness. She kept my brother away from his kids, denigrated him in front of same, and undermined him until he unalived himself. Of the kids, both are facing struggles, one in prison, the other with heavy mental health issues.
Owen is a decent youtuber, but I feel that when it comes to doctrine and explaning things in JW AltWordly is much better at it. He was a MS in the church and he is hella more relatable. He is funny too.
I helped with one kingdom in San Francisco, and Assembly Hall in Fremont. Ground up, three days for Kingdom Hall. It IS, impressive and I was in my early teens, I am 69yrs old, still being used and has had very few repairs..
This video just popped up in my TH-cam feed (probably because it is about JW and I have watched a few other JW videos that showed up - as you know the TH-cam algorithm that chooses what videos to show tends to show videos related to ones you watched). I didn't have time to watch this whole video now but maybe later I will (and some of your other videos). I'm glad to see you are a "thinking" atheist although I think that is redundant. Considering the religion drenched world we live in you HAVE to think to be an atheist. It is the religionists who blindly believe whatever they are told by their leaders who do not think. Incidentally my brother Michael was brainwashed into becoming a JW many years ago although I'm not sure how seriously he takes it now; I haven't been in touch with him for a while. I do know he mellowed a bit. Many years ago when there was a death in Michael's first wife's family him and his wife refused to go to the funeral because it was in a Catholic church. But when my father died years later Michael did attend the funeral even though it was in a Catholic church (he was separated from his first wife by then).

Years ago, when we lived in central Texas, a vanload of JWs pulled up in front of our house. We lived on 100 acres and had a quarter mile long driveway. At the time, we were fostering two bottle raised Boer goats, one of which was a wether named Momo. Momo was huge (he could look adults in the face and weighed about 300 lbs), but very curious and friendly. He had free roam of the property.
When the JWs pulled up, he came over immediately to investigate. Being bottle raised, he saw humans as food sources. He circled the van and bleated insistently, wanting them to get out and pet/feed him.
I watched them out my living room window for a while, but when they didn't leave, I went out on my front porch, coffee cup in hand.
The JWs were evidently intimidated by Momo and reluctant to get out of their vehicle. The van was parked with the passenger side closest to my front door, and the woman in the front seat tried to open her door once or twice only to be met by a joyous and hungry giant 🐐 who immediately invaded her space, forcing her to retreat back into the safety of the van.
She rolled her window down (mistake; Momo immediately inserted his huge head, looking for some love), making the woman squeal and roll her window most of the way back up.
Noticing me, she said "Hello" and asked if the goat was dangerous. Of course, I told her he was very dangerous. She asked if I could put him up, and of course, I told her I could not.
Being the persistent sort, she attempted to begin her spiel through a partially open window, around Momo's giant head and deafening bleats of starving indignation.
Under such trying conditions, she got straight to the point and asked me if I had time to discuss my soul and our lord and savior?
I was enjoying the situation by this time, but compelled to be honest, I told her that I was a born again heathen and unlikely to change my mind.
At this point, the folks in the van held a bit of a confab amongst themselves and decided to cut their losses.
They wished me a good morning and began turning their van around to leave, but Momo wasn't done with them. He had a habit of "escorting" vehicles down the driveway. He accomplished this by walking slowly, with frequent stops, in front of the vehicle, in hopes that the occupants would reconsider their departure, and instead stay to pet/feed him.
We had developed a tactic that allowed us to escape. All that was needed was to roll down the window and provide him with a treat, which he would excitedly accept by coming to the window, away from the front of the car. The next step was to toss the treat a few feet away, then accelerate down the drive while he was otherwise occupied.
Of course, the JWs didn't know this trick, so they had to slowly, with many starts and stops, creep down the quarter mile driveway until they could finally escape. Took them st least 20 minutes.
All in all, it was a highly entertaining morning.

I was brought up JW. Ostracized by kids, and even teachers, because I couldn't say the Pledge, or go to Birthday parties, etc. My family almost got "Disfellowshipped" (SP? Def?) because I was in a Xmas play. Oh, and my Mom wanted to wear pants and work (Biopesticide Mycology Research Scientist). The JW don't like educated women.
I hate the indoctrination. As a 9 year old I had no faculties to defend what I was told to do, or not do.

@alexwood3471 I remember being a young kid before my parents joined jw and hating public school for several events that transpired and being homeless before that because of my parents bad choices, but after my parents became jw, it perpetually felt like I was reliving my worst days in elementary school every day, honestly even now I feel like I am in perpetual detention for doing nothing. This has most definitely caused a developmental delay on my behalf and led to alcohol and drug addiction. Lucky I was pulled out of it and dispute my parents being jw on some level I feel they care for me a lot more than most jw parents, because I was completely loosing it on them blackout drunk for the first time confronting them about what happened to me. Of course they denied it, then apologized, then attempted to regain control over me with every other word being Jehovah. Its so sad because so many principles I agree with but it's so clearly damaging to the mind to not trust anyone constantly and be told you are paranoid or schizophrenic. It makes it feel like I have to be even less honest just so they don't explode on me enraged letting the "worldy" side of themselves out. I shed a tear for the kids in this and in public schools that don't watch over them instead treating them like little bugs. I am constantly gaslit about my memory's and am almost forced to say the exact date and time of the event to even be humored as not lying. You feel constantly interrogated about even the littlest things, and are told the same phrases on repeat because that's exactly what they have to think and say to convince themselves I guess. I wasn't really a bad kid but was always treated like I never tried or cared which made me act out on occasion which made them look at me and judge even more. Under a microscope while realizing it is horrifying every single day I am alive.

I live in South America and these guys/gals are everywhere. What's interesting (often funny) is watching their interactions with the local (devout) Catholics here. ExJw here. Active publisher used to mean at least one hour per month. The ten hour thing was more to do with the national average. If you didnt meet the average you would have a hard time qualifying for congregation "privileges." Meaning serving as an Elder, Ministerial Servant, or be used for other things like running the sound system. And if your hours were too low and meeting attendance (church attendance) wasn't regular enough you'd be soft-shuned. So you wouldn't be officially Disfellowshipped (excommunicated) but other congregation members would probably pull back from you and they'd see you as "Bad Association."

On the conversation about homosexuality and the Bible I understand what Owen was trying to explain and had some suggestions on biblical scholars, Owen mentioned Bart Erman (obviously a great resource) but I have heard both Dan Mcclellen and
Francesca Stavrakopoulou (Old Testament scholars) really explain these passages well. The idea of “ homosexuality “ like we recognize it today was definitely not something that was recognized 2000+ years ago so you really need context to understand what these passages were trying to say in their original Greek or Hebrew. There have been a lot of translation additions and assumptions that make these passages easier to use as a dog whistle to marginalize gay people. Dan has some great short videos explaining the accepted scholarly consensus on what the authors were talking about and Francesca has a great book called “God” an Anatomy putting the Old Testament God in context for the time and how people would have understood him 2000 years ago.
My stepson and his wife are JW they have 5 girls when one of my step granddaughters turned 17 she left home,she couldn’t take the lifestyle anymore,they can’t find her she moved in with her boyfriend and changed her phone number, i wish she would have confided in me but none of them are very close with us, I’m happy for her to have broken free from this cult,i pray the rest of the girls break free one day, we only visited twice with them and they didn’t seem like happy girls

I feel like it's important to mention that the door knocking's main purpose is NOT recruiting new people, but keeping the members in the cult; they preach that the Others are sinful, cruel, stupid and rude, and only the members are good because they have accepted the faith. So as an enforcing method you force the members to do something that by default gives them bad treatment from the Others. And after the knocking tour you come back to your family/faith for support. It reinforces the idea that everyone else sees and treats you like shit so you better stay with the faithful.
Obviously I don't know if what you say is fully correct, since I have no personal knowledge of JWs, but I think it's an excellent point that poor treatment of proselytizing JWs will likely reinforce their beliefs and a martyr complex.

She's a victim of indoctrination. That's a tragedy, and the church should be scorned for their abusive treatment of its members. Public School education should also be mandatory. It would serve to ensure all children have the right to a quality education, and make indoctrination of children by extremists more difficult.

Been listening to Owen for a while now, he seems to be very intellectually honest in his analysis, that is if my opinion means squat.
The best thing I learned from Owen: if you tell them you’re an apostate they will not talk to you. They came to my door a few months ago and hit my ring, I told them thru the ring “I’m an apostate!”……they damn near ran away and haven’t come back since. They were in my court last week and I got no visit. 😂😂😂😂
The head covering thing with jws is hilarious. On different occasions I saw women put a napkin or a single tissue atop their head, if hat wasn't available 😂

ExJW here. Left in 1991..there were absolutely no parties or talent shows back then. I guess changing rules are not only generational, but also demographic.😒Too bad the religious trauma stems universally.
I was thinking the same thing. Parties, talent shows...wth is he taking about? I never saw anything like that in my 20ish years in.

I cut a deal with JWs several decades ago. I got tired of them coming to my door so the last time they were offering me the book of Mormon or whatever it is book they go by. Rather than the standard 'not interested' I told them I would take their book and read it if they never came to my door again. It worked!! I lived in that same place for another ten years or more and they kept their word. Being a curious person I began reading but did not get far. Sounded the same as old testament stuff. I figured that was good enough.
In The Netherlands and in London too I only see JWs standing passively and silently next to a stand of leaflets and everyone walks past them without acknowledging them. That really looks like they’ve given up.
Just an FYI, The Anthony Morris announcement of Feb 22 2023, did not state he was no longer a JW; but that he was no longer serving as a member of the governing body. Correction required Owen 😊

Me too. She was the woman I would have married when she was acting "normal", but almost every single night she spent with ne she would get absolutely hammered drunk at her own home because she felt so bad about what we were doing. What were we doing? Kissing and hugging, maybe I got to feel her breasts some times and once or twice she would stimulate herself. We never had sex, and yet she acted like she had every time and it drove me crazy to see whom I loved change from so happy to so sad, every night. Now she has been disfellowshipped and is desperate to return. I hope she wakes up by herself, because I can't do it to her, I haven't tried but I am the one person she still trusts won't judge one way or another.
Some how the Jehovah Witnesses have my address and have mailed some of their pamphlets to save my soul. How thoughtful 😊
I'm an ExJW, I was born and raised in and stuck for 46 years! 😣 Out for 5 years now! 🎉 Here's why that's happening... They get a list of all addresses from the local post office and mass mail everyone. It's a letter writing campaign all congregations do as part of their preaching work. You can request them to stop sending you letters to your address. Either call your local kingdom hall and say or write back a clearly written letter stating that you will take legal action if they contact you again either by mail or in the door to door ministry. They actually have a thing called the: Do Not Call List! It's real. 😉 Best wishes!

It seems like Owen has been out so long he's not able to give a detailed picture of what being a JW is really like. I appreciate his intent and aim but there are other ex-JW TH-camrs and advocates that can really break it down for you guys, if you REALLY want to to know.

The door to door ministry work got so useless that eventually you'd be lucky to find 4 people home in a neighborhood.
Too many people work in the mornings, and too many other people are aware that if they don't answer the door, JWs will just go away. So thankfully, if you were a kid expected to preach at people, you didn't get chased off of people's properties too often, or told to, "piss off".
Although both of those things do happen.
I recall working in the door to door ministry with my dad once, and I woke someone up, so when they came to the door all groggy, I apologized to them.
When we were leaving that house, my dad told me never to apologize for doing god's work.
I wasn't comfortable with that, so I continued to apologize to people whenever I obviously woke them up.
That's why they have largely shifted their focus to cart witnessing. Now a pioneer can stand around for hours not talking to anyone and get their hours much easier and the publishers can just check a box without even thinking about it.
After trying Catholicism and Hare Krishna, my brother's wife moved to Jehovah's Witness. She kept my brother away from his kids, denigrated him in front of same, and undermined him until he unalived himself. Of the kids, both are facing struggles, one in prison, the other with heavy mental health issues.

Owen is a decent youtuber, but I feel that when it comes to doctrine and explaning things in JW AltWordly is much better at it. He was a MS in the church and he is hella more relatable. He is funny too.

I helped with one kingdom in San Francisco, and Assembly Hall in Fremont.
Ground up, three days for Kingdom Hall. It IS, impressive and I was in my early teens, I am 69yrs old, still being used and has had very few repairs..
This video just popped up in my TH-cam feed (probably because it is about JW and I have watched a few other JW videos that showed up - as you know the TH-cam algorithm that chooses what videos to show tends to show videos related to ones you watched). I didn't have time to watch this whole video now but maybe later I will (and some of your other videos). I'm glad to see you are a "thinking" atheist although I think that is redundant. Considering the religion drenched world we live in you HAVE to think to be an atheist. It is the religionists who blindly believe whatever they are told by their leaders who do not think. Incidentally my brother Michael was brainwashed into becoming a JW many years ago although I'm not sure how seriously he takes it now; I haven't been in touch with him for a while. I do know he mellowed a bit. Many years ago when there was a death in Michael's first wife's family him and his wife refused to go to the funeral because it was in a Catholic church. But when my father died years later Michael did attend the funeral even though it was in a Catholic church (he was separated from his first wife by then).

37:00 he was removed from the Governing Body, not from JWs in general. We actually DO know what happened to him, the organization bought him a house in North Carolina 2 weeks after he was removed from the GB. He lives there (still driving around in the same 'company car' he used to drive to the liquor store in Ramsey, New Jersey to buy Macallan) and according to anecdotal reports, attends a local congregation.

I was watching some other video by some political commentator and he mentioned that as an older teen (in the 80's, he was told the band name, KISS, stood for 'Knights In Satan's Service'... My husband told me the same thing 😄
