Excellent account of the political and private life of Lady Margaret. Made me want to get the book. I first learned of Lady Margaret from The White Queen and followed the storyline with great interest . Well done for this podcast, most welcome .
Margaret was first married to Suffolk's son, John de la Pole. The wedding may have been held between 28 January and 7 February 1444, when she was perhaps a year old but certainly no more than three.
I think it's interesting that you think she prevented herself from getting pregnant again. I'm interested on how you think she prevented herself from getting pregnant. They did not have birth control back then and marriages had to be consummated for it to be considered a valid marriage. Many historians and physicians of that time speculated that her body received too much damage from having a baby so young. Giving birth to Henry VII almost killed her.
i am interested to know how Elizabeth of York felt about Edward Plantagenet being put into the Tower of London. Did she do anything to try to get him released?
Thanks for the brilliant podcast. I really enjoyed it. Could you please tell me who was Margaret Bourfort first husband? I had thought it was Edmund Tudor.
I always thought Margaret was an interesting person...but then I learned how she treated Elizabeth of York. How one behaves in victory shines a bright light upon the content of one's character...and Margaret does not look good in that spotlight. Basically the MIL from hell.
Margaret never recognised the marriage to de la Pole; in her will, made in 1472, Margaret refers to Edmund Tudor as her first husband. Under canon law, Margaret was not bound by her first marriage contract as she was entered into the marriage before reaching the age of twelve. Which makes sense as she was "married" to de la Pole at the age of 3 and it was annulled before she was 6 years old. That's where this "expert" lost me.
Re Margaret signing herself as Margaret R, had the society not been paternalistic Margaret had the claim to the throne before her son. Likewise, Elizabeth of York should have been Queen after her brothers

Margaret Beaufort is my one of my favorite historical figures
I would be interesting too if you make Queen Isabella I of Castile's podcast
Also Margaret of Anjou despite she's on the losing side in the end
Great podcast! I’m waiting patiently for this wonderful book to come out on audible! 😊💜
