Definitely the Sling High Wing over the RV15, plus the Sling HW is commercially available and has great performance numbers, not to mention a more modern look to it.

Kind of interesting that the #1 choice wasn't test flown, but chosen based on appearance and promises.

The Diamond DA50 would be a Cirrus killer if it were not 40% more expensive and a retractable destroying its chances. Cirrus still owns the 180kt cruise piston single market while companies keep missing the target. The RV15 pales compared to the Rans Outbound. The Rans already comes in a tricycle gear config and has two engine choices the Rotax 915is and the Titan both better than the lame lycoming offered in the RV15. Another miss on your first choice AOPA.

2.5 million? I just can't see howTecnam can make enough money selling a few of these high wing utility twin to justify the effort. I could get a Twin Otter for a small fraction of that. Or a Cessna Caravan, with better climb performance than the Tecnam and more useful load.

What we look “forward to” in 2023 is yet another season (since day one of GA) of aircraft affordable by a few thousand people, while others fly worn out older hardware or parachutes or they have crappy lifestyles and pour the remainder into an old aircraft. Or they’re one of the business owners taking all kinds of tax dodges to gain advantage. Always been a tragedy to call it “general aviation”, nothing general about it, it’s luxury/privilege aviation, quite a shame.

"Top 5 coolest" doesn't make sense. It's just "5 coolest." When you have a word ending in "est" in the title, you don't put "top" in there also. Otherwise... yeah, pretty cool!

  • @DanFrederiksen

The Tecnam is unpressurized yet costs jet money. TBM is a single prop colonial noise maker yet costs more than the suave Embraer Phenom 100 twin jet. Diamond's shift to diesel is interesting but DA50 weighs close to 1.6 ton, the same as a pressurized Phenom 100 twin jet and costs 1.2million. Massive failure on two fronts. The Kodiak speed is speced at 12000feet in an unpressurized plane so are they aiming for hypoxia as standard? RV15 is yet another outback rivet bird in a design that could be 100 years old. The Taylor Cub is nearly 100 years. And it's a kit build with all the burden that comes with that. Where is the ambition, the innovation, that actually amounts to something. Not just worse and more expensive.
Lancair IV-P is one man's design 30 years ago and no commercial product comes close to its performance. What is that but abject failure of the entire industry. And it could be done much better today.

Are you comparing similar planes with similar missions?
The Tecnam holds 9 passengers, the Phenom holds 5.
The Tecnam would work for short passenger flights, ferrying stuff or parachuting.
The TBM or Phenom are totally different planes for much different missions.
