The real horror is how awfully this diner is managed! The restroom is a mess despite employees having the time to clean up, a cheeseburger is literally nothing more than a slice of cheese on a burger patty with no sauce or NOTHING, 3/10 establishment.
There was another game with an even messier restroom--by a wide margin. It is in a hospital, and one of the patients crawls up to you and asks you to help him clean up the mess that he just made in the restroom. Utterly *disgusting!*
Don't forget he used his dirty bare hands without any gloves or washing it with soap. The same hands he touched door handles to the restroom. (Managers at my local fastfood chain made employes at the kitchen wash their hands every time they touched their nose, lmao)
THIS is how you make a slow burn. This is how you get people interested in more. I am VERY interested to see how this progresses. Really tired of all the "PS1" level horrors that dont even try to make the graphics look unique.
@@troywright359 If your just making a cheap copy called Jomeo and Ruliette and it shows you put about as much effort into the game as you are original, going for cheap level graphics is an easy go to. The "end of the world" atmosphere feels too on the nose, which makes me believe it's only a metaphor for what's actually happening with the main characters. Cliff/Nora either gets injured or dies, presumably by the drunk guy, and staying in the diner feels like avoiding reality more than anything. There's obviously more than that, and I think this is fine for a demo. I will be surprised if messing up order will be part of changing the narrative, but probably it's just there to fill the game because, without it, it might as well be a basic visual novel instead.
The game feels like a practice exercise for voice actors of very varying quality. The actor for Cliff is probably the most solid, followed by the rude guest. The old man is quite decent. The actress for Nora is a bit wooden, and comes off flat, sounding less like she's speaking and more like she's reading from a script. The actress for Mandy seems to be emulating an accent from NYC during the 1990s, and is painfully unconvincing. As for the plot, I thought it would be more interesting, but it seems to just be a psychodrama about remembering the day of a murder. While it could be interesting, it seems to be stretching the idea of "destroying one's world" by making one murder into a world ending event.
The police officer around @11:20 is literally text-to-speech, lol. Yeah. I was deeply interested by the trailer, but this voice acting just about already killed it for me.
Seems like you play as the Cliff who was the murder victim, and this is him in limbo, so the world ending event, is that his world did already ended, and this is him trying to pass out to the other side "living" his last day and trying to cut off all attachments
Did you forgot rest of the world doesn't understand these intricacies, this is not an American only game dude. Devs know that so it's not all that important

My assumption is that everyone in the diner and who will ever come to the diner are already dead, and the diner is just purgatory. Not sure what the disaster is suppose to represent, could be Hell coming to fetch them. I also rly like the high quality of everything else besides the art style/graphics
ABG: *walks into dirty ass bathroom* *leaves without washing his hands* *handles burgers and plates (again without using water) with said hands for everybody to see*
The premise of this game is so cool and interesting. Sure the voice acting is stilted and janky and it's not breaking any graphical boundaries. But there's more than enough here to gauge my interest. Plus the themes regarding trauma look to be really potent.
I am *beyond* lost. What the hell is happening? It looks fun, but I have no idea what was going on. I know it's a mystery, but are you seeing things? Are people dead? Why did you randomly switch to Nora? Why were your eyes bleeding like that? Are you having a psychotic break? Where did the other people come from!?
I'm a little confused by the narrative mechanics here. It's good for teasers not to reveal everything sure, but if it's too opaque then it doesn't entice me to want to figure things out.
I just love how well-polished this game, having a full body animations and whatnot. It really looks an old triple A game. Love the voice acting too. Whoever made this, made this out of pure dedication and love
This is much more surreal than the reveal trailer which made it feel more like a straightforward "diner at the end of the world" (pun intended), story but when I finished playing the demo a few minutes ago (I'm gonna play it again since there's 2 endings), it threw me off (in a good way though). Like I said in another comment, I wonder if this is meant to be a nightmare prologue or maybe it's condensing the story in a few minutes and skipping through time. I don't know, but I'm even more hooked and I've been waiting to play this since earlier this year.
I think this was pretty interesting and did the job of a good demo which is to make you interested in the rest of the game. Mission accomplished - I am curious about the rest of the game! It almost seemed like Cliff/Nora are trapped in a situation where their reality is being manipulated. Maybe by aliens? It was very intriguing and I liked the cliffhanger at the end. I don't think the voice acting is that bad either. It seemed very typical of an indie game and I've heard worse in AAA games lol. I did think that Hank was rude to poor Mandy! I would absolutely watch a play-thru of the full game 🙂even though some of the textures in that bathroom gave me the ick...someone please clean up in there.
Hope the full game explains wtf is going on because I have *no* idea. Also the script needs re-writing and the dialogue re-recording. Some of the dialogue sounds natural and some of it absolutely does not (and I don't mean the generated voices)
The voice acting is all over the place, right down to the police officer being literal text-to-speech. Cliff might be the only truly decent attempt, and the "moral choices" seem to turn your character into a manipulative prick with a bleeding eye just because you politely scold a customer? I hope that's all taken out of context for the sake of a tantalizing teaser.
Here’s what I can make of it: Cliff and Nora may be angels of death and have made a pact to help souls pass on to the afterlife during the apocalypse. Their diner is purgatory and they must have each patron make peace. You can play as either Nora or Cliff who wants to leave and pass on their own .
That was incredible. It actually felt like organic dialogue for once in a game. They really phoned it in though with the officer in the storage however, what with that AI voice, yuck. Other than that, amazing stuff. Can't wait for the full game.
What should've been another day at a roadside diner becomes a nightmare when a potential world ending disaster is spotted outside. While everyone is dealing with their own problems and the world is falling apart, Nora/Cliff is trying to keep things together. Question is: When the world is falling apart, is holding onto your guilt worth dying for?
Okay, I have to give my criticisms here. Aside from the issue with voices and dialogue, I think my concern with the demo is the lack of build-up and context. For a psychological horror, simply saying how bad things are getting and the forensics team isn't enough to imply suspense or what is happening. I understand the developers are trying to keep things under wrap until the full game release, but I just find it really unsatisfying and confused as hell. On a positive note though, the environmental graphics and atmosphere are great.
I think it says something about me when I'm pretty sure I recognize the VA for the aspiring actress, and knowing one of our old farmer man's lines is pretty on the money. 😅
